In this paper, we first probe into the data characteristics of SVC and analyze their impacts on P2P segmentation algorithms. According to our studies, the equal playback length segmentation (EPLS) algorithm, which is widely used in current SVC-based P2P streaming systems, does not consider the data characteristics of SVC adequately and thus is easy to cause significant degradation of video quality on clients. Then we propose a novel segmentation algorithm named PLCS (playback length changeable segmentation) for SVC-based P2P streaming systems. In the PLCS algorithm, the playback length of chunks in each layer is determined according to the level of importance in combination with the size of the layer. We evaluate the performance of the PLCS algorithm through experiments and simulations. The results show that compared with the EPLS algorithm, the PLCS algorithm can increase the transmission success rate of layers with higher level of importance and thus can improve the video quality on clients significantly, especially in networks with high packet loss rate.

Wheat diseases are harmful to wheat production, but there are few segmentation algorithms that can effectively identify common diseases of wheat leaves. This paper proposes an automatic and efficient solution with K-means clustering. Firstly, the colour image is transformed to Lab colour space from RGB. Clustering is then done by taking the absolute difference between each pixel and the clustering centre in Lab colour space. Unlike traditional methods, our method does not need manual setting for threshold value and is not affected by the selected channel. Our results show that the segmentation accuracy rates for three common diseases (powdery mildew, leaf rust and stripe rust) is more than 90%, which proves the efficacy of our method.

If the pre-processing phase, in optical character recognition systems, is the heart of the recognition process, the segmentation stage is the "aorta" of this heart. This paper introduce a reliable segmentation technique for Arabic handwritten script. Number of techniques like;script height, character width, pen thickness and word/subword gaps are used to design an efficient segmentation algorithm. the algorithm performs diacritics removal, word/subword segmentation, ascender characters segmentation, descender characters segmentation and finally embedded characters segmentation.

a new algorithm for apple disease image segmentation is proposed. A fuzzy factor for weighted balance is introduced in the algorithm to describe the coefficient of spatial constraints between pixels in neighborhood. For enhancing the integrality of neighbor information, the space distance constraints and the spatial gray constraints are considered. The fuzzy factor in the neighborhood is used to keep the image details and reduce the noise. Then the ratio of the mean variance is projected into the kernel space, the space distance between each cluster center and the each data point is used for clustering. The results show that the algorithm is better than the traditional algorithms.

Aiming at realizing cucumber identification and location for cucumber harvesting robot in greenhouse, a segmentation algorithm for cucumber image was presented. Using M (M=2G) component as the threshold segmentation channel, choosing an initial threshold to segment the images. The threshold was dynamic revised based on shape characteristics of cucumber fruits after the initial segmentation threshold was judged. The pixel region which did not belong to fruit was removed by erosion and dilation using structure elements. Final segmentation images were obtained after region marking. Thirty images were tested to verify the correctness of the algorithm, and twenty-three images were segmented correctly with satisfactory results. Experimental results show that the segmentation success rate is 76.7%, and the segmentation effect is acceptable which can be used in greenhouse cucumber identification.

Image segmentation remains one of the major challenges in image analysis and computer vision. Fuzzy clustering, as a soft segmentation method, has been widely studied and successfully applied in mage clustering and segmentation. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is the most popular method used in mage segmentation. However, most clustering algorithms such as the k-means and the FCM clustering algorithms search for the final clusters values based on the predetermined initial centers. The FCM clustering algorithms does not consider the space information of pixels and is sensitive to noise. In the paper, presents a new fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm with adaptive evolutionary programming that provides image clustering. The features of this algorithm are: 1) firstly, it need not predetermined initial centers. Evolutionary programming will help FCM search for better center and escape bad centers at local minima. Secondly, the spatial distance and the Euclidean distance is also considered in the FCM clustering. So this algorithm is more robust to the noises. Thirdly, the adaptive evolutionary programming is proposed. The mutation rule is adaptively changed with learning the useful knowledge in the evolving process. Experiment results shows that the new image segmentation algorithm is effective. It is providing robustness to noisy images.

This paper presents an algorithm for image segmentation in HSI color space with application in cheese quality evaluation. The proposed algorithm uses two approaches to calculate segmentation thresholds for intensity, saturation and hue components- using medians and using average values. For experiments, there are used nineteen trademarks Bulgarian white cheese in brine that are produced of cow milk. The samples of cheese are evaluated by experts according to standard BDS 15612-83 for sensory evaluation of milk and dairy products. It is developed a special Likert scale to support expert's evaluation of broken surface of cheese (structure of this surface gives significant information about process of cheese production). All examined samples of cheese are captured with digital camera and with the proposed segmentation algorithm are processed their images. The ratio of white pixels to all, light gray, dark gray and black pixels to all are used for correlation analysis in comparison with score for broken surface which is given by experts using proposed Likert scale. The ratio of light gray pixels and white pixels to all pixels give the highest correlation coefficient with experts' evaluation and they could be used for objective evaluation of broken surface of white brined cheese.

The processing technology of the arc image is an effective and direct way to study the arc variation. The accuracy of the subsequent arc feature extraction is related to the segmentation of arc image. A two-dimensional algorithm is applied to the image processing of vacuum arc in this paper. The intermediate-frequency vacuum arc has been captured by the high speed camera. The arc images are processed by the dual-threshold adaptive segmentation algorithm. The genetic algorithm is applied to obtain the optimal solution and the parameters of the two-dimensional space. Compared with the traditional subjective threshold, the threshold of this two-dimensional algorithm is self-adaptive. The arc image can be divided into the high energy plasma zone, the contour area and the background area. The results showed that the two-dimensional algorithm proposed in this paper can be used to segment the arc image at the whole combustion stage.

Because the contrast of the image for guiding the highspeed infrared air-to-air missile is low, its signal to noise ratio is poor and the target and its background gray-scale coupling is strong, the paper analyzes the reasons why the threshold value segmentation method and the fuzzy C-means clustering method have the over-segmentation and under-segmentation in segmenting the above type of image. Hence we propose the kernel fuzzy clustering segmentation algorithm based on histogram and spatial constraint, which utilizes the global first-moment histogram of the infrared image to restrict the number of clusters and the clustering center, improves the spatial correlation function that fully manifests the correlations among pixels inside a neighbor domain and reconstructs the membership degree matrix and the clustering central function, thus segmenting the infrared image with the kernel fuzzy clustering algorithm. The results on the experiments on a sequential infrared image show preliminarily that, compared with the traditional threshold value segmentation algorithm, the fuzzy C-means segmentation algorithm and the kernel fuzzy clustering algorithm, the improved algorithm proposed in the paper can reduce entropy segmentation by about 60% on average and increase the correlation degrees among clusters by around 10%, thus enhancing to a certain extent the efficiency and precision for segmenting the fuzzy image whose target gray-scale and background gray-scale are strongly coupled.

Management Information System (MIS) is a factor that supports the decision makings of business organizations. The competition between organizations is tight in terms of services offered these days. Therefore, implementing data analytics might be a unique technique to gain a competitive advantage by offering greater benefits and services to customers. Furry Tales Veterinary Clinic is one of the animal clinics in Quezon City that offers pet services. Some issues encountered by the company involve managing medicine supplies and inefficient customer management. Because of this, an MIS was developed to help the clinic in amending the processes. Health care organization like animal clinics collects, stores, and retrieves a large number of data. This study utilizes data analytics as a business strategic technique to help the Furry tales veterinary clinic in anticipating the needs of the pet owners based on the historical medical data of the pets. A predictive analysis was being used to determine the possible trends or outcomes in the future. The segmentation algorithm for Microsoft Power BI tool was applied to cluster and transform the data collected. Based on the result of evaluation and opinions from the respondents, it was proven that MIS and data analytics could be used as a strategy to help business companies increase their revenue.
