The field of interconnection network has recently observed a resurgent interest that are fueled by modern ICT technologies wherein traditional topologies have been found less desirable. The recent approach using the random network model has been considered a good answer to new challenges but also has a limitation in routing scalability, i.e. the routing table size (RTS) can become very large which is not affordable by market commodity switches. We propose to design new routing schemes especially designed for the random network model that can improve this situation. As a major contribution, we propose a new compact routing scheme named byCORRA which exploits the random model properties that help to achieve near optimum route length while keeps the routing table size small enough. In general, our new routing algorithm can achieve average route length only a bit longer than in using the shortest path routing. The RTS achieved by CORRA is very small as expected, e.g. 520 for network size 8192, which is small enough to allow network size even up to millions of nodes. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

Combining VANET with ICN (Information Centric Network), this paper proposes a new FIB (Forwarding Information Base) selecting algorithm-ECRMLET (Efficient Content routing Model Based on Link Expiration Time). To build stable routings and reduce network traffic, our ECRMLET has the following designs: 1) we modify the structure of PIT (Pending Interest Table) by adding two domains: receive time and tolerance time;2) we introduce the algorithm of LET (Link Expiration Time) to help with the content routing selection in FIB;3) ECRMLET also gets the link availability probability to be auxiliary information for our algorithm. © 2017 IFIP.

Clustering and multi-hop routing algorithms substantially prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, in multi-hop routing, the nodes near the sink are burdened with heavy relay traffic and tend to exhaust their energy very quickly. Thus, the energy hole arises. In this paper, we propose an SDN-based Unequal Clustering routing (SDUCR) protocol for WSNs, which consists of a Centralized Unequal Clustering algorithm (CUCA) and a Connected Graph Based Minimum Energy Consumption (CGMEC) multi-hop routing algorithm. We use the centralized intelligence of Software Defined Network (SDN) to implement clustering and routing. Our CUCA is used to partition the network into clusters of unequal size based on residual energy and degree of sensor nodes. The CGMEC algorithm constructs a routing tree among cluster heads which ensures the connectivity among nodes and balances the communication cost of all nodes. Simulation results show that our SDUCR protocol balances the energy consumption among sensor nodes and achieves an obvious improvement on the network lifetime. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

As a part from the great revolution that was occurred recently, a continuous improvement was and still achieved in communication and network field. Wireless Sensor Networks was emerged as a result for this development, extensive researches were introduced in order to improve it is performance since it is now employed within several tactical applications, including;detection and monitoring applications. routing process is considered one of the hottest research areas throughout the last years, several routing protocols were proposed in order to improve the performance of the network. In this paper, a new Energy Efficient Optimized routing Algorithm (EEORA) is proposed and implemented by hybridization for the features of flat and Hierarchal routing techniques. EEORA routing process is performed into two stages, clustering and data communication phases. MATLAB program was employed in simulating the model of the proposed routing protocol for both Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and Dense Wireless Sensor Networks (DWSNs). The results showed that more scalability is obtained by EEORA over other considered routing protocols. The results also showed that improved performance in terms of, energy consumption, end-to-end delay, network life time and throughput is also achieved by EEORA. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

Packet routing is important for Vehicular Delay Tolerant Networks (VDTNs). Opportunistic routing algorithms based on historical records are insufficiently accurate in forwarder selection due to movement randomness of vehicles. Trajectory-based routing algorithms tackle vehicle movement randomness but cannot be directly used in VDTNs due to the dependence on APs. In this paper, we develop a distributed trajectory-based routing algorithm (called MobiT) for VDTNs. This non-trivial task faces three challenges. First, vehicle trajectories must be sufficiently collected. Second, the trajectories cannot be updated frequently due to limited resources of the repository nodes. Third, achieving high routing performance even with partially collected trajectories. Our real trace study lays the foundation of the design of MobiT. Taking advantage of di?erent roles of vehicles, MobiT uses service vehicles that move in wide areas to collect vehicle trajectories, and rely on the service vehicles and roadside units (called schedulers) for routing scheduling. By using regular temporal congestion state of road segments, MobiT schedules the packet to arrive at a roadside unit prior to the destination vehicle to improve routing performance. Further, MobiT leverages vehicles' long-term mobility patterns to assist routing. Extensive trace-driven and real experiments show the e?ectiveness and efficiency of MobiT. © 2017 ACM.

An environmental control system for pig farms, based on a mobile coordinator and borrowed address routing algorithm, was designed to address the characteristics of large pig farms, such as the complex environment, numerous control objects and messy wiring. This system consisted of the control centre with ARM-LINUX, the remote control terminal and the wireless networks composed of various devices and sensors. In order to improve the success rate of orphan nodes connecting to the wireless sensor networks, and collect the piggery environment parameters accurately, the type of destination node would be assessed by the router to reduce the packet transmission delay. The coordinator node and the controller were installed on a patrol car with a battery to provide power. Experimental results showed that the success rates of network address assignment were improved by using the borrowed address algorithm. Remote real-time control of environmental parameters was implemented, and this system will find wide application in modern precision livestock farming. © 2017 European Conference on Precision Livestock Farming. General variable neighborhood search (GVNS) is a well known and widely used metaheuristic for efficiently solving many NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. We propose a novel extension of the conventional GVNS. Our approach incorporates ideas and techniques from the field of quantum computation during the shaking phase. The travelling salesman problem (TSP) is a well known NP-hard problem which has broadly been used for modelling many real life routing cases. As a consequence, TSP can be used as a basis for modelling and finding routes via the Global Positioning System (GPS). In this paper, we examine the potential use of this method for the GPS system of garbage trucks. Specifically, we provide a thorough presentation of our method accompanied with extensive computational results. The experimental data accumulated on a plethora of TSP instances, which are shown in a series of figures and tables, allow us to conclude that the novel GVNS algorithm can provide an efficient solution for this type of geographical problem.

Three-dimensional networks-on-chip (NoC) is proposed to achieve better communication performance, higher device density and lower power consumption. However, thermal issues resulted by stacked high power density architecture are significant challenges for design of 3D NoC architectural systems. In this paper, we explore the thermal impacts of routing algorithms for 3D mesh-based NoC architecture. The thermal impacts of routing algorithms are analyzed, and distinct temperature distributions caused by routing algorithms are discussed. The 3D Odd-Even routing algorithm with random selection scheme is compared with 3D Odd-Even routing algorithm with thermal-aware selection scheme. The experimental results show that 3D Odd-Even routing algorithm with thermal-aware selection scheme achieves higher throughput by 19% under 95°C temperature limits.

Energy consumption in telecommunication networks keeps growing rapidly, mainly due to emergence of new Cloud Computing (CC) services that need to be supported by large data centers that consume a huge amount of energy and, in turn, cause the emission of enormous quantity of CO_2. Given the decreasing availability of fossil fuels and the raising concern about global warming, research is now focusing on novel "low-carbon" telecom solutions. E.g., based on today telecom technologies, data centers can be located near renewable energy plants and data can then be effectively transferred to these locations via reconfigurable optical networks, based on the principle that data can be moved more efficiently than electricity. This paper focuses on how to dynamically route on-demand optical circuits that are established to transfer energy-intensive data processing towards data centers powered with renewable energy. Our main contribution consists in devising two routing algorithms for connections supporting CC services, aimed at minimizing the CO_2 emissions of data centers by following the current availability of renewable energy (Sun and Wind). The trade-off with energy consumption for the transport equipments is also considered. The results show that relevant reductions, up to about 30% in CO_2 emissions can be achieved using our approaches compared to baseline shortest-path-based routing strategies, paying off only a marginal increase in terms of network blocking probability.
