As electricity demand increases day-by-day, power engineers strive to generate and transmit as much power as possible via the preinstalled transmission lines. Series compensation have become popular option in long transmission lines worldwide as it increases the transmission capacity of the system. But due to the use of series compensation (capacitors), transmission line protection becomes complex due to various changes in the line parameters, looking from the point of relay installation such as change in impedance, current and voltage inversion. Existing protection concepts will have to be modified to accommodate these issues. A protection algorithm (PA) based on three signal processing techniques is proposed in this paper for identification and categorization of faults in series compensated electrical transmission network. Study has been done and validated on MATLAB/Simulink environment.

In order to give full play to the advantages of software defined chip hardware architecture, this paper designs a configuration mechanism of software defined chip applied in the field of signal processing. Firstly, this paper designs the configuration line execution iteration of PE (processing Element); Secondly, the iteration times of PE top layer are designed; Thirdly design the number of PEA (processing element array) top-level iterations; Finally, the implementation of matrix multiplication algorithm is used to analyze the hardware design results. Through simulation, the results show that, compared with TI c66x DSP, the clock cycle required to execute the same algorithm is reduced from 15325 to 200; The power consumption is reduced from 1092 mW to 420 mW, and the processing speed and power consumption are better than those of TI c66x DSP.

In this paper, the signal recovery problem of incomplete ocean data based on graph signal processing is studied. In order to properly process the sparse and inhomogeneous data, the ocean data set is defined as a graph signal and its spatio-temporal characteristics is analyzed. The data are analyzed using the spatial smoothness of the signal based on topology, the correlation of time-varying signals over time, and the low-rank nature of the signal. Based on that, a signal recovery optimization problem is established and the optimization problem is solved via the alternating optimization and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) framework. Simulations based on real-world dataset are performed to reveal the performance gain of the proposed approach.

Technology development has made it possible to process brain signals and make decisions based on them. In this case, it is possible to provide the movement of a robot based on brain signals and the design of a suitable controller. This paper presents a control method based on cognitive robotics for mechanical hand movement. In this paper, firstly, the robotic hand is modelled using the fractional order theory, and the mathematical model of the robotic hand is obtained. The user's hand is then placed in different positions, and EEG signals are collected from the user; then, the signals are labelled based on the video and hand movements. Then we recognize and classify different modes of user hand movement using the designed algorithm, including preprocessing, use of Large Laplacian Filter, windowing, feature selection and extraction, and the algorithm used for classification. After that, based on the recognized class and the optimal controller design, the movement of the robotic arm is performed. This paper considers two classes for hand movement; we used fractional order optimal control to design the controller, and we solved the fractional order optimal control by a numerical-analytical method based on the Hamiltonian function and orthogonal polynomials. Finally, we propose a simulation and conclusion.

For the problem of increasing the accuracy of surface imaging by the aerospace radar it would be relevant to use the modern concept of cognitive radars. It is stated in the paper that there is no unified statistical theory for the algorithms synthesis of cognitive radar operation. Taking into account this situation it is proposed to use a mathematical non-linear filtering apparatus as a basic mathematical approach. To test this idea the problem of statistical synthesis of algorithms was stated and its solution was obtained within the criterion of the minimum root mean square error. On the basis of the obtained optimal algorithm a structural scheme of the surface imaging cognitive radar was developed.

Directionality is an essential feature of many real-world networks, but problematic in graph signal processing (GSP) because there is no obvious choice of Fourier basis. In this work we investigate how to port GSP methods from undirected to directed graphs using recent work on graph signal denoising using trainable networks as a case study. We consider five notions of directed Fourier bases from the literature and different approaches for porting, from ad-hoc to conceptual. Our experimental results show that directionality does matter, the importance of a shift operator related to the chosen basis, and which directed Fourier basis may be best suited for applications. The best variant also provides a promising method for denoising signals on directed graphs.

In this paper, a LFMCW radar signal processing system based on FPGA and DSP is designed to detect all kinds of low-slow small targets. This paper mainly focuses on the software design of DSP. At the same time, in order to meet the requirements of real-time processing of the system, aiming at the problem that OSGO-CFAR sorting time is too long in the process of DSP processing, according to the characteristics that the background window of the detection unit before and after CFAR has the same unit, a low complexity sorting algorithm is introduced. The radar signal processing system has been applied to the discerning eye radar of a city.

Emerging technologies in DSP systems require high performance in order to provide optimal performance. In addition, Adaptive Filtering plays a key role in the implementation of a variety of digital signal processing algorithms and it can change their characteristics to achieve desired output. VLSI implementations of these designs are efficiently used for filtering and communication. This project proposes design of Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Adaptive Filter which employs distributed arithmetic (DA) circuits for availing improvement in performance. DA circuits explicitly reduces the number of partial product generation. That is existing Design is modified to reduce the delay and hardware requirements. In modified filter, the number of adders and multipliers are reduced which effectively enhances the speed of computation. The VLSI design for 8, 16, 32 and 64 taps are analyzed and compared. These designs are implemented using Altera Quartus II software with family stratix II and device EP2C70F896C6 and the results are reported. The results shows that the Filter design using distributed arithmetic circuits offers good performance when compared with Conventional method.

Spatial sound acquisition in Higher-Order Ambisonics (HOA) is constrained by hardware complexity and storage space. In contrast, the low order ambisonics (B-format signals) suffers from low spatial resolution. So it is worthwhile to acquire the sound at low order to reduce hardware complexity and storage requirement and upscale to a higher order while reproducing to improve the spatial resolution. In this work, a sparse framework is formulated that efficiently uses the Order Recursive Matching Pursuit (ORMP) algorithm for Multiple Measurement Vectors (MMV) to decompose the low-order encoded signal. Subsequently, the upscaled HOA signal is obtained from the decomposed low-order ambisonics to reproduce the spatial audio with high spatial resolution. The performance of the proposed upscaling method is evaluated using the metrics such as a Mean Square Error (MSE) in upscaled signals and error in the reproduced sound field. The subjective evaluation is carried out using a listening test and compared with state-of-art methods.

In this paper, we improve estimation of the Doppler shift present in signals that originate from multiple wireless digital communication transmitters. We deploy a uniform linear array (ULA) that overhears the frequency band of interest, hence an unauthorized wireless receiver (URx), and propose an algorithm for extracting the symbol duration from the unknown modulated data. The baseband wireless modulated signal is stripped from its data-induced phase shifts, allowing us to calculate high quality estimates of the periodogram, the spectrogram, and the angle-Doppler profile. Performance results show that high quality results without artifacts from digital modulation can be obtained.
