It is shown that a simple deduction engine can be developed for a propositional logic that follows the normal rules of classical logic in symbolic form, but the description of what is known about a proposition uses two numeric state variables that conveniently describe unknown and inconsistent, as well as true and false. Partly true and partly false can be included in deductions. The multi-valued logic is easily understood as the state variables relate directly to true and false. The deduction engine provides a convenient standard method for handling multiple or complicated logical relations. It is particularly convenient when the deduction can start with different propositions being given initial values of true or false. It extends Horn clause based deduction for propositional logic to arbitrary clauses. The logic system used has potential applications in many areas. A comparison with propositional logic makes the paper self-contained.

Mixed convective gaseous slip flows in an open-ended vertical parallel-plate channel with symmetric and asymmetric wall heat fluxes are numerically investigated. Buoyancy effects on developing and fully developed solutions are studied using the simple algorithm. The velocity and temperature fields are examined for different values of Knudsen number, mixed convection parameter and heat flux ratio. It is found that increasing Gr/Re leads to an increase in the heat transfer rate and friction coefficient. Also, rarefaction effects decrease the heat transfer rate and friction coefficient. The friction coefficient decreases with an increase in heat flux ratio.

The governing equations for heat transfer and fluid flow are often formulated in a general formfor the simplification of discretization and programming,which has achieved great success in thermal science and *** on the analysis of the popular general form of governing equations,we found that energy conservation cannot be guaranteed when specific heat capacity is not constant,which may lead to unreliable results.A new concept of generalized density is put forward,based on which a new general form of governing equations is proposed to guarantee energy conservation.A number of calculation examples have been employed to verify validation and feasibility.

On the basis of previous work, the simulation condition of cold store was improved to reduce calculation error. The simple algorithm and Boussineq assumption were used and the turbulent intensity was also set. The numerical simulation results reflected that the temperature distribution was closer to the previous experimental results after using new method. The error between simulation values and experimental values was decreased. The simulation result showed that temperature of corner was highest in the cold store. The temperature change of the cold store in the cooling process could be better predicted by using modified simulation method and the accuracy of numerical simulation of cold store in the cooling process could also be validated.

To get the air distribution in a small cold store, a mini type cold store (4.5 m (1)x3. 3 m (w)x2. 5 m (h)) was referenced. The model of the small cold store was established in the software named GAMBIT and after this the three-dimensional numerical simulation was used. The different simulation result was verified by the experiments. The accuracy of simulation in airflow field in cold stores was studied by comparison of various mesh rezoning, various decoupling methods for airflow speed and pressure. The results showed that 10cm dimensional accuracy was the suitable mesh size for the calculation speed without affecting the simulation accuracy, and the simple algorithm was better for the PISQ algorithms to simulate steady air flow of the cooling process in a cold store without products. It was concluded that there was a large circumfluence in the flow field, the speeds in the center and corner were lower than those in other places. The distribution of flow speed in the horizontal plane had a good symmetrical, however that in the vertical plane was lower than that in the center, but higher upwards and downwards. The study validated 3D CFD simulation technology for the small cold store. The results of the research offered the optimized methods of using CFD and acted as the reference of the simulation model in the cold store.

We propose to use the modern technique of the F-transform in order to show that it can be successfully applied to the image fusion. We remind two working algorithms (SA-the simple algorithm, and CA-the complete algorithm) which are based on the F-transform and discuss, how they can be improved. We propose a new algorithm (ESA-the enhanced simple algorithm) which is effective in time and free of frequently encountered shortcomings.

The effect of the VOF-CSF static contact angle boundary condition on the dynamics of sliding and bouncing ellipsoidal bubbles

The static contact angle is the only empiricism introduced in a Volume of Fluid-Continuum Surface Force (VOF-CSF) model of bubbly flow. Although it has previously been shown to have a relatively limited effect on the accuracy of velocity and shape predictions in the case of large gas bubbles sliding under inclined walls (e.g. Cook and Behnia, 2001), it may have a more determining influence on the numerical prediction of the dynamics of smaller ellipsoidal bubbles which were shown by Tsao and Koch (1997) to bounce repeatedly when sliding under inclined walls at certain wall inclinations. The present paper reports on the influence of surface tension and the static contact angle on the dynamics of an ellipsoidal air bubble of equivalent diameter D-e = 3.4 mm. The bubble Eat-vas and Morton numbers are Eo = 1.56 and Mo = 2 x 10(-11) respectively. The computational results are achieved with a Piecewise Linear Construction (PLIC) of the interface and are reviewed with reference to experimental measurements of bubble velocity and interface shape oscillations recorded using a high speed digital camera. Tests are performed at plate inclination angles theta is an element of {10 degrees,20 degrees,30 degrees,45 degrees) to the horizontal and computational models consider three static contact angles theta(c) is an element of {10 degrees,20 degrees,30 degrees). The static contact angle has been found to have a significant effect on the bubble dynamics but to varying degree depending on the plate inclination. It is shown to promote lift off and bouncing when the plate inclination angle reaches 30 degrees in a way that does not necessarily reflect experimental observations. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. Numerical modeling of ground water flow and contaminant transport in a saturated porous medium

In this paper, numerical modeling and experimental testing of the distribution of pollutants along the water flow in a porous medium is discussed. Governing equations including overall continuity, momentum and species continuity equations are derived for porous medium. The governing equations have been solved numerical using the Finite Volume Method based on collocated grids. The simple algorithm has been adopted for the pressure _ velocity linked equations. In order to validate the numerical results, experimental data from laboratory apparatus are applied and there is a good agreement among numerical results and experimental test. Finally, the main affecting parameters on the distribution and transport of pollutants porous medium were investigated. Results indicate that, the domain of pollution rises with increasing dispersion coefficient and the dispersion phenomenon overcomes on pollutant transfer. Reduction of porosity has decreased the pollutant transfer and increased velocity has result in the increasing pollutant transport phenomenon but has reduced the domain of the pollution.

Finite volume simulation of viscous free surface waves using the Cartesian cut cell approach

The application of the Cartesian cut cell approach in the numerical simulation of two-dimensional viscous free surface flows is described. The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian method is adopted to update the moving free water surface in a semi-Lagrangian scheme, in which a finite volume method of second-order accuracy in space is used for solving the flow field based on an Eulerian description at each time step. The cut cell approach is employed to track the free surface and solid boundaries across a stationary background Cartesian grid covering the whole fluid, air and solid regions. In this approach, the cells full of air and solid are not calculated explicitly, and apart from the fluid cells, cut cells and merged cells are treated separately in terms of corresponding boundary conditions. In order to validate the present numerical method, current flow past a circular cylinder at various low Reynolds numbers and wave sloshing in a rectangular container are tested first. Further numerical results are obtained for the propagation of regular waves and a wave passing over a submerged dike. The model is also applied to the simulation of radiation waves induced by a forced oscillating submerged circular cylinder. The results indicate that the present numerical model using the Cartesian cut cell approach is highly efficient for solving the wave fields, and fully automatic for generating boundary fitted meshes. These features are particularly useful for moving boundary problems in a larger computational domain and with a longer simulation time. Copyright (c) 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
