This paper proposes a novel model-free adaptive control approach to restrain system output fluctuation and overshoot (SOFO) for a class of discrete-time nonlinear single-input single-output systems. First, historical input/output sensor data is utilized to online construct an equivalent explicit data model for control design, making the controller model-free. Second, a novel compensation input term including a compensation gain and a signum function is proposed to soften system input, which in turn restrains the SOFO. The signum function is parameterized by incremental output. The controller and adaptive law of the compensation gain are designed according to the discrete-time Lyapunov stability theories. Last, numerical simulations validate that the proposed approach can restrain the SOFO successfully and reduce response time compared with the existing approaches.

This paper modifies the prototype model-free adaptive control (PMFAC) approach in which system output fluctuation and overshoot (SOFO) is easy to occur. Targeting a class of nonlinear discrete-time single-input single-output systems, historical input/output sensor data are utilized to online construct equivalent explicit data model for control design, making the controller model-free. Then, a novel compensation input term including a compensation gain and a signum function parameterized by incremental output is proposed to soften system inputs, which can in turn restrain the SOFO. Numerical simulations and a speed control experiment for a direct current motor verify that the modified approach can restrain the SOFO successfully and reduce response time compared with the PMFAC.

Model Order Reduction Strategy for LTI systems and Application to PID Controller Design

The mathematical modeling of the real-time system results in large-dimensional ordinary or partial differential equations, which are challenging to employ for investigation and control synthesis. Finding a comparable system of the same kind in a lower-order dimension that can maintain the core characteristics of the higher-order system (HOS) is essential. This article discusses a novel technique for HOS's reduced order approximation and control design. The proposed method modifies the Schur method for balanced truncation. The method circumvents the requirement of balancing transformation and steady-state gain (SSG) deviation as required in the truncated model reduction algorithm. The offered technique eliminates the SSG deviation without altering the dynamical behavior compared to the HOS by appending a gain enhancement factor to the numerator polynomial of the reduced system transfer matrix. The offered technique ensures that the reduced system retains the HOS stability, passivity, SSG, and all critical characteristics. The recommended method's findings are compared to the outcomes of recently published work's lower-order models. Further, using the proposed method, the reduced model has been used to design a PID controller for the flexible-missile control model and an automatic voltage regulator system. The controller produced using the simplified model provides almost the exact time domain specifications (TDS) as the controller made using the HOS, and its design is also relatively more straightforward. Step response and TDS assess lower- and higher-order controller performance.

This paper presents a simple decoupled design technique for two-input-two-output (TITO) linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with multiple time-delays. The output of each decoupled system corresponding to each channel's input is controlled by designing a set of stabilizing P and PI controllers based on the Hermite-Biehler theorem. The proposed approach is restricted to the class of TITO LTI systems with multiple time-delays present in the numerator part of each block of the transfer function matrix. An illustrative example is given to demonstrate the performance and effectiveness of the design technique. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

This work proposes an extension of the Smith predictor to design stabilizing controllers for linear time -invariant (LTI) time-delay single-input single-output (SISO) systems with multiple unstable modes. The main contribution of this method is that it simplifies earlier predictor-based control designs for unstable plants. Obtaining accurate and less computational demanding reduced models is a continuous challenge with complex systems. We propose a RNN network structure that can model LTI SISO systems of any order. Using this structured RNN model, a complex system of 598 states is reduced to a 10th order system at 9.04e-6 mean-square-error. SISO 4th order outperformed reported results of other MOR techniques. The RNN network structure is extended to model SIMO LTI of any number of output and any system order. Using this RNN SIMO network, RLC interconnect of 108 states was reduced to a 5th system at 9.1e-4 mean-square-error.

Secure full duplex OFDM wireless communication based on phase relay between the legitimate nodes

This study proposes a scheme to realise secure orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication between two full duplex nodes-node A and node B. If node A wants to send secret messages to node B, node A and node B transmit the training signal to each other to acquire channel state information (CSI) in the first time frame. Node A acquires the phases of the received signal from node B (no need to decode). In the second time frame, node A then sends secret messages to node B with the phases of the modulated signal being added to the random phases of the signal from node B in the previous time frame, i.e node A relaying the phases of the signal from node B. Node B can recover the secret messages from node A, but eavesdroppers cannot because they do not know the CSI of the main channel. The secrecy capacity is irrelevant to the CSI of the eavesdropper channel, which is a big advantage over other schemes. The scheme can guarantee secrecy capacity to be positive in all circumstances and work well for single-input single-output systems. A computation efficient algorithm is presented to optimally allocate power over sub-carriers for secrecy capacity maximisation.

Effect of phase control-based peak-to-average power ratio reduction on multi-input multi-output adaptive modulated vector coding systems

As a solution to high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problems in vector coding (VC) systems, phase control-based methods such as selected mapping (SLM) and partial transmit sequence have been investigated. As described in this study, a phase sequence blind estimation method is presented for PAPR reduction based on phase control in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) adaptive modulated VC systems, where turbo code is employed. On the receiver side, the phase sequence component is estimated using a maximum likelihood method that selects the most likely sequence among all candidate sequences by exploiting soft-output information of the decoder. Computer simulation results show that when the number of candidate sequences in SLM is M = 16, instantaneous power of the transmit signal at the complementary cumulative distribution function of 10(-5) can be reduced by about 4.0 and 3.5 dB for single-input single-output and MIMO cases as compared with the case without PAPR reduction, although almost identical block error rate performance and the same throughput performance as in the case of perfect phase sequence estimation are achieved in an attenuated six-path Rayleigh fading condition.

Iterative learning control: quantifying the effect of output noise

Fixed parameter iterative learning control (ILC) for linear-time invariant, single-input single-output systems subject to output noise is analysed with the intent of predicting the expectation of the underlying 'noise-free' mean square error (Euclidean norm) of the time series on each iteration. Explicit formulae are obtained in terms of the 'lifted' matrix models of the plant. Computational experiments are used to confirm the correctness of the proposed properties. Finally, frequency domain formulae are derived to provide insight into links between plant characteristics, noise spectra and other ILC parameters, and illustrated by application to the inverse-model-based ILC algorithm.
