The Public Private Partnership (PPP) depicts a new contractual arrangement in which the public interest of getting the value for money to maximum level goes in tandem in with the private sector goal which is to obtain the maximum profit possible. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of Public and Private Partnership on road infrastructure development in Kenya. The study was therefore aimed at answering the question as to whether the adoption of PPPs has impacted on road infrastructure development in Kenya. Transaction costs theory, agency theory and exchange theory were the anchor theories in the research. The research design adopted in the study was descriptive. The population of the research incorporated all the infrastructure projects undertaken in Kenya from 2007 to 2017. There were 185 road construction projects implemented within the period of study. Data used in the study was from secondary sources sourced from the National treasury on infrastructure projects, State Department of infrastructure - Kenya National Highways Authority and from KNBS. The analysis of the data was done by both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze. The presentation of the data analyzed was in tables’ format. The results of the correlation analysis revealed that road infrastructure development was positively associated with Cost of financing road infrastructure projects using PPP where r = 0.7

Analysis of the contribution of rural road infrastructure development to economic growth based on computer algorithms

A convenient and efficient rural road network helps to develop the rural economy and promote national rural revitalization. This paper systematically analyzes the role of rural road infrastructure construction on economic growth from a theoretical perspective. Simultaneously, it employs a computer algorithm based on vector autoregression to construct an econometric model. Based on this theoretical analysis empirically examines the relationship between rural infrastructure construction and economic development. It collects data from a city’s rural area from 2000 to 2020 as a research sample and conducts a series of analyses, including VAR model estimation, impulse response, and variance decomposition. The results show that rural road infrastructure construction has a significant impact on economic growth, with coefficients of -0.288 and 0.356 for lags 1 and 2. The construction of rural road infrastructure is responsible for more than 90% of the variation in economic growth, whereas the opposite is about 10%. Therefore, rural road infrastructure development does not have a significant effect on economic growth in the short term but has a significant effect in the medium and long term. © 2024 Hailin Gao and Guangji Tong, published by Sciendo.

Considering Ethiopia as one of the landlocked countries and has given a high priority to the road transport infrastructure sector in east Africa, this study examines the effect of road transport infrastructure development on economic growth throughout 1981-2017. To assess the economic effect of road infrastructure, we first perform unit root tests using the augmented dickey-fuller (ADF) unit root test approach. Then, we assess the co-integration between road transport infrastructure and economic growth using the autoregressive distributed lag bound test model by conducting an F test. Once co-integration is established, the Ordinary Least Square estimation technique was used to estimate the elasticity of economic growth using autoregressive distributed lag-error correction model approaches; the obtained result shows that road infrastructure has a considerable positive effect on long-term economic growth in Ethiopia. The study concludes that road infrastructure is essential for growth in the economy and the study highlights substantial issues that policymakers should give due attention to the effective formulation and implementation of road infrastructure development policies in Ethiopia.

Private sector plays the vital role in the success of road infrastructure development in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) in Vietnam. However, factors significantly influencing private partners' willingness to participate in road PPP projects remain unclear. The paper aims at studying factors affecting private sector investment decision in road PPP projects. The research has conducted literature reviews and questionnaire surveys concerning the road PPP projects that have been implemented in Vietnam, identifying 26 factors that can be grouped into seven major components using principal component factor analysis. Using the linear regression model and the data from a questionnaire survey, the findings reveal that three variables have a significant coefficient, including lender support, public support, capacity and experience of the private sector. The result can offer suggestions, including a theoretical basis and practical guidance for government to encourage private partners to participate in road PPP projects.
