Given recent algorithm, software, and hardware innovation, computing has enabled a plethora of new applications. As computing becomes increasingly ubiquitous, however, so does its environmental impact. This paper brings the issue to the attention of computer-systems researchers. Our analysis, built on industry-reported characterization, quantifies the environmental effects of computing in terms of carbon emissions. Broadly, carbon emissions have two sources: operational energy consumption, and hardware manufacturing and infrastructure. Although carbon emissions from the former are decreasing thanks to algorithmic, software, and hardware innovations that boost performance and power efficiency, the overall carbon footprint of computer systems continues to grow. This work quantifies the carbon output of computer systems to show that most emissions related to modern mobile and data-center equipment come from hardware manufacturing and infrastructure. We therefore outline future directions for minimizing the environmental impact of computing systems.

In recent years, with the rapid development of smartphone devices and mobile cellular network technology, real-time virtual reality feedback software and games based on mobile phone cameras have developed rapidly. However, current existing real-scene item matching algorithms usually need to rely on Internet connections or require the high-performance computing power of devices to meet the demand. For this reason, this paper proposes a real-scene item registration algorithm based on the SURF algorithm, which has the advantages of good real-time performance, low calculation amount, and easy implementation. It can be adopted and further developed in real-scene software for item recognition and registration used in games and intelligent robots.

Support vector machines (SVM) are mainly used in classification problem, like character recognition, face recognition, pedestrian detection, text classification and other fields. Isolation forest can be used to anomaly detection (outlier detection), which requires relatively small samples from large data sets. SVM has several kernel functions including RBF, linear, polynomial and radial. In this paper, the experiments on different real-world data sets are performed to demonstrate the importance of kernel choice and the corresponding sensitivity of the algorithm. This paper mainly explores the performance of various main kernel functions in different data sets in OCSVM, and compares the final effect of OCSVM and isolation forest in processing the same data set. Furthermore, this paper also compares the OCSVM method using RBF kernel with adaptive boosting.

The main factor of employee comfort in the workplace is the lighting system, where it can provide productivity and reduce stress while doing work if getting enough lighting. In fact, proper lighting is needed to improve the performance of work, increase the appearance of the area and has a positive psychological effect on the occupancy in the building. The increasing number of buildings in Malaysia leads to the difficulty of managing the distribution of the electricity and saving energy usage due to inefficient system for lighting distribution. There are many types of lighting system and these system have different performance in terms of radiated heat, long lifetime, energy efficiency, power consumption and others. Hence, in order to identify the optimal dimming level and energy consumption, this paper present the comparison between light emitting diode (LED) and fluorescent luminaires using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and firefly algorithm (FA). In this study, the comparative results show that the advantages of the PSO algorithm with using LED luminaires, significant energy savings up to 50.4% and fully satisfied the average illuminance value accordance with MS-1525.

GB-MIMO (Ground-Based Multiple Input Multiple Output) radar plays an important role in landslide disaster prevention. Common MIMO radar imaging based on BP (Back Projection) algorithm is slow, and severely affects the real-time performance of deformation measurement. In this paper, a fast imaging scheme applied for GB-MIMO radar is proposed based on a heterogeneous system consisting of CPU (Center Processing Unit) and GPU (Graphic Processing Unit). The signal processing architecture is firstly designed according to the radar imaging principle and algorithm analysis. Then the acceleration technology of GPU is studied with CUDA technology. The results show that the computing speed achieves 30∼35 times in three different echo sizes less than conventional schemes, which proves that the method can meet the requirement of real-time well.

This article discusses the issues of practical implementation of the previously developed algorithms for intelligent tuning of operating frequencies in cognitive radio systems. Two SDR devices of the LimeSDR type were used as a model of the cognitive radio system. An OFDM signal with an adaptive signal-code structure is used as a system signal. Service information about the parameters of the signal-code structure and the number of the frequency channel of the next frame is transmitted in the pilot signal subcarriers. To implement the algorithm, special software has been developed. Experimental studies were carried out with the use of software, where it was shown that the use of an algorithm for predicting the occupancy of frequency channels can reduce the time of operational scanning of the spectrum.

Pedestrian safety is currently one of the most popular and significant issues in the field of traffic safety. The GPS positioning error is recognized as one of the toughest obstacles to improve the current pedestrian collision warning and avoidance system. In this paper, a reliable collision warning system aimed at vulnerable road users is proposed, to detect the risk of traffic collisions and send the necessary warnings ahead of collisions happening. What's more, we also manage to reduce the GPS positioning error in the case of location acquisition with the help of the Kalman filter, which further increases the accuracy of the predicted outputs and warning messages. Finally, we conduct a few simulation tests, the results of which turn out to sufficiently verify the reliability of our system.

To meet the needs of monitoring the indoor environment, a mobile robot that patrols indoors is designed. The mobile robot uses Raspberry Pi equipped with a ROS system as the control core, uses lidar to collect environmental information, and uses various function packages to develop algorithms under the ROS distributed framework. It is based on the Karto algorithm to build maps and uses the A* algorithm and DWA algorithm to realize autonomous navigation. The robot uses a two-wheel independent drive robot chassis to cope with the complex environment. After the indoor environment test, the goal of indoor map construction and path planning can be completed, which is of great significance to the research in the indoor environment in the future.

Digital low-pass filtration is one of the most popular approaches for measurement of the signal root mean square (RMS) parameter. The measurement error for the case of applying this method is time-variable and is determined by filter stopband attenuation. A decrease of this parameter results to a decrease of the static measurement error. But increases the applied filter order results to increases of the filter settling time (which results to addition dynamic measurement error). This is a significant disadvantage, especially in problems where rapid changes of signal parameters occur. The variable nature of the error value over time excludes application of zero adjustment or calibration for reduce it. This article proposes a technique for reducing the RMS measurement error, based on the application of analytical relationship to estimate the error. Analytical relationships have been obtained that make it possible to estimate the RMS measurement error when applying the proposed method. When developing a technique for reducing the error, the case of sinusoidal and polyharmonic signals was considered. With the application of Simulink software, a simulation model of the considered technique was performed. The effectiveness of the applied technique was assessed by comparing simulation results with other techniques (application of post-filtration, combined filter and adaptive filtration).

Despite several decades of working on software quality assurance methods, they still require further investigations. In this regard, it is of paramount importance to detect a process detecting possible software errors with minimum budget and efforts. Search-based software testing(SBST) is an approach to automated software testing and aims to find a suitable alternative to manual testing. SBST is to transform the test problem into an optimization problem and obtain better solutions by searching the problem space. Search-based testing has some disadvantages and advantages. In this paper, considering the significance of SBST in testing, the search-based test challenges were detected from the perspective of the test techniques. This study also suggests different research subjects and provides a guideline for researchers interested in SBST as such the results can be used to compare the existing test techniques, select the best one, and represent the challenges of each technique.
