Camouflage patterns consist of complex patterning where the reflectance, as a function of wavelength of each pattern segment is specified. The complexity of camouflage patterns establishes a need to determine camouflage pattern reflectance characteristics as a function of distance to an observer. Different camouflage pattern segments incoherently combine at far field to become a segment-weighted, space-averaged, reflectance spectrum, i.e., the apparent reflectance spectrum of the camouflage pattern. This report demonstrates application of an algorithm for camouflage pattern segmentation, which is for parametric modeling of apparent reflectance spectra.

In process of recognizing Chinese handwritten text, Chinese character segmentation is the key point of the recognition. Therefore, study on how to segment Chinese characters effectively plays an important role in improving the overall performance of Chinese character recognition system. This paper researches and improves algorithms in process of segmenting Chinese handwritten text. First, after image binarization processing and smooth filtering, a multi-step extract algorithm for searching nonlinear row is presented, segmenting text image into character rows. After that, segment single Chinese characters from character rows by modified Viterbi algorithm, stroke analysis and other algorithms. The paper mainly addresses the issues of row overlapping, non-touching character segmentation, touching character segmentation in process of segmentation and emerging of excessive segmentation. The experimental results show that the segmentation algorithm presented in this paper has a high anti-interference capability and a good stability, and its accuracy rate is higher.

Consider the set S of points in the plane consisting of the ordered pairs (i, j), where 1 ≤ i ≤ m ≤ and ≤ j ≤ n. A problem related to the study of segmentation evaluation of visual images concerns finding a permutation σ of the points of S for which the sum is maximal among all possible permutations of S, where d denotes the Euclidean metric. In this note, we show that this maximum is achieved by exactly those permutations of S for which the line joining the points s and σ(s) passes through the point (m+1/2, n+1/2) for all s ∈ S. In fact, the result applies to any point-symmetric set in any dimension for all L^p metrics, 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞. In addition, we provide asymptotic estimates as m and n grow large for the actual maximum value achieved by the above sum. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.

In order to reduce the massive manual intervention involved in the existing segmentation methods for human cross-section slice images, a segmentation algorithm based on the theory of region growing and threshold in normal gray histogram was proposed in this paper, according to the features of slice images of human brain. More exactly, these slice images were initially segmented coarsely by means of the region growing. Then the method of threshold in normal gray histogram was adopted to refine the segmentation. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can segment white matter accurately and effectively.

The article presents segmentation procedure of bone structures of the pelvis area based on a fusion of algorithms. In order to obtain sufficient segmentation results, a custom region growing procedure was combined with multistep Otsu thresholding, edge-detection algorithm, thresholding performed in the CIELab color space and heuristic swarm algorithm. The procedure was tested on the clinical CT data series.

Image segmentation forms the crux of an image processing module. Its main goal is to divide the image into foreground and background with region of interest occupying the former. To achieve quality segmentation particularly in medical imaging, algorithms require user interaction with domain knowledge. Active contours are well established techniques which are prolifically used for segmenting medical images. It falls under the semi automatic method owing to the manual contour initialization. In this paper, we propose a simple, global approach of segmentation using an automatic initialization for active contour methods which has the potential to completely eliminate the human interaction.

segmentation algorithms are well known in the field of image processing. In this work we propose an efficient and polynomial algorithm for image segmentation based on fuzzy set theory. The main difference with the classical segmentation algorithms is in the output given by the segmentation process. Since the classical output for segmentation algorithms give us the homogeneous regions in the image, our proposal is to produce an hierarchical information (in a similar way as a dendrogam does in classical clustering methods) of how the groups are formed in the image, from the initial situation in which all pixels are in the same group to the final situation in which the whole image is divided in the minimal information units.

The image trees described hierarchically organise image segments according to scale, with the coarsest scale, the scale of the image itself as the root of the tree and the finest scales as the leaves. The segmentation algorithm used to form the tree nodes is the sieve, a nonlinear morphological scale-space operator. The trees are a transform, so it is possible to reconstruct the associated image without loss. Scale trees may have more nodes than are needed but the trees may be simplified using a standard statistical test to reduce the number of nodes without affecting the reconstructed image significantly. These simplified trees may be used to generate regions for a stereo algorithm that reduces the errors in the resulting disparity map, particularly within sharp-edged regions with low texture - conditions where conventional methods often fail.

An intelligent offline handwriting recognition system using evolutionary neural learning algorithm and rule based over segmented data points

In this paper we propose a novel technique of using a hybrid evolutionary;method, which uses a combination of genetic algorithm and matrix based solution methods such, as QR factorization. The training of the model is based on a layer based hierarchical structure for the architecture and the weights for the Artificial Neural Network classifier. The architecture for the classifier is found using a binary search type procedure. The hierarchical structured algorithm (EALS-BT) is also a hybrid, because it combines the Genetic algorithm based method with the Martix based solution method for finding weights. A heuristic segmentation algorithm is initially used to over segment each word. Then the segmentation points are passed through the rule-based module to discard tire incorrect segmentation points and include any missing segmentation points. Following the segmentation the contour is extracted between two correct segmentation points. The contour is passed through the feature extraction module that extracts the angular features. after which the EALS-BT algorithm finds the architecture and the weights for the classifier network. These recognized characters are grouped into words and passed to a variable length lexicon that retrieves words that have the highest confidence value.
