In this paper we analysis the performance of rife algorithm and point out that the performance is poor when the true frequency is much close to quantized frequency of FFT. Aiming at this problem, an improved rife algorithm is presented. This algorithm can make the signal frequency always located in the center between the two neighboring discrete frequencies by using zoom FFT technique. Then, in order to eliminate the impact of noise for the rife algorithm, this paper propose to correct the improved rife algorithm by using the window function for the signal. Simulation result showed that the improved algorithm had high estimation accuracy, strong anti-noise performance and good stability.

A Modified rife algorithm for Off-Grid DOA Estimation Based on Sparse Representations

In this paper we address the problem of off-grid direction of arrival (DOA) estimation based on sparse representations in the situation of multiple measurement vectors (MMV). A novel sparse DOA estimation method which changes MMV problem to SMV is proposed. This method uses sparse representations based on weighted eigenvectors (SRBWEV) to deal with the MMV problem. MMV problem can be changed to single measurement vector (SMV) problem by using the linear combination of eigenvectors of array covariance matrix in signal subspace as a new SMV for sparse solution calculation. So the complexity of this proposed algorithm is smaller than other DOA estimation algorithms of MMV. Meanwhile, it can overcome the limitation of the conventional sparsity-based DOA estimation approaches that the unknown directions belong to a predefined discrete angular grid, so it can further improve the DOA estimation accuracy. The modified rife algorithm for DOA estimation (Mrife-DOA) is simulated based on SRBWEV algorithm. In this proposed algorithm, the largest and sub-largest inner products between the measurement vector or its residual and the atoms in the dictionary are utilized to further modify DOA estimation according to the principle of rife algorithm and the basic idea of coarse-to-fine estimation. Finally, simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm is effective and can reduce the DOA estimation error caused by grid effect with lower complexity.

The frequency resolution of rife algorithm is relate to sample point. If the number of sample points is fixed, the frequency resolution of rife algorithm is fixed. In order to improve the frequency resolution, a new carrier frequency estimation algorithm combined by rife algorithm and ZOOM- FFT (ZFFT) is proposed. The simulations show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can improve the frequency resolution significantly, as the increase of computation of frequency estimation is seldom.

The carrier frequency estimation algorithm based on high-order cyclic cumulants does not need a training sequence. Due to the fact that the high-order cycle can suppress the stationary and non-stationary Gaussian noise, the algorithm is tolerant to the noise mentioned above. The computation of the algorithm is deduced in this paper. It shows that if large searching range of carrier frequency and high frequency resolution are required, the computation will be great. In order to solve the conflict between the high-performance and the computation, an algorithm which combine the rife algorithm and high-order cyclic cumulants is introduced in this paper. The simulations show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can reduce the computation considerably, as the performance of frequency estimation is hardly changed.

In order to improve the accuracy of ranging algorithm for millimeter wave linear frequency modulated continuous wave (LFMCW) radar, The modified rife algorithm (M-rife) is investigated in this paper. To decrease the error results from low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), a frequency estimation algorithm based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT) coefficient is proposed. The FFT coefficient is used to decide the frequency shift direction. Simulation results show that the method based on FFT coefficient has higher estimation precision on the measured frequency band and better performance in the case of low SNR.

The performance of DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) algorithm about frequency estimation is obviously declined, because the DFT spectrums have the problem of energy leakage and picket fence effect. Aiming at this problem, an adaptive algorithm based on FFT for frequency estimation is presented. In this paper we analysis the performance of rife algorithm and point out that the perfor mance is poor when the true frequency is much close to quantized frequency of DFT. The performance of segmented-FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) phase difference method is also analyzed, and we point out that the performance is poor when the phase difference of the maximum spectral line is big. This adaptive algorithm is a combination of these two algorithms. The adaptive algorithm not only retains the advantages of the two algorithms, but also effectively makes up for the shortcomings of the two algorithms. The simulation results show that the anti-noise performance and stability of algorithm have significantly improved.
