On the basis of analysis on the characteristic of the tasks in control system, the task model and subtask model are given. A scheduling algorithm for control system named half-preemptive EDF algorithm is proposed. The algorithm can guarantee the utility of processor and reduce the times of tasks that are preempted by other tasks. Because the performance of control system is influenced by sampling period and control delay and they affect each other, genetic algorithm is adopted to optimize the performance of control system in order to acquire optimal sampling period. Based on floating-point coding, elitist species and rank-based selection are combined. The simulation results show that the algorithm presented in this paper can guarantee schedulability of tasks and improve the performance of control system.

Hadoop is seriously limited by its MapReduce scheduler which does not scale well in heterogeneous environment. Heterogenous environment is characterized by various devices which vary greatly with respect to the capacities of computation and communication, architectures, memorizes and power. As an important extension of Hadoop, LATE MapReduce scheduling algorithm takes heterogeneous environment into consideration. However, it falls short of solving the crucial problem - poor performance due to the static manner in which it computes progress of tasks. Consequently, neither Hadoop nor LATE schedulers are desirable in heterogeneous environment. To this end, we propose SAMR: a Self-Adaptive MapReduce scheduling algorithm, which calculates progress of tasks dynamically and adapts to the continuously varying environment automatically. When a job is committed, SAMR splits the job into lots of fine-grained map and reduce tasks, then assigns them to a series of nodes. Meanwhile, it reads historical information which stored on every node and updated after every execution. Then, SAMR adjusts time weight of each stage of map and reduce tasks according to the historical information respectively. Thus, it gets the progress of each task accurately and finds which tasks need backup tasks. What's more, it identifies slow nodes and classifies them into the sets of slow nodes dynamically. According to the information of these slow nodes, SAMR will not launch backup tasks on them, ensuring the backup tasks will not be slow tasks any more. It gets the final results of the fine-grained tasks when either slow tasks or backup tasks finish first. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by extensive experiments over various heterogeneous environment. Experimental results show that SAMR significantly decreases the time of execution up to 25% compared with Hadoop's scheduler and up to 14% compared with LATE scheduler.

In this paper we present a scheduling algorithm that assigns tasks of medium size grain. The behavior of the proposed algorithm, called extended latency time (ELT), is compared with the dominant sequence clustering (DSC) algorithm. One of the inputs values required by the ELT algorithm is the maximum number of processors available in the architecture. This value corresponds to the number of processors used by DSC for the same DAG (directed acyclic graph), but ELT uses no more processors than necessary. Although ELT algorithm was specifically designed for assigning fine grained DAGs, results show that the number of processors used by ELT for the assignment of medium grained DAGs is, at most, the same number as used by DSC. When comparing the results for each algorithm in terms of average CPU use, the proposed ELT algorithm is superior in 100% of the cases, so that the performance in terms of CPU use is always lower for DSC.

Based on the analysis of grid computing characteristics, this paper brings up an enterprise grid architecture, analyses the functionality of consisted modules and focuses on session scheduling algorithm of workload management layer. Via analyzing the disadvantages of traditional priority-based FCFS scheduling strategy, this paper makes two ameliorations of the strategy- dynamic priority-based proportional pattern and reservation pattern, which can facilitate the increasing Qos demand of grid users.

We present a novel scheduling framework, called memory operation minimization rotation scheduling (MORS), for scheduling multi-dimensional applications subject to register constraints and other resource constraints. Under such constraints, MORS strives to shorten the schedule length while minimally inserting the load and store operations in the schedule to reduce the register requirement pressure. Experiments show that our approach is useful for reducing the schedule length without violating the register constraint of a target machine. Furthermore, the average reduction in the schedule length produced by these experiments reaches 36.6%.

The emergence of new data services in 3G networks is driving the support of advanced content-based billing mechanisms whose unique characteristics require that the OCS (online charging system) provide relative differentiated services based on different contents. The OCS can be modeled by the PDD (proportional delay differentiation) structure and it aims to maintain the prespecified mean system response-time delay ratios between different classes of requests. A novel request scheduling algorithm is proposed in this paper. The basic idea is that one of the requests from all classes of service queues is chosen with some priority probability which is based on the system queue-length, the request arrival rate, and the preassigned delay differentiation parameter. The experimental results show that this new algorithm significantly outperforms some other traditional PDD scheduling ones when request service delays increase and vary greatly from each other. Furthermore, it can efficiently meet 6 QoS requirements proposed in this paper.

Because of the best-effort network, the QoS of video transmission can't be gotten well guarantee. With the development of network, the video applications based on Internet are growing rapidly. The real-time video applications become popular. Because of the complexity of the network and real-time stream video on demand, the scheduling algorithm has great influence on the QoS. In this paper, a scheduling algorithm based on real-time stream video, QFEC (QoS based on FEC) algorithm is proposed, associated the FEC and Kalman filter theories. According to the status of the receiver, the sending rate is adapted automatically by Kalman filter. The state of the scheduling algorithm is analyzed. This algorithm can maintain the continuity of the real-time video transmission. The simulation results are given, which indicate the scheduling algorithm can provide good video service.

Time-to-expiration, unsent data size, and location-dependent channel capacity and errors are three key factors for fairness service and real-time scheduling in wireless networks. This paper presents a real-time bandwidth allocation (RTBA) algorithm which considers the three factors by a weighting factor H for real-time traffic fairly in WCDMA. Because IP will potentially become a common network layer protocol over all radio access networks, the RTBA algorithm is designed mainly in the IP layer. It also couples the packet scheduling in both IP and radio link layers to reduce overhead and possibly could achieve better performance for the whole system. To optimize the bandwidth allocation for good channels, we also propose simple and historical predictions for channel conditions in the function H. Simulation results show that the RTBA algorithm reduces the data dropping rate significantly when comparing to the earliest due date (EDD) algorithm. The simple and historical prediction methods are also very close to the real wireless situation.

Consideration is given to the scheduling problem for avoiding output conflicts in time-division multiplex (TDM) switching systems. In many applications, if a source transmits a packet to a destination in a frame, it is highly probable that it will also transmit another packet to the same destination in the next frame. So it is not necessary to schedule incoming packets for every frame if all the switching patterns for the nearest scheduled frame can be preserved and the patterns updated appropriately according to changes in traffic demand. An adaptive algorithm of a lower time complexity which assigns time slots to packets according to the changes in traffic demands is given. This algorithm has the worst case time complexity O(N/sup 2/L), where L is the TDM frame length and N is the switch size. Simulation results show that the algorithm is efficient for interdependent traffic and for random traffic.< >

High speed downlink packet access system can support wide range of data rate service for diverse QoS. Each user has individual minimum data rate constraint. HSDPA scheduling scheme needs to provide certain data rate service for them as well as maximize the cell throughput. This paper proposes an algorithm based on the Hopfield neural network, called HNNMR, to achieve fast and suboptimal solution of this optimization problem. Some illustrative simulation results present to evaluate the performance of the new algorithm as compared with other strategies.
