GameScript: a simplified scripting language for video game development

The process of video game development is complex, requiring proficiency in various technologies for design and implementation, including mastery of game engines and associated programming languages. Defining the behaviors of game elements within the necessary subprocesses poses a significant challenge. This challenge arises partly due to the utilization of general-purpose programming languages, which offer a wide range of options and allow tasks to be approached from different angles. This study introduces GameScript, a simplified scripting language designed for video game development. Based on principles of structured programming and inspired by the While language, GameScript focuses on essential game behavior definitions using a limited set of statements, including IF-THEN-ELSE selection and operations related to game elements to create and destroy them, or to modify properties. By using only numeric variables and simple arithmetic and relational operators, GameScript simplifies data handling and allows for the creation of various arcade games with straightforward syntax. Integrated into a multi-agent system game engine, GameScript has been validated through the successful implementation of diverse arcade game mechanics, demonstrating its effectiveness.

Processing the computational tasks on the devices at the edge can significantly reduce computing load, network transmission load, and response latency. However, programming on these devices is difficult due to the resource-constrained and diversity features. This paper presents a lightweight scripting language, called EveryLite, to address this issue. EveryLite features a new @-expression to access the resources on connected devices via the REST Web interfaces and focuses on the micro tasks with limited complexity in Internet of Things (IoT) systems. We design an elastic runtime environment with a core of 37 KB and some extending modules to address the IoT devices' diversity problem. Experimental results show that the applications developed by EveryLite can be run on heterogeneous devices without modification and consume less memory than those developed by other scripting languages such as Lua and Python.

In modeling and simulation it is often necessary to simulate a model with a variety of settings and evaluate the simulation results with measured data or previously acquired results. As doing this manually is error-prone and ineffective, scripting languages are often used to automate this process. In general a simulation description is tool and model dependent. Therefore, simulating the same model with the same simulation description in different simulation tools or comparing two different models with the same settings is often not easily achieved. We propose an object-oriented, tool-independent, easy-to-use, domain-specific scripting language to describe simulations in an exchangeable and uniform manner. Through this simulation description the simulation settings and the simulation environment can easily be changed while syntax and sequence of commands remain the same. The language is Python based and is designed to be simple, well-readable and intuitive even with marginal programming experience while maintaining Pythons' strength. The language uses an in-house Python library which provides interfaces to different simulation environments (so far Dymola, OpenModelica, Simulink). This library can also be used directly in Python, enabling experienced Python users to keep describing their simulations in Python but benefiting from our efforts to achieve tool-independence.

Determinism is an appealing property for parallel programs, as it simplifies understanding, reasoning and debugging. It is particularly appealing in dynamic (scripting) languages, where ease of programming is a dominant design goal. Some existing parallel languages use the type system to enforce determinism statically, but this is not generally practical for dynamic languages. In this paper, we describe how determinism can be obtained-and dynamically enforced/verified-for appropriate extensions to a parallel scripting language. Specifically, we introduce the constructs of Deterministic Parallel Ruby (DPR), together with a run-time system (TARDIS) that verifies properties required for determinism, including correct usage of reductions and commutative operators, and the mutual independence (data-race freedom) of concurrent tasks. Experimental results confirm that DPR can provide scalable performance on multicore machines and that the overhead of TARDIS is low enough for practical testing. In particular, TARDIS significantly outperforms alternative data-race detectors with comparable functionality. We conclude with a discussion of future directions in the dynamic enforcement of determinism.

This work establishes a tourism venue exhibition system according to the reality of venue distribution, respectively, showing the theme of every venue, appearance and highlight. Firstly, collect relevant material, then use screenshots and photoshop software to modify material and establish a material library, then use flash software to further edit material and components. Finally, the relationship between components is edited, through scripting language to complete the switch and the pop-up function. The design provide certain reference for customer's travel.

Policychain: A Decentralized Authorization Service With Script-Driven Policy on Blockchain for Internet of Things

The decentralization mechanism provides manufacturers and distributors with greater customization and flexibility they need through Internet of Things (IoT)-based industrial collaboration systems (IoT-ICS), but it has brought forward security concerns about the shared data-processing tasks and IoT-based access to services and resources. To address them, we propose a practical blockchain solution to achieve decentralized policy management and evaluation on attribute-based access control (ABAC). By offloading the responsibility of ABAC policy administration and decision making to blockchain nodes, a blockchain-based access control framework, called Policychain, is presented to ensure policy with high availability, autonomy, and traceability. To deliver a solid design, we first present a transaction-oriented policy expression scheme with a well-defined syntax and semantics. The scheme can translate ABAC policies into the blockchain transactions with JavaScript object notation (JSON) syntax and script-based logical expression. We further realize a script-driven policy evaluation by extending blockchain inherent scripting instructions to support attribute acquisition of ABAC entities. Furthermore, we propose a policy lifecycle management scheme from policy creation, renovation, to revocation, in which policies are verified by three validation principles at the transaction level. Finally, we provide sophisticated analysis and experiments to show that our framework is secure and practical for decentralized policy management on ABAC in IoT-ICS.

This paper describes a hardware acceleration of language processing system in scripting programming languages. scripting programming languages are high development efficiency since which is easy to write and high source code readability. On the other hand, embedded software developments take a lot of time and the difficulty level is high. We think that it is good to use scripting programming languages in embedded software developments for the improvement of development efficiency. However, scripting programming languages require many hardware resource such memory and their execution speeds are slower than procedural languages such as C language. Therefore, we propose a hardware acceleration of language processing in scripting programming languages. Hardware acceleration technology can improve the processing performance of scripting programming languages by a pipeline processing. We focus on a scripting programming language 'mruby/c' for embedded software developments. We implemented the hardware which performs the memory management and the instruction decoder in mruby/c. In this paper describes results of implementation of the hardware acceleration and the performance evaluation.

Development of automated tip preparation for atom probe tomography by using script-controlled FIB-SEM

Atom probe tomography (APT) has become a popular technique for microstructural analysis of a wide range of alloys and devices over the past two decades owing to the employment of laser-assisted field evaporation and the development of site-specific tip preparation using a focused ion beam (FIB) with a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) system. In laser-assisted field evaporation, laser irradiation conditions largely influence mass resolution;therefore, recent commercial APT instruments allow strict control of the analysis conditions. However, the mass resolution is affected not only by the laser condition but also by the thermal conductivity of the material and the tip shape. In addition, it is also important to keep the tip shape constant in order to obtain tomography data with good reproducibility since the analytical volume highly depends on the tip shape. In this study, we have developed a method to fabricate the tip with the desired shape automatically by using a script-controlled FIB-SEM system, which has traditionally depended on the skill of the FIB-SEM operator. The tip shape was then intentionally changed by using this method, and its effect on the APT data is also discussed.

Determinism, automation, multi-element, multimodel, multi-computer, multi-user support and neutrality (DAMMMMN) are in our opinion important qualities of domain-specific modeling, and are enablers for highly automated workflows and collaborative modeling. An improvement in any of these qualities eases the development of software using domain-specific models, and enables the design of more sophisticated Model-based Engineering Environments (MBEE). In the context of current programmatic interfaces for domain-specific models, we see room for improvement, and propose Essential Object Query (EOQ) as a generic interface between domain-specific (meta-)models and their users. This interface integrates ACID transactions, complex commands, model queries, reflection abstractions, mass data manipulation, object serialization, automation, notifications, change tracking, and a model database, such that a progranunatic decoupling between models and their usage is achieved. Our interface is agnostic with respect to the programming language(s) and domain-specific modeling framework(s). A prototype is implemented with Python on top of EMF's meta-model ECORE. An example of a signal routing application in an architecture model of a cyber-physical system is used to demonstrate our interface and to evaluate its impact on the individual DAMMMMN qualities.

In order to prepare graduates with "competences to act", vocational education and training require new approaches that enable the future employees to act independently in real work situations. The work-process-oriented curriculum and action-oriented learning could be considered as such a kind of curricula and a pedagogic method. However, how to provide computer-mediate scaffoldings to support online action-oriented learning within a work-process-oriented curriculum is still a challenge. This paper reports our work to scaffold online action-oriented learning by specifying an integrated learning-work process using a scripting language as a formal learning-work process model, called a unit of learning. Such a process model can be interpreted by a language-compatible learning platform to guide and foster the learning-work activities through configuring the learning-work environment dynamically. This paper also reports a case study conducted at a high-level vocational school. The results reveal that the computer-mediated scaffoldings in our process-oriented learning platform are useful to support online action-oriented learning.
