Integrating gray system analysis and empirical method for slope stability assessment in road engineering

The study aims to improve the prediction of slope stability in road engineering by combining sophisticated analytical methods, including ABAQUS software-based finite element modeling and gray relational analysis. The aim is to devise a systematic and impartial strategy that reduces the subjective biases linked with conventional empirical techniques, enhancing the precision of safety factor computations for soil slopes across diverse geological and environmental scenarios. This strategy tackles the drawbacks of traditional approaches, which frequently rely on empirical procedures and produce inconsistent findings in various contexts. The methodology entails utilizing ABAQUS software to create a numerical slope model and then calculating safety factors under different operating situations using the finite element strength reduction method. The improved gray relational analysis captures the complexity related to slope stability and offers a more thorough knowledge of variable interdependencies. The study uses ABAQUS to model slope stability problems and, despite its complexity, calculates exact safety factors using the finite element strength reduction approach to assess slope performance under various scenarios. The paper illustrates how the suggested approach may be used practically in engineering projects and how it can enhance the procedures involved in making decisions about slope stability evaluations.

In the construction process of road engineering, risks are everywhere. To do a good job in the risk management of road engineering projects, finding the risk factors of road engineering projects is an important part of it. This article introduces the characteristics of project risks and the process of risk management. The AHP method is applied to the risk analysis of road engineering projects to realize the ranking of risk factors, the evaluation of the total risk system, and the selection of risk response measures. This article conducts risk evaluation on the project, finds out important risk factors, and effectively controls them. This paper adopts the analytic hierarchy process on the overall risk management of road engineering projects. Finally, it comprehensively considers the systemic and non-systematic risks faced by road engineering, and specifically involves macro policy and economic risks, as well as project initiation and project construction. The risks and capital risks, and other links considered the internal and external factors of the road-engineering project. In this way, the project risk has been comprehensively measured by a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, and the effective management of the project has been finally realized.

It is significant to make full use of solar energy to reduce the deterioration of asphalt pavements and the negative impact on the environment due to temperature changes. Using phase change materials (PCMs) in asphalt mixture could increase temperature regulation and reduce thermal degradation due to temperature cycling. In order to study the effect of a new solid-solid PCM called PPGC-PCM on the performance of asphalt mixture, a series of tests were carried out. The control group and six different contents of PPGC-PCM were added into AC-13 asphalt mixtures. The effects of PPGC-PCM on the mechanical, moisture resistance, high-temperature, and low-temperature cracking resistance properties of asphalt mixture was analyzed. The influence of PPGC-PCM on the thermal properties in asphalt mixture was analyzed by thermal conductivity test. Results showed that the addition of PPGC-PCM could improve the moisture resistance and low-temperature cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures, as well as greatly reduce the thermal conductivity of the asphalt mixture. The optimal application could be achieved by using the PPGCPCM with 7.5% addition ratio. In addition, the cooling test proved that the addition of PPGC-PCM could significantly improve the heat preservation capacity of the asphalt mixture. The temperature difference between PPGC-PCM and control testing groups was up to 3.8 degrees C, and the mixture was cooled from 21 degrees C to 0 degrees C with a delay of 18-21 min. Evaluation of the road Performance and engineering Applications of Asphalt Mixtures Incorporating Straw Fiber

In this paper, wheat-straw fiber (WSF) was added to asphalt mixtures to improve their high-temperature stability and recycle crop waste resources. The main performance indices of the WSF were analyzed, and the main factors and mechanisms that affect the high-temperature performance and modification mechanism of asphalt mixtures with WSF were studied, based on an example of a highway project in Qinba mountainous area, China. It was concluded that the charring effect of WSF was not significant when the ambient temperature was lower than 140 degrees C, but was significant when the temperature was higher than 180 degrees C. For every 0.1% increase in the WSF admixture, the AC-13 asphalt mixtures' rho f index decreased by an average of 0.03 gcm3, the asphalt mixture's VV index increased by 1.30%, and the optimal dosage of asphalt increased by 0.1%-0.3%. The optimum amount of asphalt for rutting tests and Marshall tests of asphalt mixtures with WSF differed by 0.2%-0.3%. The dynamic stability of the asphalt mixtures with WSF increased by 20.4% compared to that of ordinary asphalt mixtures. For the AC-13 asphalt mixture, it is recommended that the WSF's dosage is 0.1%-0.2%, the appropriate length of WSF is 15 mm, and the moisture content is approximately 10%. The study provides new ideas for the recycling of wheat-straw waste resources and the improvement of asphalt pavement's high-temperature performance.

Effect of Compaction Ratio on Mechanical Properties of Low-Strength Hydraulically Bound Mixtures for road engineering

road layers should be properly compacted to obtain an adequate bearing capacity and durability. Both the unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures used in the layers require compaction. After compaction and hardening, soil mixed with a binder acquires mechanical features that unbound soil lacks, including tensile strength (R-it) and unconfined compressive strength (R-c). The effect of the compaction ratio (D-Pr) of the low-strength cement-stabilised soils on these features has rarely been investigated. This study investigates the influence of the compaction ratio on the mechanical properties of hardened, stabilised mixtures of medium-grained sand with 5%, 6.5%, and 8% Portland cement. Cement-soil stabilisation tests showed that compressive strength depends exponentially on the compaction ratio, whereas tensile strength and the stiffness modulus depend linearly on the compaction ratio. For tensile strength and the dynamic stiffness modulus, the effect is not statistically significant, and the usual practice of ignoring compaction dependence is justified. For compressive strength, however, the effect is significant, especially when D-Pr = 98-100%. When the values of R-c and R-it strengths at various D-Pr were normalised by those at 100%, it was found that mixtures with higher strengths are the least resistant to changes in the compaction ratio. Knowing the percentage by which the value of a given parameter changes with compaction can be extremely valuable in engineering practice.

road engineering construction is an important project related to people's livelihood. In recent years, China has been investing heavily in road engineering and other infrastructure in order to promote the development of transportation in our country. However, the application of asphalt concrete in road construction is becoming more and more extensive, and more attention is paid to it. However, at the present stage, the disadvantages of asphalt concrete construction in road engineering are still very obvious, and the defects of construction quality are still prominent. Based on this theme, this paper first briefly explains the common problems in asphalt concrete of road engineering in our country at this stage, and then focuses on the analysis of effective strategies to strengthen the construction quality control of asphalt concrete of road engineering.

This paper mainly analyzes the current stage of road engineering subgrade, pavement structure design content, hoping to put forward practical suggestions for future road engineering construction.

road engineers have special responsibilities to design and maintain roads that are safe, secure, and serviceable. This paper explores some of the challenges such responsibilities pose, especially from the vantage point of non engineers whose lives are deeply affected by the work of road engineers. It also supports the thesis that road engineers need to be prepared to consult and work with professionals in other fields than engineering in order to fulfill their responsibilities well.
