Real-time embedded systems have stringent lowenergy consumption requirements. Energy-aware scheduling aims to dynamically manage the available energy at any time selecting the periods of task execution (energy consumption) and the slack-time periods (energy replenishment). In this paper we show that the efficiency of energy-aware algorithms depends on the nature and on the distribution of slack-time periods (periods where the cpu is idle). The lifetime of the battery is better when the slack-time distribution is composed of short values. We show, among the considered energy-aware algorithms, that the ASAP and ST algorithms generate slack-time values suited to guaranty a better lifetime for the battery.
