In this paper, we propose a novel inter-domain connection provisioning mechanism for multi-domain translucent Wavelength Switched Optical Networks. The mechanism can operate in hierarchical and non-hierarchical path computation element-based architectures. It is based on a novel approach to derive the domain abstract topologies jointly with an inter-domain routing algorithm. The overall objective is to perform end-to-end route computations for incoming connections. We do so by taking into account the current load of the physical links and some energy parameters of the optical network devices with the purpose of distributing the load (as much as possible) along the physical links and keeping the energy consumption low. The performance of the whole mechanism is highlighted through extensive and illustrative simulation results that benchmark it against shortest path-based techniques.

Geographic routing protocols show good properties for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). They are stateless, local and scalable. However they require that each node of the network is aware of its own position. While it may be possible to equip each node with GPS receiver, even if it is costly, there are some issues and receiving a usable GPS signal may be difficult in some situations. For these reasons, we propose a geographic routing algorithm, called HGA, able to take advantages of position informations of nodes when available but also able to continue the routing in a more traditional way if position information is not available. We show with simulations that our algorithm offers an alternative solution to classical routing algorithm (non-geographic) and offers better performances for network with a density above 25 and more than 5% of nodes are aware of their position.

Many consumer products in the home environment are managed by the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, the energy hole problem in the WSNs which with logical ring topology and uniformly distributed sensors is usually caused by the energy exhaustion of the sensors which distributed in the first radius range of the sink. This paper firstly analyzed the energy consumption model of the sensor, the data transmission model of the sensor, and the energy consumption distribution model of the WSNs. Then, a WSN Energy Hole Alleviating (WSNEHA) algorithm, which is based on the data forwarding and router selection strategy, is proposed. The WSNEHPA adopts the data forwarding and routing selection strategy to balance the energy consumption of the sensors in the first radius range of the sink. Experimental results demonstrate that WSNEHPA can efficiently balance the energy consumption of the sensors in the first radius range of the sink, and that the lifetime of the WSNs can be extended efficiently(1).
