In this paper, we designed and fabricated the broadband probe with double ridged waveguide for broadband near-field measurements. An exponential taper ridge in the rectangular waveguide and novel waveguide transition were implemented for wideband impedance matching and compression of the higher modes. It has wideband characteristics and its measured impedance bandwidth ratio is approximately 123%(4.17:1) from 12.0 GHz to 50 GHz for SWR<3.0. And the peak radiation gain is 5.7~14.3 dBi. The performance of this probe is verified by the measured results and is in good agreement with the simulated results. It is possible that our designed broadband probe is applied to broadband near-field measurement under 50 GHz.

The excitation of hybrid modes by discontinuities in rectangular waveguide can often be decomposed into separate LSE/LSM or TE/TM mechanisms, so that each component can be analysed with the most suitable modal base. Correct interfacing, however, is required. We report the scattering matrices representing all the possible transformations of modal bases in rectangular waveguide. Such matrices provide an useful tool to simulate complex circuits made up of components strongly interacting, without requiring the use of a common modal base for the characterization of each element. Since the transformation matrices can easily include pieces of transmission lines, their use does not require any additional computation effort.

In this paper the open-ended dielectrically filled waveguide as the original individual radiator of the wideband antenna array with the beam steering plusmn50 0 is presented. Both the electric and magnetic dipoles are analyzed as the candidates of the aforementioned waveguide exciter. The characteristics of the optimized individual radiator included in the antenna array consisting of sixteen elements are analyzed. This antenna array guarantees beam steering plusmn50 0 and the side lobes level less than -10 dB. The experimental radiation patterns and S 11 parameters are discussed.

This paper describes the design and performance of balanced mixers for use in the frequency ranges 27 to 40 GHz and 60 to 90 GHz. The transmission medium used is integrated finline which is potentially cheap to produce and has lower loss than microstrip while remaining compatible with beam lead diodes. The performance obtained is comparable with that obtained using conventional techniques but the low cost circuit technology is suitable for mass production.

In this paper, using the Broadband Green's function with low wavenumber extraction (BBGFL) method, we develop the broadband Green's function for an arbitrary-shaped waveguide with two different dielectrics inside. We use the modes of an arbitrary-shaped waveguide to compute the broadband response of an arbitrary-shaped waveguide using the BBGFL method. In addition, we further apply the higher order low wavenumber extraction technique to accelerate the convergence of modal summations. The accuracy of BBGFL results are verified by comparing with results from the Method of Moment (MoM) and HFSS.

To verify the defect on the material may be required for industrial application, such as void and pore detections. In our research, the scanning near-field millimeter-wave microscopy is used to detect the void and pore. In experiment, the voids are formed inside the Teflon sample with various in-depths from 0.5 mm to 10 mm. Each void is 1 mm-dia and 20 mm-length. The air void and water-filled void are recognized at in- depth of 2 mm. Another, the pores are on the surface of the TiO 2 sheet with thickness of 2.4 mm. The 0.8 mm-depth pore is clearly recognized. The in-depth capability of void and pore detections has been proposed.

Air-filled waveguide integrated in Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) has advantages of low loss and high efficiency compared with the SIW using dielectric substrate-filled waveguide and is suitable for the design of sub-millimeter wave and terahertz circuits and components. In this paper, a 140 GHz low-loss integrated air-filled waveguide is designed in LTCC, and to feed the integrated air-filled waveguide, a wideband transition from metal rectangular waveguide to LTCC air-filled waveguide is presented using a stage impedance matching structure based on the LTCC manufacture process technology. Moreover, a horn antenna integrated in LTCC is designed at 140-GHz band and fed by the low-loss integrated air-filled waveguide. To obtain higher gain, a dielectric loaded SIW stage horn antenna is designed. The transition and antenna show good performance and demonstrate the application potential over the sub-millimeter wave and terahertz frequencies of integrated air-filled waveguide in LTCC.

A novel offset Metamaterial-based complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) and its characteristic behavior on the narrow wall of a rectangular waveguide is considered, for the advancement and implementation of high-power microwave (HPM) antennas, operable at L-Band along with other potential frequencies. The architecture improves the properties of traditional slots and split ring resonators (SRRs) mounted on the narrow wall of selected waveguides (radius= 24mm, thickness=3.5mm, chord=0.8., offset=2.7mm)., with their designated frequency regimes. The inter-spacing and offset tuning of the array elements have core effects on mechanical strength, coupling, phase, radiation efficiency, as well negative index properties. The design supports high tunability for adaptation on other architectures, as well as decent phase consistency with THz prospects.

The transmission and reflection performance of multiple thick diaphragms inside a rectangular waveguide is vastly different from a single diaphragm of comparable size due to the conducted EMI between the diaphragms. The characterisation of such a structure is carried out by full wave analysis with the help of method of moments. It is shown that diaphragms separated longitudinally by dielectric material can behave as a RF switch. The theoretical finding is compared with experimental measurements. Means of shifting the switching frequency of the switch is also indicated.
