The "Gran Telescopio de Canarias" (GTC) is an optical-infrared 10-meter segmented mirror telescope at the ORM observatory in Canary Islands (Spain). In 2009 it started its scientific operational phase. The GTC control System (GCS) is a distributed object and component-oriented system. In the first developments, the different motion control and sensor systems were quite coupled to the technologies that were used for their implementation: PMAC controller, CANOpen protocol, Modbus protocol, specific drives such as Kollmorgen Servostar S700 or Technosoft IDM680, ESD CAN library, etc. This work has been the result of the evolution of these developments carried out in the field rotation, acquisition and guiding systems of the focal stations updated in recent years. All the knowledge acquired in this context has been reflected in a new design, generalizing concepts such as mechanism, axis, actuator, bus protocol and access library, in such a way that the components of the coordination package are completely decoupled from the technology that is used for the effective control of movement. On the one hand, this design provides simplicity, since the creation of new devices is reduced to specifying a configuration. And on the other hand, it provides stability to the system, focusing the points of variability on the simple extension of new technologies that will be incorporated into the system, such as Ethercat. One of the objectives has been to reduce development costs, going from an effort of more than a year to just a few weeks, in this way we accelerate the transfer to operation of the functionalities that we continue to incorporate into the telescope and export this solution to any other telescope. Examples of this are the future New Robotic Telescope (NRT) and the European Solar Telescope (EST), which will benefit from this new framework and the rest of our system, since they will use the GCS in their developments. Rate responsive pacing is useful to restore the failing cardiocirculatory regulation in patients with chronotropic incompetence. The activity sensor is a non-physiological sensor. Its sensor signal correlates more with the form of exercise than with the work rate. Physiologically sensor controlled systems are using a physiological signal that is closely correlated to the metabolic demand. The sensors are divided into " open-loop" and "closed-loop" systems depending on the implementation of the sensor into the cardiac regulation. The activity and the minute ventilation sensors are "open-loop" systems which do not get any feedback from the heart rate. sensors which measure the QT interval, the inotropy, and the dromotropy are "closed-loop" systems because they get a feedback from the heart rate. In dual sensor systems the "cross checking" and "sensor blending" are useful to optimize the rate response. The several properties of the sensor and its technical condition (the kind and position of the pacing leads) have to be taken into account before selection of the rate responsive pacemaker system. In modern pacemaker devices the holter and exercise testing functions are useful to optimise the rate responsive programming. Algorithms for the automatic optimisation of the sensor parameters may individually improve the rate responsive pacemaker therapy.

In response to the ever increasing pollution levels and depleting fossil fuels, Plug-in Electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle and Electric vehicle (xEVs) technologies are emerging successfully in the automotive industry. The range anxiety issue of the xEVs customers are being addressed through various charging methods. The major hurdle in adoption of xEV is deployment of charging infrastructure. The wireless charging technology is being mechanized as a preferred option in the evolving xEV market. A substantive issue in the commercialization of wireless charging is the misalignment of the vehicle and the charging pad. This paper proposes and discusses a scheme which can significantly adjust the alignment between the coils by the deliberate movement of the receiver coil in response to the magnetic field of the transmitter coil. Deep Learning for Robust Adaptive Inverse control of Nonlinear Dynamic Systems: Improved Settling Time with an Autoencoder

An adaptive deep neural network is used in an inverse system identification setting to approximate the inverse of a nonlinear plant with the aim of constituting the plant controller by copying to the latter the weights and architecture of the converging deep neural network. This deep learning (DL) approach to the adaptive inverse control (AIC) problem is shown to outperform the adaptive filtering techniques and algorithms normally used in adaptive control, especially when in nonlinear plants. The deeper the controller, the better the inverse function approximation, provided that the nonlinear plant has an inverse and that this inverse can be approximated. Simulation results prove the feasibility of this DL-based adaptive inverse control scheme. The DL-based AIC system is robust to nonlinear plant parameter changes in that the plant output reassumes the value of the reference signal considerably faster than with the adaptive filter counterpart of the deep neural network. The settling and rise times of the step response are shown to improve in the DL-based AIC system.

Target area search in the standard Bayesian information-theoretic formulation consists of a repetitive cycle of sensing, recursive Bayesian estimation and motion control. The paper formulates the problem of target area search in the framework of imprecise probability theory using probability sets. The rationale is that the measurement model parameters, such as the probability of detection or the probability of false alarm, are rarely known as precise values. Instead, we adopt probability intervals to express beliefs. The paper formulates the Bayes-like state estimation equations as well as the reward function for motion control. The reward function is based on an uncertainty measure which takes into account both randomness and epistemic uncertainty. & COPY;2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Distributed multi-robot source term estimation with coverage control and information theoretic based coordination

In this paper, we introduce a novel coordination strategy for a group of autonomous robots tasked with estimating the source term of an airborne chemical release. This strategy integrates distributed Bayesian filtering, coverage control, information-theoretic sampling, and proximity constraint handling, forming an efficient and fully distributed coordination protocol. In the proposed framework, each robot employs a consensus-based belief update rule, allowing it to adaptively incorporate information from neighbouring robots to ensure a unified belief across the network. The overall control action is designed to maximise information gain while maintaining network connectivity and minimising communication requirements during movement between sampling points. Extensive numerical simulations are conducted to analyse the performance of the proposed strategy, which demonstrate significant performance improvements compared to popular filtering practices and advanced path -planning strategies. The simulation study is also designed to substantiate the design choices of the proposed coordination strategy and to emphasise its advantages.

Observer control for bearings-only tracking using possibility functions

Bearings-only tracking using passive sensors is important for covert surveillance of moving targets. This paper adopts a mathematical formulation of bearings-only tracking in the framework of possibility theory, where uncertainties are represented using possibility functions, rather than usual probability distributions. Possibility functions have the capacity to deal robustly with partial (incomplete) specification of mathematical models and have been found particularly useful in model mismatch situations. The paper explores the design of reward functions which provide information gain in the context of observer motion control, in the framework of possibilistic recursive filter for bearings-only tracking. Numerical results demonstrate that in the presence of a model mismatch, the proposed framework performs better than the Bayesian probabilistic framework for stochastic filtering and control. Designing and demonstration of misalignment reduction for wireless charging of autonomous electric vehicle

One of the key challenges in the adoption of wireless charging for Electric Vehicles (EVs) is the misalignment between the power pads. This manuscript presents an intelligent alignment of the receiving coil to reduce the magnetic leakage between the coupling power pads. The proposed solution implicates sensors to detect the flux strength at the corners and the middle of the receiver coil. A two-dimensional control technique is used for positioning of the receiver coil controlled through the stepper motor driver and a controller circuit. An array of the Hall effect sensor is installed on the receiver to sense the flux, where sensor receiving the smallest flux will generate the least voltage. Further, the controller sends the command to shift the receiver coil to the direction of the sensor receiving highest flux. This manuscript evaluates and verifies the magnetic flux pattern at the maximum alignment position between the transmitter and the receiver using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on Ansys Maxwell (R). The proposed solution mitigates the flux leakage and improves the efficiency of the wireless power transfer. Theoretical analysis is performed and all the elements of the systems are briefly discussed and explained to develop the proposed system. It is flood damage that causes high percentage of natural disasters that occur in South Korea. Due to the climatic characteristics, rainfall is concentrated during the summer months, causing flooding as excessive water is temporarily discharged smoothly or is not acceptable. As asphalt and cement areas have become larger on the soil due to urbanization, the area of water-proof terrain has also increased proportionately, and Heavy rains are causing more flooding in urban areas. The purpose of this paper is to prevent damage to the underground facilities (Parking lot, etc.) of apartments and buildings through the differential problem language and to remotely control the floodgates by utilizing IoT and wireless communication technology.

This paper introduces the characterization of the measurement uncertainty of large wafer probing in the WR-1.5 (500 GHz - 750 GHz) band. A micromachined WR-1.5 probe with integrated strain sensor is used to measure calibration standard sets at different locations on a 2-inch wafer. Measurement results of the strain sensor assisted WR-1.5 probe using 20 mN contract force are presented. As a comparison, measurement results of the WR-1.5 probe using fixed z-travel and corrected z-travel by z-profiling function provided by the probe station are also presented. Factors that contribute to measurement uncertainty are discussed. In addition, the recommended procedure for terahertz probing without an integrated strain sensor is provided.
