The work presented in this paper aims to develop and implement a robust algorithm for generating synthetic phonocardiogram (PCG) signals based on characteristics obtained from real life signals. The purpose of this work is to identify a few set of parameters that can be linked to the physiological state of the heart. The mathematical model used in the synthesis of the signal was based on three coupled ordinary differential equations (ODE) proposed by Jabloun et al. (2013). The amplitude, S2S1 duration, and heart rate of the real life PCG signals were extracted and used in the synthesis of the signals. The real life PCG signals were obtained from the MITHSDB and AADHSDB databases from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Aalborg University respectively. The signals were preprocessed using a second order Butterworth low pass filter of cutoff frequency of 500 Hz to obtain cleaner versions. The system of equations was numerically solved with the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. These synthetic PCG signals were then compared with the real life PCG signals. The time domain correlations between the two sets of signals showed a good agreement between the two with values above 0.8 for all tested cases. The percentage differences in heart rate (beats per minutes), amplitude and S2S1 durations between the real life and synthesized PCG signals also showed a close match with percentage values as small as 1.61%, 2.27% and 4.51% for heart rate, amplitude and S2S1 duration respectively. In this paper, a computation algorithm using the exponential function to increase the robustness of the dynamic state estimation is proposed. The merit of this approach lies in its immunity to the polluted measurements, while the implementation of the method is not complicated when compared with other methods. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was tested through several example power systems under different scenarios that include normal operation, bad measurements, sudden load change, and topology error conditions. From test results, they help support the feasibility of the method for state estimation applications.

Green Networking improves the energy efficiency by reducing the redundant resources of the network. However, these redundant resources are originally prepared in the network to make the network more robust. In this case, robust issue appears as a problem in green networking, especially when the emergency happens. This problem is usually less considered or ignored in existing research of green networking. In this paper, we explore and provide robust algorithms towards network emergency including traffic burst and link failure. The evaluation shows that our algorithm can cost less extra energy to handle the network emergency.

Locating an iris is important in an iris recognition system. Previous studies have shown good performance when an iris image is clear. However, if an iris image is occluded by eyelids, eyelashes and reflection, the accuracy and robustness of localization will decrease significantly. This paper proposed a new algorithm to locate an iris in a coarse-to-fine manner: firstly, a modified radial symmetry transform was used to find the possible pupil region;secondly, an enhanced circular integro operator was adopted to obtain the precise iris location. Experimental results on CASIA V3.0 iris database showed that proposed algorithm has a more accurate and robust performance than the previous methods, especially when occlusion of eyelids, eyelashes and reflection occurred. A real-time system was able to be achieved by the coarse-to-fine strategy as well.

Design of robust algorithm for machine learning based on deep search of outliers is implemented in this study. The depth first search is a graph traversal method. The traversal process is essentially the process of finding the leading point of each vertex. It starts from a vertex of the graph, and the visited vertices are marked with seven visited marks. The statistical inference rules under this new theoretical system not only take into account the requirements for asymptotic performance, but also seek to obtain optimal results under the condition of existing limited information. By transforming the original problem into a dual problem, the computational complexity of the support vector machine no longer depends on the spatial dimension, but on the number of support vectors in the sample. For the robust system, the abnormal detection is considered for the application scenario. Through the Hadoop testing, the ideas are validated.

This paper proposes a new robust cost function, which combines the inverse hyperbolic sine cost function and the generalized maximum correlation entropy. Based on this cost function, a robust diffusion generalized correntropy-based inverse hyperbolic sine (DGCIHS) algorithm is proposed. The mean-square performance and convergence analysis are performed to theoretically prove the reliability of the algorithm. Simulation experimental results confirm the theoretical analysis, demonstrating the algorithm's robustness. Compared with similar algorithms, the robust diffusion generalized maximum correlation entropy inverse hyperbolic sinusoidal algorithm demonstrates superior performance.

Self-adaptive robust algorithm applied on compact real-time polarization sensor for navigation

Celestial navigation has remarkable performance in autonomous navigation without error accumulation. For supplying orientation information to a portable vehicle in real time, a compact polarization sensor with high precision and strong robustness was constructed in this study based on the mechanism of insect polarization-opponent neurons structure. The sensor, composed of polarization-dependent module and microcontroller unit, could supply heading angle for real-time navigation. To enhance the robustness of sensor in a complex environment, a self-adaptive algorithm based on information entropy theory was proposed. The algorithm could eliminate the effect of random obstacles in the sensor field under constantly changing light conditions. The laboratory and outdoor tests indicated that the sensor, with +/- 0.1 deg measured error and +/- 0.4 deg fluctuation under natural obstacle, had potential application prospects in polarization navigation. A New robust Identification algorithm for Hammerstein-Like System Using Identification Error Structure

A new robust identification algorithm is introduced in this study for a Hammerstein-like system based on identification error information. With the help of the half-substitution idea, the identification model is converted into a compact model where the coupling parameters are avoided. To reduce the effect of noise signals, a filter gain is proposed to obtain helpful system data. Then, on the basis of the filtered variables and developed forcing variables, the identification error information is extracted from the helpful system data. By using the identification error data, a new parameter estimation adaptive law that differs from the classic prediction error method is derived. Therefore, a new identification scheme framework is proposed and the weakness of the prediction error method is improved. Simulations and a real-life plant are presented to test the validity and practicality of the presented identification approach. The results of parameter estimation and estimation error qualitatively demonstrated the advantages of the proposed algorithm. The computational complexity and performance evaluation indicators results of the developed algorithm quantitatively indicated that the proposed algorithm produces higher estimation performance compared with the other algorithms.

Jet engine modulation (JEM), a modulation phenomenon induced by a rotating jet engine compressor, is a representative feature extracted from the radar for aircraft target recognition. In this study, the authors present a robust and fast algorithm for extracting the spool rate, which imparts fundamental periodicity to JEM signals. First, a wavelet decomposition with Meyer wavelet was applied to the analytic form of the JEM signal. Then, the decomposition components were combined to achieve a sufficient energy and minimise the mean of the JEM auto-correlation. Finally, the peak detection algorithm was employed for automatic estimation of the spool rate. Application results of measured JEM signals demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is effective for stable and accurate extraction of the jet engine information.

Background: A new algorithm for precise characterisation of rotationally symmetric aspheric surfaces by the conic section and polynomial according to the ISO 10110 standard is described. Methods: The algorithm uses only the iterative linear least squares. It uses fitting the surface form in a combination with terms containing its spatial derivatives that represent infinitesimal transformations of form. Results: The algorithm reaches sub-nanometre residuals even though the aspheric surface is translated and rotated in the space. Conclusion: he algorithm is computationally robust and an influence of local surface imperfections can be easily reduced by use of a criterion for residuals.
