In public Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), virtual machines, servers, storage, and network are provided by cloud service providers. As a cloud service provider, who is facing a task for time constraint, how to schedule the service resources to achieve the lowest cost becomes more and more important. Recently, most of works about MapReduce task scheduling are focus on homogeneous MapReduce framework. In this paper, we present the ILP formulation for solving the MapReduce task scheduling for time constrains problem in heterogeneous environment. This method considers processing speed, energy cost and time constrains at the same time. By using the method, we can finish the task in time and achieving lowest energy cost. Then, we solve this problem efficiently by using genetic algorithm(GA). According to our experimental results, the ILP formulation we proposed can always achieve the best solution, it also reduced the energy consumption by 10.15% compared to genetic algorithm.

A network with critical data streams, where the timing of incoming and outgoing data is a necessity, is called a deterministic network. These networks are mostly used in association with real-time systems that use periodic hard-real-time data which need to be scheduled. The algorithm proposed in this paper is focused on achieving the lowest possible latency within the specified network topology depending on the physical parameters of the network and the periodic requirements of the communicating nodes. The algorithm allows to add priorities to the data flow between nodes and also the option to specify if preemption is allowed within the network, since not all devices support it. The result is a schedule of hard-real-time data communication within a specified network topology where all requirements of communicating nodes are met if such a solution is possible. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

This research focuses on the development of an optimisation framework for scheduling Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) systems, considering the presence of substantial distributed photovoltaic (D-PV) presence in the network. A novel approach is introduced wherein EVs, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are synergistically utilised. This dual optimisation ensures the BESS not only absorbs excess renewable energy but also seamlessly integrates EVs, leading to considerable cost efficiencies for aggregators. Utilising V2G capabilities and BESS storage, the proposed scheduling system dynamically manages EV charging and discharging. The design maximises local PV utilisation, lowers peak loads, and reduces grid dependency during high renewable time by intelligently coordinating EV activities. Simulator tests show significant cost reductions, the flexibility of EV adaptation, and improved energy storage and distribution. The study helps make high D-PV integration into V2G systems more affordable, enabling grid-friendly operations and environmentally beneficial mobility. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel methodology to schedule community-level aggregator-controlled battery energy storage (BESS) to counteract the variability of distributed photovoltaic (D-PV) generation and electric vehicle (EV) demand. There is an increasing need to address the variability introduced by D-PV and EV adoption. This variability can lead to challenges like increased operation complexities and reduced efficiency of power distribution. This paper introduces a novel BESS scheduling approach tailored for community-level aggregators. The goal is to shape the grid operator's demand profile, achieving valley filling and peak shaving without compromising operational costs. The scheduling algorithm is a convex optimisation problem, which was solved using the interior point method to intelligently decide the charging and discharging rate at each time interval. Simulator tests show significant cost reductions of up to 50%. The study shows that the proposed BESS scheduling algorithm can help to create an operator-friendly demand curve while minimising the aggregator cost. © 2023 IEEE.

Hadoop bundles the two computing resources of memory and CPU in the management resources, and then divides it into two resource models: MapSlot and ReduceSlot according to task types. MapReduce applications will have a large number of sorting operations in operation. Most of these sorts are executed iteratively, which consumes a lot of performance. Chapter 5 of this article takes this as an entry point and reorganizes the execution process of the Shuffle stage. Researched to replace quick sort with more efficient counting sorting. At the same time, the Shuffle execution is branched according to the definition of Combiner. One branch deletes the quick sort in the partition in the spill phase and the merge sort in the combine phase to reduce performance consumption. The other branch executes Combiner in advance to improve data processing efficiency. The two branches processed 21GB of log data on a 7-node PC cluster, and both achieved an efficiency improvement of about half an hour.

The goal of this paper is to present an efficient realistic metric for evaluating cache scheduling algorithms in multi-user multi-cache environments. In a previous work, the requests sequence was set deliberately by an opponent (offline optimal) algorithm in an extremely unrealistic way, leading to an unlimited competitive ratio and to extremely unreasonable and unrealistic cache management strategies. In this paper, we propose to analyze the performance of cache management in a typical scenario, i.e., we consider all possibilities with their (realistic) distribution. In other words, we analyze the average case and not the worst case of scheduling scenarios. In addition, we present an efficient, according to our novel average case analysis, online heuristic algorithm for cache scheduling. The algorithm is based on machine-learning concepts, it is flexible and easy to implement.

In real-time systems, several tasks must be executed under strict time constraints. The time requirements satisfaction depends considerably on task scheduling algorithms. Thus, performance analysis, formal verification, and comparison between a set of existing scheduling algorithms or newly proposed ones in such systems could be of great interest to designers. However, when systems are complex, models are typically used to represent their various aspects and evaluate their performance. In this paper, we propose a generic scalable framework for the description, analysis, and verification of various types of scheduling protocols based on periodic task models with the integration of their task splitting versions. The proposed framework is hierarchical based on a graphical formal model defined as a network of timed automata. This model is generic as it can be easily instantiated to describe widely used scheduling protocols or any newly proposed ones. Such modeled protocols are then formally analyzed and a set of their crucial properties is formally verified. We evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach by implementing well-known load-balancing heuristic-based protocols.

Processors are becoming into multicore ones. The same trend is also emerging in embedded systems. More cores on the single chip provide better concurrent of the tasks. However, the task scheduling becomes the new challenge of embedded operating system. It is still an important issue that how the tasks in multicore embedded system can be scheduled efficiently under the condition of ensuring the real-time constraint. When the number of processor cores increases continuously, such situation also relates to task scheduling for efficiency. In this paper, a novel scheduling algorithm is proposed for multicore embedded systems with the satisfied real-time condition. When the number of on-chip cores increase, this algorithm can meet the new requirements. The experimental results show that our algorithm has achieved its target.

This paper aims to assess methods that may help to improve the efficiency of task scheduling, to enhance the overall functionality and performance of grid systems. The study will examine and analyze the integrated approach, which could help to enhance task scheduling within grid systems. It is recognized that modifying the scheduling algorithm can play a significant role in improving the functionality and performance of task scheduling and therefore the veracity of the grid system. It is important to note that this study also includes appropriate simulations along with analyses to establish the reliability and authenticity of the proposed technique.

In the context of Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS) clouds, the extensive use of Large Language Models (LLMs) often requires efficient management of significant query loads. When providing real-time inference services, several challenges arise. Firstly, increasing the number of GPUs may lead to a decrease in inference speed due to a heightened communication overhead, while an inadequate number of GPUs can lead to out-of-memory errors. Secondly, different deployment strategies need to be evaluated to guarantee optimal utilization and minimal inference latency. Lastly, inefficient orchestration of inference queries can easily lead to significant Service Level Objective (SLO) violations. To address these challenges, we propose a Unified and Efficient approach for Large Language Model inference serving (UELLM), which consists of three main components: 1) resource profiler, 2) batch scheduler, and 3) LLM deployer. The resource profiler characterizes resource usage of inference queries by predicting resource demands based on a fine-tuned LLM. The batch scheduler effectively batches the queries profiled by the resource profiler based on batching algorithms, aiming to decrease inference delays while meeting SLO and efficient batch processing of inference queries. The LLM deployer can efficiently deploy LLMs by considering the current cluster hardware topology and LLM characteristics, enhancing resource utilization and reducing resource overhead. UELLM minimizes resource overhead, reduces inference latency, and lowers SLO violation rates. Compared with state-of-the-art (SOTA) techniques, UELLM reduces the inference latency by 72.3% to 90.3%, enhances GPU utilization by 1.2x to 4.1x, and increases throughput by 1.92x to 4.98x, it can also serve without violating the inference latency SLO.
