Carcinomas, cancers that originate in the epithelium, account for more than 80% of all cancers. When detected early, the 5-year survival rate is greatly increased. Biopsy and histopathology is the current gold standard for diagnosis of epithelial carcinomas which is an invasive, time-intensive, and stressful procedure. In vivo confocal microscopy has the potential to non-invasively image epithelial tissue in near-real time. This dissertation describes the development of a confocal microscope for imaging epithelial tissues and an image processing algorithm for segmentation of epithelial nuclei. A rapid beam and stage scanning combination was used to acquire fluorescence confocal images of cellular and tissue features along the length of excised mouse colon. A single 1 x 60 mm2 field of view is acquired in 10 seconds. Disruption of crypt structure such as size, shape, and distribution is visualized in images of inflamed colon tissue, while the normal mouse colon exhibited uniform crypt structure and distribution. An automated pulse coupled neural network segmentation algorithm was developed for epithelial nuclei segmentation. An increase in nuclear size and the nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio is a potential precursor to pre-cancer development. The spiking cortical model algorithm was evaluated using a developed confocal image model of epithelial tissues with varying contrast. It was further validated on reflectance confocal images of porcine and human oral tissue from two separate confocal imaging systems. Biopsies of human oral mucosa are used to determine the tissue and system effects on measurements of nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio.

The concept of product life cycle has been applied extensively to a broad range of products and services that remain in use for a long time after they are purchased. Ordinarily, the stage of the product cycle can be determined by tracing the number of products sold during the underlying time unit along the time axis. For digital products and services offered through the Internet, however, life cycle may not be determined in a similar manner because such products and services may be repeatedly installed and uninstalled dynamically over time. Because of this, and the difficulty of acquiring real data, there is little literature on the product life cycle of Internet-related digital products and services. Recently, a Japanese software development company, Fuller, Inc., developed Android smartphone applications that enabled the company to obtain actual data concerning installments and uninstallments of smartphone applications through the legitimate agreement between the company and the users of these applications. Based on the large volume of smartphone applications usage data acquired from Fuller, Inc., this paper aims to fill the above gap by capturing the product life cycle of smartphone applications. Keeping the feature of dynamic installment and un-installment of smartphone applications in mind, the authors develop a segmentation algorithm to classify smartphone applications into three categories based on product life cycle: Class (A), smartphone applications that are active in life cycle; Class (B), smartphone applications that are at the tail of the life cycle; and Class (C), smartphone applications that are already diminishing. Numerical results are presented to validate the proposed segmentation algorithm.

The objective of this study was to design a segmentation algorithm for cutting region feature with polyline. In order to convenience the description, during the segmentation, only 2 intersection points were taken into consideration. According to the order of P1(the first intersection point) and P2(the second intersection point) in the R(region feature) and L(polyline feature), 4 kinds of situations had been taken into account, those were respectively, P2 was always after P1 in the R and L, P2 was after P1 in the R but P2 was before P1 in the L, P2 was always before P1 in the R and L, and P2 was before P1 in the R but P2 was after P1 in the L. segmentation results showed that the algorithm was stable and reliable.

This paper studies the key problems of many Tangka image segmentation algorithms and computational complexity and hard to applies to large scale images segmentation. As a exploratory research of Tangka image, the paper fully took the comprehensive and robustness of algorithm into account. The image segmentation based on saliency area detection had nice translational, multi feature combination and rotational invariance, so we focus on image segmentation. First, design the algorithm based on clustering analysis theory and segments the fuzzy image, especially the fuzzy edge. Then we improve the Tangka segmentation algorithm in order to meet high precision of the application. Meanwhile, Tangka image segmentation offer convenience for research in future, and the final recognition result was satisfy us according to the experiment.

In order to improve the comfort of ill patients admitted during the ICU, reduce the pain caused by various operations, improve the efficiency of data monitoring in ICU and analyze the sample data, this paper puts forward a kind of continuous data analysis algorithm based on online segmentation. Through the statistics of 3000 patients pain data samples in ICU, this paper obtains the ant colony distribution of pain level data, and uses VB software to segment ant data with different coefficients, finally gets the pain level 3D cloud for different levels, which provides a theoretical basis for the study on electronic equipment used in ICU.
