After coal mine gas explosion and other accidents, rapid rescue is an important task. The underground tunnel is generally narrow and the number of people passing through it is limited. Therefore, a real-time detection technique is urgently needed to feedback the mine environment in real time and locate the trapped miners accurately. Under the actual environment, the rescue robot technology is urgently needed in the underground abominable environment. The rescue robot can use the airborne binocular camera to respond the downhole environment to the ground operation platform in real time. Due to the complexity of the environment in the mine, we must study a robust, real-time and accurate matching algorithm to restore the real scenes in the mine. In this paper, the improved census algorithm is used for stereo vision matching, and compared with the traditional sad algorithm in the matching performance, and the superiority of the improved census algorithm is proved.

Imaging of subcutaneous veins is important in many applications, such as gaining venous access, vascular surgery and venipuncture. Traditional vein imaging system can only obtain the two dimensional information of the vein which loses the depth information of the vein. It may cause the errors of judgment and increase the venipuncture failure. On the basis of previous research, a new system was proposed to acquire the three dimensional of the vein. In this paper, the infrared absorption characteristics of the vein and the principle of binocular vision were combined to obtain infrared images of subcutaneous veins and recovery the three dimensional information. The binocular vision system was consists of several 850 nm near-infrared LEDs to illuminate the back of the hand and two near-infrared CCD devices to obtain the transmission of IR image. The couple of CCDs will get IR images of the hand which contain the disparity information. The principle of stereo vision was used to recover the three dimensional structure. The algorithm processes includes camera calibration, image preprocessing, epipolar rectification, stereo correspondence and three dimensional reconstructions. Experimental result shows that it can acquire a good three dimensional structure. Since the new system can recover the depth of the vein, it can be applied as the venipuncture auxiliary equipment to improve the success rate of venipuncture.

Unlike other implementing optical flow calculation for 2D sensors, we used a sensor with concentrically arranged elementary detectors. In paper we deal with the realization of geometric log-polar transformation. This facilitated the creation of virtual concentric sensor from classical 2D sensor. We described the implementation of the calculation of optical flow for virtual sensor based on FPGA. We also discuss the properties of a new sensor for use it in anti-collision systems.

We describe the architecture and implementation of bilateral background subtraction for real-time stereo vision system. Pre-smoothing a signal and noise removal may help to improve the performance for many signal-processing algorithms such as compression, detection, enhancement, recognition, and more [2]. Bilateral filtering proposed by C. Tomasi and R. Manduchi can be used as an edge-preserving smoother, removing high-frequency components of an image without blurring its edges [ 1] [3]. Recently, [3] showed enhanced real-time stereo through software implementation of bilateral filtering. In this paper, we show hardware implementation of bilateral background subtraction for real-time stereo and present its architecture as well as required hardware resources. Also, we provide experimental results with real data and present our future works.

In this paper, we proposed a stereo object tracking system that can control the convergence angle and pan/tilt of cameras by using optical binary phase extraction joint transform correlator (BPEJTC) and can extract the tracking object from a complex background and foreground noises by using the block matching-based window mask. It is used to perceive and extract the tracking object from the foreground and complex background by using window mask of the block matching-based sad(sum of absolute difference), and by using the optical BPEJTC of the phase type, which has improved the correlating properties of the conventional optical JTC(joint transform correlator) with the adaptive object tracking ability, the position values of moving target on the left and tight images can be calculated. And. we can be controlling the convergence angle and pan/tilt of cameras by using this values. Therefore, real time stereo object tracking system which could adapt to the changes in surrounding, can be implemented. From the experimental results, the proposed stereo tracking system is found to track the object adaptively under the complex circumstances and changing background noises and the possibility of real-time implementation of the proposed system by using the optical system is also suggested.
