Infrastructure systems, especially in hazard-prone regions, may face multiple occurrences of multiple types of hazards during their lifetime. The type and intensity of the hazards and impacts on systems can vary from one event to another. An important factor that has yet to be properly addressed in natural hazard loss estimation models is the impact of damage induced by various types of prior events on the increased vulnerability of systems against various types of potential future hazards. This paper presents a new hazard lifecycle cost analysis framework that addresses this gap and accounts for effects of incomplete repairs of damage conditions induced by prior natural hazards on the future hazard performance of systems. Considering that the space of scenarios for multi-hazard occurrences and the impacts over the lifetime of infrastructure systems is significantly large, a recursive algorithm is proposed to efficiently determine the lifecycle cost of the system. This framework is applied to a realistic bridge exposed to flood and earthquake hazards to determine the optimal retrofit plan that reduces the overall lifecycle cost of the bridge. Results show the significance of considering different damage types induced by multiple types of hazards and repair time variations for lifecycle cost analysis of infrastructure systems.

This paper is concerned with the polynomial filtering problem for a class of nonlinear systems with quantisations and missing measurements. The nonlinear functions are approximated with polynomials of a chosen degree and the approximation errors are described as low-order polynomial terms with norm-bounded coefficients. The transmitted outputs are quantised by a logarithmic quantiser and are also subject to randomly missing measurements governed by a Bernoulli distributed sequence taking values on 0 or 1. Dedicated efforts are made to derive an upper bound of the filtering error covariance in the simultaneous presence of the polynomial approximation errors, the quantisations as well as the missing measurements at each time instant. Such an upper bound is then minimised through designing a suitable filter gain by solving a set of matrix equations. The filter design algorithm is recursive and therefore applicable for online computation. An illustrative example is exploited to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

A birth process model proposed by Dixon and Robinson has been widely used in football spread betting market. However, multiple goals in a minute are permitted in the model, which does not conform to historical record. Moreover, it is difficult to calculate the outcome probability of the process accurately. The article presents a discrete-time and finite-state Markov chain model for real-time forecast of football matches and a recursive algorithm is derived to calculate the outcome probability accurately. The empirical study shows that the proposed model outperforms the models of Dixon and Robinson and Dixon and Coles.

In this paper, firstly, based on new recursive algorithms of non-tensor-product-typed bivariate divided differences, scattered data interpolation schemes are constructed in the cases of odd and even interpolating nodes, respectively. Moreover, the corresponding error estimation is worked out, and equivalent formulae are obtained between bivariate high order non-tensor-product-typed divided differences and high-order partial derivatives. Furthermore, the operation count for the addition/subtractions, multiplication, and divisions approximates O(n(2)) in the computation of the interpolating polynomials presented, while the operation count approximates O(n(3)) in the case of radial basis functions for sufficiently large n. Finally, several numerical examples show that it is valid for the recursive interpolating polynomial schemes, and these interpolating polynomials change as the order of the interpolating nodes, although the node collection is the same. The finite-time convergence problem of an nth nonlinear system with unmatched disturbance is primarily studied in this paper. During the recursive procedure, a new finite-timecontroller is designed and proven by adding a sign function and a power integrator. Meanwhile, a C1 positive definite and proper Lyapunov function, which satisfies the finite-timeLyapunov stability law, is designed. Finally, the designed finite-time controller is appliedto some examples and an application of integrated guidance and control system to testand verify its advantage and practicability.

The paper deals with Kalman's filtering for the rotational speed time history of rotors, which is determined by the use of a tacho-signal that is composed of the string of pulses each of them is generated at least once per the complete rotor revolution. The accuracy of the estimation of the time interval length corresponding to the one complete revolution depends on the number of samples which corresponds to the mentioned time interval. The reciprocal value of the length of this interval determines the rotation frequency. If the rotation speed is multiply increased, the measurement error increases considerably as well. The Kalman filter is a suitable means for smoothing the rotational speed measurement by reducing the measurement error.
