On a multi-antenna downlink channel, separation of multiple users by transmit beamforming enables simultaneous transmission from the base station to the users, resulting in high sum throughput. This paper proposes and analyzes a practical algorithm for joint scheduling and orthogonal beamforming, which is enabled by feedback of quantized channel state information (CSI). In this approach, each user quantizes CSI using a codebook comprised of multiple orthonormal vector sets and sends back quantized CSI. Using feedback CSI, the base station jointly selects a set of orthogonal beamforming vectors and schedules a subset of feedback users for downlink transmission such that the throughput is maximized. For moderate to large numbers of users, the proposed algorithm achieves higher sum capacities than the conventional ones.

This paper characterizes the delay region that is quite useful for multi-user packet scheduling. In a quasi-static channel, the optimal delay region is defined as every set of total delay vectors achieved by some scheduling policies when there are no further packet arrivals. Each user's total delay is equivalent to the amount of time until that user's queue backlog is cleared. The optimal delay region shows the fundamental limit on each user's achievable queueing delay and describes the trade-off among the users in terms of queueing delay when different scheduling policies are applied. In addition, the concept of the delay region is shown to be extendable to each packet's average delay as well as total delay.

Run-time reconfigurable computing extends the classic role of FPGAs towards processing elements which feature multitasking similar to a micro processor. The main advantage of this usage is based on the granularity of the reprogrammable device which can be optimally adapted to each task that has to be executed. Hence, scheduling for such a usage scenario becomes apparent, where a set of tasks with their specific area demands and execution time has to be executed. Obviously, the provision of a set of design alternatives for each task will allow for a higher utilization of the FPGA. Nevertheless, it is computational impossible to facilitate all the theoretically achievable design alternatives of one task. Thus, this paper presents an scheduling algorithm that reduces the number of design alternatives that are utilized for a schedule. Furthermore, a scheduling algorithm is presented which achieves optimization in feasible execution time.

The management of supply-chain can be performed using distributed optimization based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which uses the pheromone matrix as the mean to exchange information between the several subsystems. However, ACO can be replaced by the hybrid algorithm Beam-ACO, which fuses Beam-Search and ACO algorithms. This optimization method has proven to be more powerful than ACO algorithms for scheduling problems. Since both use the pheromone matrix to achieve the best solution, this work proposes the implementation of Beam-ACO in supply-chain management. Beam-ACO is used in this paper to optimize the supplying and logistic agents of a supply chain. The distribution system is optimized using the standard ACO algorithm, because Beam-ACO is not suitable for this type of optimization problems. Three different instances of supply-chains have been tested. Results show that the use of Beam-ACO improves the local and global results of the supply chain, and that the distributed optimization paradigm can be applied on supply chains where different agents are optimized by different algorithms.

Propose a novel high level synthesis design flow based on Fuzzy set theory to improve the circuit performance. It treats unscheduled operations as having uncertain schedules, and then applies fuzzy set theory to quantify these uncertainties during allocation. At last synthesis circuit based on concurrent Evolutionary Technique. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the strength of this approach. And the results show good result with our method.

The emergence of high-speed wireless cellular networks such as high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) and 1x evolution data optimized (1xEV-DO) will enhance the support of existing applications and will enable the development of a wide range of heterogeneous "content rich" multimedia applications that have different quality of service (QoS) requirements. However, due to scare wireless resources and high traffic demands, new resource management techniques are needed in order to satisfy the QoS requirements of the different heterogeneous applications and maximize the network capacity at the same time. In this paper, we propose a novel resource management scheme through packet scheduling for high-speed wireless cellular networks. The proposed scheme utilizes utility and opportunity cost functions to satisfy the needs of mobile users and service providers. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness and potential of our proposed scheme.

The processors supporting the dynamic voltage scaling, called by DVS, have a feature that practically operates with discrete frequency and voltage levels. Almost of DVS algorithms select the smallest frequency level greater than the computed ideal level. Thus the system wastes a computational resource due to under-utilization. In this paper, we present an approach that the task executes its job under two adjacent discrete frequency levels, if possible, instead of the scaling factor computed by on-line dynamic voltage scaling(OLDVS) under the ideal level. This approach combines discrete DVS feature with OLDVS. So, each task can divide the given time budgets into two parts. Then the task executes its job at the lower frequency/voltage level in the first part. If the task does not complete until the end of the first part, then the scheduler increases the frequency to complete the remaining computation load with the remaining time budgets. Therefore, it can achieve more energy savings than the original OLDVS while simultaneously preserving timeliness guarantees made by real-time scheduling. Simulation results show that OLDVS provides up to 20% of additional energy savings for Intel PXA250[18] which has four discrete frequency/voltage levels.

We consider optimal allocation of resources to users in a downlink OFDMA system to support heterogeneous applications consisting of both deadline-sensitive (DS) and best- effort (BE) users. Given the user rate-requirements and long- term statistics, the proposed persistent scheduling algorithm allocates the minimum resources to 'just' meet the deadlines for DS packets. The remaining resources are optimally split to maximize a rate objective for BE users. We resort to a greedy- tone allocation algorithm to solve the optimization problem. By considering persistent scheduling instead of instantaneous scheduling, the proposed scheme's complexity and required feedback overhead is significantly reduced, hence a practical algorithm for a real-system.

Buffer insertion ring (BIR) adopts the multiple-channel and multiple-queue to differentiate the traffic with priority to satisfy the requirements of various quality of different services. Different from former analysis of BIR, the main characteristics of performance such as average transfer delays and throughputs under both uncongested and congested scenarios are studied and analyzed in the paper. It has been shown through analyses and simulations that the performance of high-priority traffic could be guaranteed even when congestion occurred on BIR. Simulation results also indicate that by correctly setting parameters of BIR nodes, transfer delay of low-priority traffic could be decreased to achieve lower transfer-delay while the performance of traffic with high-priority is guaranteed.

The process of resource management in local and wide-area distributed systems involves three main phases: resource discovery, resource scheduling and resource allocation. This paper presents a heuristic resource scheduler to cover the scheduling phase in large-scale distributed systems such as Grids. This approach is supported by BLOMERS (balanced load multi-constrain resource scheduler). Our heuristic scheduler implements a Genetic algorithm (GA) in order to improve the scalability of the system, in large-scale Grids the amount of resource is massive but their computational capacity is low. Therefore, selection of computational resources to allocate customers services becomes an NP-hard problem. The paper outlines a performance evaluation by means of experimental tests. The results highlight two aspects: The scheduling system is reliable in real large-scale Grids and BLOMERS heuristic scheduler offers better performance than common selection algorithms when the number of resource requests is increasing.
