The indirectly sensing horizon technique of starlight refraction utilizes star sensors to detect refracted starlight under the Earth's atmospheric limb background to achieve high precision attitude and position measurement of satellites. As star images usually can't be obtained in real time, software star image simulation is a quick and easy to implement approach for star identification algorithm validation. This paper firstly introduces the basic theory of starlight atmospheric refraction navigation. Then the atmospheric limb background radiation model and stellar radiation model of starlight refraction sensor are established. On this basis, the process of refraction star image simulation is discussed in detail. According to the given star sensor parameters and simulated radiation data, an example of refraction star image simulation is realized and the offset image coordinates of the refracted stars are analyzed for verification.

This paper presents implementation of rapid control prototype (RCP) for permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) using a digital signal processor (DSP) and the PLECS software. By utilization of auto code generation function in the PLECS, a current vector control algorithm for a PMSM drive system using a DSP as a control processor can be developed more efficiently. In this paper, a background of a model based design (MBD) and real time control are reviewed. Also, commercial RCP products compatible with DSP boards are introduced. At the end of the paper, experimental implementation of RCP for a PMSM drive is presented.

Complex networks are large and analysis of these networks require significantly different methods than small networks. Parallel processing is needed to provide analysis of these networks in a timely manner. Graph centrality measures provide convenient methods to assess the structure of these networks. We review main centrality algorithms, describe implementation of closed centrality in Python and propose a simple parallel algorithm of closed centrality and show its implementation in Python with obtained results.

Current generation of Reconfigurable Match-Action Tables switches are highly programmable, able to support stateful operations and pipeline specifications using languages like P4. Nevertheless, these switches do not offer primitives to support real-valued operations on the data plane, thus requiring support from external servers or middleboxes to perform advanced operations. We introduce InREC, a system that extends the capabilities of programmable switches to support in-network real-valued operations using the IEEE half-precision floating point representation. It relies on decomposing real-valued functions into lookup tables taking into account the RMT model constraints to reach the right trade-off between accuracy and resource usage. InREC prototype on Barefoot Tofino switches demonstrates the efficiency of InREC for in-network computation of different types of operations and its application for in-network logistic regression models used for classification problems. Our evaluation of InREC shows that it is possible to implement complex in-network applications with high accuracy and low latency.

Textual redundancy is one of the main challenges to ensuring that legal texts remain comprehensible and maintainable. Drawing inspiration from the refactoring literature in software engineering, which has developed methods to expose and eliminate duplicated code, we introduce the duplicated phrase detection problem for legal texts and propose the Dupex algorithm to solve it. Leveraging the Minimum Description Length principle from information theory, Dupex identifies a set of duplicated phrases, called patterns, that together best compress a given input text. Through an extensive set of experiments on the Titles of the United States Code, we confirm that our algorithm works well in practice: Dupex will help you simplify your law.

In software Defined Wireless Sensor Network (SDWSN), the Controller Placement Problem (CPP) deals with determining the optimal number of controllers and their location in the network. In recent year, many metaheuristic approaches have been proposed for CPP but their solutions are of high time complexity. Therefore, we propose a novel graph-based clustering approach to solve the CPP in SDWSN. Our proposed algorithm Coverage and Controller Capacity-based Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering (C3HAC) minimize overall network latency. C3HAC aims to determine the optimal number of controllers and divides the network into an equal number of clusters. Moreover, we also formulate multiple objective functions and a fitness function for placement of controllers in each cluster. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-art algorithms in the number of controllers, flow setup latency, and network propagation latency.

This study aims to develop an algorithm for fault localization in distribution feeders to improve the reliability of the medium voltage network by fast and accurate localization during emergency conditions. Matrix row/column operations are performed by the algorithm on a connection matrix of a graphical network model based on the incidence matrix to identify the faulty feeder. Exact and complete fault localization is ensured by the weighted probability method, proposed in this study. The algorithm is designed to coordinate with remote terminal units (RTU) of switching devices. Testing was performed using prototype software and a demonstration network panel. 11kV overhead distribution network of Sri Lanka was taken as the case study. The speed of the process was compared with data collected from utility and effective results were observed.

This demo presents the implementation and usage details of GASSERT, the first tool to automatically improve assertion oracles. Assertion oracles are executable boolean expressions placed inside the program that should pass (return true) for all correct executions and fail (return false) for all incorrect executions. Because designing perfect assertion oracles is difficult, assertions are prone to both false positives (the assertion fails but should pass) and false negatives (the assertion passes but should fail). Given a Java method containing an assertion oracle to improve, GASSERT returns an improved assertion with fewer false positives and false negatives than the initial assertion. Internally, GASSERT implements a novel co-evolutionary algorithm that explores the space of possible assertions guided by two fitness functions that reward assertions with fewer false positives, fewer false negatives, and smaller size.

The study presented in this paper deals with the evaluation of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms to nullify the effect of varying irradiance and temperature inputs given to the solar photovoltaic (PV) powered standalone electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Three different MPPT algorithms, namely perturb and observe (PO), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and cuckoo search (CA) algorithm, are designed and the settling time to reach steady-state by overcoming the effect of variable irradiance and temperature along with partial shading is analyzed. In this analysis, four different conditions are introduced: constant irradiation and constant temperature, which is an ideal case followed by change in irradiation with constant temperature, constant irradiance with temperature change, and finally, both varying irradiance and temperature. Among the algorithms, the CA algorithm tracks to the maximum power of 19.9kW, 12.8kW, 12.3kW, and 19.42kW respectively for all conditions. The analysis confirmed that the CA algorithm remains superior with 24%, 67%, 79%, and 40% of a maximum power compared to others by achieving the steady state at 0.2 seconds.

This paper presents an overview and performance analysis of a software-programmable domain-customizable System-on-Chip (SoC) overlay for low-latency inferencing of variable and low-precision Machine Learning (ML) networks targeting Internet-of-Things (IoT) edge devices. The SoC includes a 2-D processor array that can be customized at design time for FPGA logic families. The overlay resolves historic issues of poor designer productivity associated with traditional Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) design flows without the performance losses normally incurred by overlays. A standard Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) allows different ML networks to be quickly compiled and run on the overlay without the need to resynthesize. Performance results are presented that show the overlay achieves $1.3\times-8.0\times$ speedup over custom designs while still allowing rapid changes to ML algorithms on the FPGA through standard compilation.
