High Fidelity simulation of Hybrid Systems using Higher Order Hybrid Automata

Hybrid systems are a subset of Cyber-Physical System (CPS), where a physical process (the plant) is controlled by a discrete controller. The controller induces mode switches, which are modelled as guard conditions leading to sudden discontinuities. Correctly capturing sudden discontinuities during simulation is the primary challenge to maintain fidelity. De-facto industry standard tools, such as Simulink and Modelica, have been known to produce incorrect outputs when simulating systems involving complicated guards. For example, transcendental guards leading to the well-known even number of level crossing detection problem or guards leading the system state into the complex plane have been shown to produce invalid results. To tackle this problem we propose Higher Order Hybrid Automata and its compositional execution semantics. Using this semantics a novel numerical simulation approach for hybrid systems is developed. The key idea is to approximate the guard and Ordinary Differential Equations with Taylor polynomials so as to accurately detect zero-crossings induced by the guards. simulation results show that systems with transcendental guards can be simulated using our approach efficiently, while maintaining high simulation fidelity.

This paper presents a simulation algorithm to analyze a type of colored time Petri nets, in which a time interval is associated with each transition. Specifically, we first unfold colored time Petri nets to standard time Petri nets and then develop a simulation algorithm of time Petri nets to realize the simulation of colored time Petri nets. A model of a real system is used to demonstrate and validate our approach.

In this paper an online optimisation approach is proposed which can be used to find an appropriate combined schedule and container assignment in a Network Design Problem under uncertainty. For this, a simulation based approach on a multi-period time window is proposed, moving forward on the time window after each decision made, assuming that the status of the system is updated as soon as the stochastic and unknown elements become deterministic and known. This approach provides new insight and knowledge into synchromodal and multimodal planning problems. The results of the approach are compared to the results of three simpler online optimisation methods and to the solution of the offline approach where all information is known.

Power system transient simulation software such as PSCAD and MATLAB is used as a signal source for a new generation of relay protection signal generators. In the simulation process, the external errors of the system model caused by different simulation algorithms will be generated, so the output signal has larger harmonics distortion. This phenomenon affects the actual value of the data and the accuracy of the experiment. Therefore, a signal detection method based on wavelet theory is proposed. Combined with the total harmonic distortion rate index of voltage and current, a complete detection and reconstruction method of output waveform is established to eliminate the non-source error caused by different algorithms in transient simulation. Tests were performed using simulated signals and the results show the proposed methodology to be feasible.

Physics simulation is an active research topic in games, because without realistic physics, even the most beautiful game feels static and lifeless. Although cloth simulation is not new in computer graphics, high level of details of cloth in video games is rare and mostly coarse due to complex and nonlinear physical properties of cloth, which requires substantial computing power necessary to simulate it in real-time. This paper presents a robust and scalable real-time cloth simulation framework by exploring a variety of modern simulation techniques to produce realistic cloth simulation for games. The framework integrates with OpenCL GPGPU library to leverage parallelism. The final result is an API for games development with enriched interactive environments.

Several stochastic simulation tools have been developed recently for cell signaling. A comparative evaluation of the stochastic simulation tools is needed to highlight the current state of the development. In our study, we have chosen to evaluate three stochastic simulation tools: Dizzy, Systems Biology Toolbox, and Copasi, using our own MATLAB (R) implementation as a benchmark. The Gillespie stochastic simulation algorithm is used in all tests. With all the tools, we are able to simulate stochastically the behavior of the selected test case and to produce similar results as our own MATLAB (R) implementation. However, it is not possible to use time-dependent inputs in stochastic simulations in Systems Biology Toolbox and Copasi. The present study is one of the first evaluations of stochastic simulation tools for realistic signal transduction pathways.

Event cameras are a novel type of vision sensor that offer high temporal resolution, low latency, wide dynamic range, and low power consumption compared to traditional vision cameras. These features enable excellent performance in fast-motion and high-dynamic-range scenarios, making event cameras widely applicable in autonomous driving, robotic vision, and industrial inspection. However, event camera datasets are limited in both quantity and diversity of scenes. To address this issue, existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) models typically employ frame interpolation algorithms to convert low-frame-rate videos into high-frame-rate videos, generate point cloud data, and then fit this data as event images. These SOTA methods often face challenges of semantic discontinuity and information transmission loss due to the intermediate point cloud generation step. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based simulation method that directly generates event stream data from frame images, simplifying the simulation process. Additionally, we introduce an improved loss function that combines global and local evaluations. Comparative experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, highlighting its significance for research on event camera-related algorithms and the development of downstream tasks.

The complex information systems like military information systems have many complex characteristics, such as large-scale, complex interacted, dynamical changing of the structure, lots of concurrent events, and running in many different scenarios like jamming and damaging. DEVS and its extensions have been proven to be promising Modeling and simulation tools for different systems, but the current DEVS extensions cannot perfectly support modeling and simulation of the complex characteristics of the information systems. So an extended DEVS formalism based on the current DEVS extensions is proposed for the purpose in this paper. The algorithms and the M&S environment of the extended DEVS are also proposed. And the case study in this paper shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the research.

It's crucial to simulate the acoustic detection effect timely and accurately between any two positions in the complex undersea environment in a real-time simulation platform. A numerical analysis method of sound ray propagating in complex undersea environment based on the eikonal equation, non-coplanar sound ray and sound velocity gradient vector is presented in this paper. The total undersea concerned information under certain accuracy requirement can be obtained in the algorithm. The multidimensional sound pressure array is established to simulate the whole sound space. The calculated amount for the real-time simulation of the acoustic detection effect is decreased from O (mnu) by the traditional eigenray solution to O (1) (m is the number of the non-layered structures, n is the grid quantity of the local layered structure, u is the number of the iterations in Newton method or Runger Kutta method). The real-time capability is highly improved by the method mentioned above. By comparison, the results of the simulation and the marine measurement are in good agreement. The concept of detection sensitivity is proposed to quantitatively describe the relationship among marine environment, detectors and sound sources. The concept can give good expression of the relationship among the three factors. © 2019 Proceedings of the International Congress on Acoustics. All rights reserved.
