In this method, the Green component of a color image is coded using spiht algorithm, and the other two components are segmented into multi-subregions by quadtree partitioning according to the non-correlation degree of three color components. Based on the calculated correlation vectors between three components in the same subregion, the coding for the other two components becomes the coding of correlation vectors. Experiment results show that this method is of high coding and decoding rates, and with quite good signal to noise ratio, compression rate and visual quality.

Necessity of image compression is described. Wavelet transform is adopted for image compression. Extensive simulations are performed to justify the choice of the D 9/7 wavelet. spiht (Set Partition in Hierarchical Trees) is chosen for image coding and then improved to address its defects. Desirable PSNR (Power Signal-to-Noise Ratio) is achieved and the image is reconstructed clearly in the MATLAB simulations. Analysis of experimental data indicates that the proposed method achieves considerable improvement in PSNR.

In response to the high data volumes of hyperspectral images and high data rates required for their transmission, many hyperspectral data compression methods have been researched in recent years. In this paper, a new compression algorithm for hyperspectral image is proposed, which pays much more attention to its peculiarity of much higher spectral resolution. The new method combines three-dimensional integer wavelet transform and vector quantization, as well as Said and Pearlman's spiht algorithm is extended to three dimensions. The principle of the new method can be explained in three steps. First, three-dimensional integer wavelet transform is performed on the hyperspectral image. Second, spectral vectors are formed on the basis of the orientation features of three-dimensional wavelet coefficients, thus the high spectral dependencies of hyperspectral image can be exploited simultaneously with wavelet tree structure. Third, an algorithm that extends spiht algorithm to three dimensions is used to encode the spectral vectors. In order to test the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, 32 bands of an AVIRIS image arc used for computer simulation. The results show that the SNR in the reconstructed images can reach more than 40 dB on average at 0.6 bit per pixel, which indicates the proposed algorithm is efficient for the compression of hyperspectral images.

Wavelets have emerged as powerful tools for signal compression. Wavelet transform is used to represent the signal to some other time frequency representation, better suited for detection and removing redundancies. Wavelet coefficients are threshold using bit plane coding. Wavelet based compression of electrocardiogram (ECG) based on set partitioning in hierarchical trees algorithm for MIT-BIH arrhythmia database of record 100 is proposed here. Proposed algorithm is significantly more efficient in compression and in computation than the previously proposed algorithm. This also attains exact bit rate control and generates a bit stream progressively in quality.

It is difficult to store the remote sensing images that feature high resolution and high information capacity. To address this problem, we perform three-level wavelet decomposition on the images using the optimal biorthogonal wavelet. Afterwards, the images are coded via spiht. The spiht algorithm is improved to achieve fixed-scale compression. Extension simulations are conducted. The results show that the proposed method increases PSNR and decreases the compression and decompression time.

In this paper, the performance of wireless transmission of spiht-encoded images employing Hierarchical Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (HQAM) is investigated with an experimental test-bed. Two Texas Instruments (TI) Digital Starter Kits (DSK), each one equipped with the floating point DSP chip TMS320C6713, are employed for the system testing, one for the transmitter and one for the receiver. The digital signal processing that formats the information data in preparation for transmission as well as the digital signal processing that recovers the information data at the receiver site are described in detail. Various results measuring bit error rates and peak signal-to-noise ratios are presented to demonstrate the performance of the experimental setup under various channel conditions, for different values of the modulation parameters.

The paper proposes a Steganography scheme which focuses on enhancing the embedding efficiency. There are only limited ways on which one can alter the cover image contents. So, for reaching a high embedding capacity, in the proposed method, the data is compressed using spiht algorithm and Arithmetic Coding. After which the information is embedded into the cover medium. The proposed method suggests an efficient strategy for hiding an image into a cover image of same size without much distortion and could be retrieved back successfully. The advantage of the system is that the cover medium size is reduced to the same size of the input image where in normal cases it is twice or even more. Also the cover image could be recovered from the original stego-image.

The constraints of traditional wavelet filters and wavelet coefficients such as it can not be based on the input signal changes, combined with underwater acoustic channel transmission and imaged sonar principles causes the sharp edges or the presence of singular points of piecewise smooth sound effects far from ideal. To deal with these shortcomings, this paper proposes an improved SPIRT algorithm which image most of the energy is concentrated in the low frequency sub-band after wavelet transform. Though SPIRT algorithm diversity redundancy judgment rule which is located in the low frequency sub-band Wavelet coefficients resulting in a code scanning initial zerotree and producing more unnecessary sign bit is relatively large. Using the methods and diversity judgment rules of changing the original algorithm in wavelet tree construction, which can reduce the initial stage of the zero-tree scan number and redundancy of diversity judgments resulting as well as improve the coding efficiency. Matlab language is used to achieve the analysis of underwater acoustic image compression. As the comparing results showed that the improved adaptive wavelet transform algorithm reduce the wavelet transform coefficients to obtain more ideal compression ratio at a certain extent. To ensure the stability of the transformation process, the acoustic image compression method has a good application value.
