A thin resonant single diaphragm with an aperture in the form of a double C-shaped contour is considered. An electrodynamic analysis of this type of diaphragm is carried out. The dependences of the frequency response on the geometric dimensions of the aperture are studied. The possibility of creating band-pass filters on the WR137 waveguide is shown. A computer model of a three-section and five-section band-pass filter is developed. The design of the filters was carried out on a Duroid 5880 substrate. The proposed diaphragm topology makes it possible to obtain higher Q-factors of the resonators and a minimum level of losses in the passband, in comparison with the classical rectangular resonant window.

This work presents a novel leaky-wave antenna (LWA), conceived from the insertion of a dipole-based frequency selective surface (FSS) into a top-open rectangular waveguide. It is explained how the printed circuit has the ability to control the radiation rate of the leaky modes that propagate through this structure at a certain frequency. This attribute makes possible the tapering of the radiation diagram of the LWA. In particular, it is possible to reduce the sidelobes level. This feature will be illustrated by performing a cosine tapered design. Good agreement is observed when comparing the results obtained from leaky-mode theory with full-wave simulations. Finally, the limitations of this tapering procedure will also be presented.

Horn antennas play a very important role in microwave engineering. To meet different kinds of need, several types of horn including conical, pyramidal, ridge-loaded, corrugated horns, etc. have been developed and studied extensively. These horns can be classified as pure mode or multi-mode horns due to the field distribution (waveguide mode) on the apertures. In this paper, a new grooved type of horn with a cross-section similar to a groove guide is presented. Initial work shows that such horns have the advantages of more flexible design and pure mode operation and hence excitation is easy. Various radiation patterns can be obtained by choosing appropriate cross-section shape and size.

This paper reports and demonstrates for the first time a surface mountable horn antenna and also a transition from substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) to standard rectangular waveguide for microwave and millimeter-wave system applications. The proposed horn antenna and the transition can be installed or surface-mounted on top of the metal housing of a planar SIW circuitry as easy as a "cap". The transition is designed as a waveguide quarter-wave stepped impedance transformer. Simulation and measurement results over K-band are given in this paper.

In this work, an quasi-omnidirectionally radiating, compact, folded patch antenna in a rectangular waveguide shape is demonstrated, where the folded ground plane of the patch antenna creates an EMI protected enclosed space and it can be used for electronic circuit implementation with little EMI from the patch antenna. An analysis on the EMI of a rectangular structure in a high speed digital system is available [6]. In order to research the influence of propagation character of electromagnetic wave caused by the different positions transmitter and dielectric constant in mine tunnel, the approximate solutions of the electomagnetic attenuation character are analyzed which polarized in different ways based on the rectangular tunnel transmission mode. The propagation characters of different position transmitter in rectangular mine tunnels are simulated. Base on the propagation mode of rectangular tunnels, the influences of dielectric constant between side walls and roof-floor of rectangular tunnels on attenuation rate of electromagnetic wave propagation in different polarization modes were studied. When dielectric constant of side walls and roof-floor is equal, attenuation of vertical polarization mode is markedly higher than that of horizontal polarization mode, and with the decreasing of the dielectric constant the attenuation rate of two mode is closing; When the transmitter is more close to the wall of the mine tunnel, the mode of propagation is more complex and the attenuation ratio is more serious, whereas in the middle of the mine tunnel, the attenuation rate of radio is the least. The solution above provides a theoretic basis to the wireless succor communication technique in mine tunnel.

A measuring technique is described that can be used to determine qualitatively and quantitatively all higher order modes propagating in a straight, lossless, rectangular waveguide. Calibrated electric probes are used to sample the electric field strengths at various locations on the waveguide walls. These locations are confined to specified transverse cross-sections. Results of measurements of second and third harmonic power generated by a high power, S-band radar transmitter are friefly discussed.

In this paper, the very accurate and efficient modal analysis of arbitrarily shaped waveguides, whose cross-section is defined by a combination of straight, circular and/or elliptical arcs, is solved. An extension of the well-known boundary integral-resonant mode expansion (BI-RME) method is proposed. Successful comparisons with available numerical and experimental data fully demonstrates the validity of the improved BI-RME method proposed.
