Network-on-chip (NoC) is emerging as an effective architecture which address the shortcomings of traditional bus-based System-on-chip (SoC). Since its better properties, such as the lower power consumption, smaller size and higher scalability, mesh is often regarded as an effective topology for NoC design. In this paper, we propose a double-layer sparse honeycomb topology as a terrific design option gaining advantages of degree, diameter, and network cost which is vital to network performance. As a result of the fact that 3D IC has developed as a perspective technique for network topology, we transform the sparse honeycomb topology into rectangular brick shape that it is feasible to be implemented on the chip, and double the planar sparse honeycomb structure to obtain this advantageous 3D topology. Based on the addressed topology, a brief routing algorithm which is easy and improved from the dimension order routing algorithm is carried out. The 4×4 router for the new topology has been implemented and simulated. Thus, the degree of routers is reduced and the utilization is increased.

Dynamic routing protocols transmit routing information in a finite time, resulting in errors in determining the optimal packet route. As a consequence, the efficiency of data exchange may deteriorate, for example, increasing the time spent on the network packets. The aim of the work is to study the behavior of the network in the case of unpredictable topology changes caused by sudden multiple failures of network equipment. The solution is carried out with the help of a specialized simulation model that allows you to track the change in network parameters in the process of its operation. Simulation showed that equipment failures lead to a qualitatively new network behavior, for the characteristics of which, along with the traditional indicator “packet delivery time”, two characteristics are additionally defined: “the proportion of lost packets” and “the probability of packet looping”. A comparative analysis of several variants of the implementation of routing algorithms using multi-step and one-step metrics is performed and the conditions for choosing the optimal parameters of routing process control are determined. The results of the research allow us to determine the requirements for the speed of transmission of route information, characteristics of route labels and access control parameters depending on the network topology.

Higher global bandwidth requirement for many applications and lower network cost have motivated the use of the Dragonfly network topology for high performance computing systems. In this paper we present the architecture of the Cray Cascade system, a distributed memory system based on the Dragonfly [1 ] network topology. We describe the structure of the system, its Dragonfly network and the routing algorithms. We describe a set of advanced features supporting both mainstream high performance computing applications and emerging global address space programing models. We present a combination of performance results from prototype systems and simulation data for large systems. We demonstrate the value of the Dragonfly topology and the benefits obtained through extensive use of adaptive routing.

An improved model of LtKademlia and associated routing algorithm based on Kademha are proposed. In this model, a method has been proposed to achieve self-organized clustering by mapping IP address to the node ID to match the logical topology to the physical topology and solve the detaining problem. A routing algorithm based on the node real-time comprehensive performance and logical distance has been designed to adapt the load to the power of the node. The simulation result shows that the query delay of the improved model is less than the original model.

Cloud media services will become indispensable to enrich our future daily life. However, bandwidth-intensive cloud media services involve huge amount of data traffic while the requirements for quality of services (QoS) are diverse among different clients. Conventional data center networks (DCN) meet difficulties in terms of scalability and flexibility to support the increasing bandwidth requirements for cloud media services. To solve this problem, a new type of architecture, MatrixDCN, is proposed in this paper. MatrixDCN is an approximate non-blocking network, in which switches and servers are arranged in rows and columns that compose a matrix structure. A MatrixDC-N based network can accommodate up to hundreds of thousands of servers with good scalability. A high-efficient routing algorithm is well designed to fully leverage the regularity in the topology while computing a routing table in a simple way. Theoretical analysis and experimental data show that MatrixDCN have advantages on topology's scalability, network throughput, and its routing algorithm.

This paper presents a flexible mesh router architecture using synchronous parallel pipeline worm-switching supporting unicast and multicast services. A very flexible mechanism to manage broadcast-flow to share the communication link in on-chip network is proposed. The proposed machanism guarantees, that all flits in multicast packets can be accepted in their multiple destination nodes. Our Network-on-Chip (NoC) is implemented based on modular synthesizable VHDL objects. The Architecture is flexible to design new NoC prototypes. Area overhead to update the NoC from unicast to multicast with the same routing algorithm is only about 15%.

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is challenging to deliver a query message for a requesting data efficiently when the topology of network keeps changing frequently and has many partitions. Many routing algorithms suffer from path breaks. Our work focuses on communication between vehicles to roadside unit stations by requesting data only one-hop communication from the requesting node. routing algorithms are not needed to create data transfer path. We present a cooperative-bloom filter-assisted query protocol for data access in VANET, COBRA-Q. The COBRA-Q utilizes the movement of vehicles to achieve transfer of the request data within one-hop communication. The COBRA-Q uses bloom filter technique to keep and compress car traveling history records. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of our proposed protocol by simulation in ns-3. The real vehicle density and the real urban area in Bangkok are used. The simulation results show that the COBRA-Q can effectively access data in terms of percentage of success rate and overhead of using query message.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are typically composed of low-cost sensors that are deeply integrated with physical environments. As a result, the sensing performance of a WSN is inevitably undermined by various physical uncertainties, which include stochastic sensor noises, unpredictable environment changes and dynamics of the monitored phenomenon. Traditional solutions (e.g., sensor calibration and collaborative signal processing) work in an open-loop fashion and hence fail to adapt to these uncertainties after system deployment. In this paper, we propose an adaptive system-level calibration approach for a class of sensor networks that employ data fusion to improve system sensing performance. Our approach features a feedback control loop that exploits sensor heterogeneity to deal with the aforementioned uncertainties in calibrating system performance. In contrast to existing heuristic based solutions, our control-theoretical calibration algorithm can ensure provable system stability and convergence. We also systematically analyze the impacts of communication reliability and delay, and propose an optimal routing algorithm that minimizes the impact of packet loss on system stability. Our approach is evaluated by both experiments on a testbed of Tmotes as well as extensive simulations based on data traces gathered from a real vehicle detection experiment. The results demonstrate that our calibration algorithm enables a network to maintain the optimal detection performance in the presence of various system and environmental dynamics.

In the design of routing algorithm for wireless multimedia sensor networks, aiming at how to meet QoS requirements as well as to improve the energy efficiency, an efficient Optimal Number of Clusters Algorithm (ONCA) was proposed. ONCA divides network region into uneven virtual grids based on the optimal number of clusters. ONCA selects and prioritizes the cluster-head and forwarding candidate set in an efficient manner, which considers the remaining energy of nodes. In the stage of data transmission, packets transmission rate can be optimized dynamically. Simulation results show that ONCA meets the requirement of QoS in real-time and reliability domains and can extend the network life cycle.

The reliability is a vital aspect in the design of Network-on-Chip (NoC) based systems because a fault in communication medium may cause an overall system failure. On the other hand, performance degradation is an inescapable consequence of fault-tolerant architectures. In this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant NoC architecture that attains higher performance by using low cost agents in a hierarchical manner. These agents which are distributed all over the network, collect, process, and distribute different fault information. Moreover, we propose an enhanced fault-tolerant and congestion-aware routing method that exploits the classified fault information related to the permanent faults that might occur inside the links, network interfaces and different parts of the routers. The experimental results reveal that the proposed NoC architecture imposes small area and power overheads.
