Artifacts preprocessing in EEG is remarkably significant to extract reliable neural responses in the downstream analysis. A recently emerging powerful preprocessing tool among the EEG community is Artifacts Subspace Reconstruction (ASR). ASR is an unsupervised machine learning algorithm to identify and correct the transient-like non-stationary noisy samples. ASR is fully automatic, therefore, suitable for online applications. However, the performance of ASR is strongly dependent on the user-defined hyperparameter k. A poor choice of k might lead to severe performance *** this work, we benchmark the performance of ASR against its parameter k. Toward this goal, we used the Temple University Hospital EEG Artifact Corpus (TUAR), which consists of 310 EEG files recorded in clinical settings from epileptic patients. Remarkably, these files are annotated for artifacts by trained personnel with a high inter-rater agreement score (κ > 0.8). Considering these reliable labels as ground truth, ASR has shown the best performance in artifacts cleaning with k ranging between 20 and 40.

This study implemented YOLOv5 (You Only Look Once) as its algorithm to detect pineapple rind defects using known image processing techniques such as preprocessing and augmentation. Python language was used to integrate the YOLOv5 algorithm, and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was designed to allow the system to communicate with the user. Using the 5MP OV5647 Camera, the software can process source inputs such as image capture and video. The dataset contents follow, where 70% of training data (350) images, 20% of valid (100) images, and 10% of testing (50) images have been used to create the dataset. Additionally, the dataset had undergone preprocessing and augmentation to maximize the convergence rate of the model. As the system has been implemented and tested throughout the 40 images of pineapples that overall contain 20 rind defects and 20 with no rind defects, the trained model can identify pineapple rind defects at a default confidence threshold of 0.60. With that, the proponents obtained an accuracy score of 88.10 % , which can be considered an ideal and capable model for capturing and detecting pineapple rind defects.

One emerging trend in the evolution of sensor technology is to perform Artificial Intelligence (AI) based data processing already on the sensor. The benefits are in terms of reduced upstream communication load or reduced reaction times when the sensor is applied for example, in some time critical control loop. Such developments, however, may easily get in conflict with the equally important requirement of energy efficiency and low power operation. The brain inspired neuromorphic technology may resolve this conflict, if we can put all computation tasks of the sensor on neuromorphic principles, including the communication related processing as well. For this purpose, we need to rebuild the entire communication stack, including information encoding, protocols, radio algorithms on neuromorphic basis. In this paper we show a neuromorphic native design of an end-to-end sensor application and we exemplify such a communication stack with a prototype implementation, where the radio algorithm and protocol components have been replaced by neuromorphic algorithms implemented on a real neuromorphic chip combined with software Defined Radio (SDR) hardware.

The pulse-signaling algorithm (PSA) is proposed for robotics control and communication. By PSA, an operator can send control signals directly to control a robot or a group of robots. No extra equipment is needed in PSA because pulse signals can be generated easily from the operator. Within this paper, the algorithm is considered in three aspects; communication protocol, hardware prototype, and software implementation. PSA protocol is composed of three parts; command code, operand code, and address code. In order to control the desired robot to do the desired work at the desired amount PSA prototype circuit is designed and developed and PSA software is programmed on the designed prototype circuit to realize the algorithm. Some experiments are done to test and evaluate the proposed algorithm.

We have illustrated that the superior asymptotic complexity of linear time suffix sorting algorithms does not readily translate into faster suffix sorting, compared to implementations of supralinear algorithms. We have also resolved the ambiguity surrounding the practicality of the Algorithm KA: it is slower than supralinear approaches on real data. We described several optimizations to the O(n) KS algorithm that significantly improve performance for real world inputs, but still fall short of some supralinear approaches. It is worth noting that most of the optimizations we describe could also be applied to Algorithm KB, which may then outperform the well tuned suffix sorter of Manzini and Ferragina (2004).

This paper presents a new approach to GPS-based navigation which offers significant improvement in antijam capability over traditional designs. The algorithms may be implemented at low cost in software in existing and future GPS receivers using, as inputs, postcorrelation I and Q data and, optionally, raw data from other sensors. Traditional systems are not optimal at high jammer-to-signal (J/S) ratios as a consequence of modular design, use of traditional fixed-gain or gain-scheduled tracking loops, and use of artificial moding logic. The approach described here employs a nonlinear filter that operates efficiently at all J/S levels. Filter gains continuously adapt to changes in the J/S environment, and the error covariance propagation is driven directly by measurements to enhance robustness under high jamming and dynamics conditions. Extended-range correlation may be optionally included to increase the code tracking loss-of-lock threshold under high jamming scenarios. Computational complexity is comparable to an extended Kalman filter. Results of hardware-in-the-loop simulations are presented which demonstrate improvements of 15 dB or more in antijam capability relative to traditional designs.

The adequacy assessment is a topical tool for planning the progress of electric power systems and includes several important calculation steps, namely: the formation of random states, minimization of power shortages, and determination of reliability indicators. Modern software complexes use various types of models for minimizing power shortages, flow, including linear and non-linear models, as well as appropriate methods for solving problems based on these models. In current paper, differential evolution methods are used to solve nonlinear problems, and three options for adapting the known differential evolution algorithms DE, aDE and jDE to solving the problems are considered. An important part of the work is the analysis of existing and proposed options for modifying the mutation process. Which can be used in the above methods. The main changes include an additional check of compliance of mutant vectors with upper and lower constrains, and in case of their discrepancy, three options for correcting mutant vectors are considered. The experiments performed involved 3 and 7 node systems and showed the advantage of the implemented methods using the correction of the elements of mutant vectors in the form of an increase in the speed of solving problems up to 47% relative to the existing correction method. The paper presents a new algorithm for blocking artifacts reduction in low bit rate video. The algorithm addresses the blocking effect on block boundaries, as well as the one inside the blocks. The algorithm works with variety of coding schemes, and does not exploit any information from the coded bitstream. It has extremely low complexity and it is designed to work on a mobile platform in real time. It incorporates two parts: artifacts detection procedure, which decides whether the processing is required for the particular location in the video frame, and artifacts reduction procedure, which performs the actual filtering depending on local image characteristics. The experiments confirm the algorithms effectiveness, as well as its low computational complexity.

Several research works have argued that adaptive beamforming has the potential to realize the high spectral efficiency requirements of next-generation wireless standards, and is especially well-suited for multipath-rich environments such as indoors. Most works have been limited to theory; few works in literature address the practical benefits and realizability of adaptive beamforming. In this paper, we design and implement the first indoor WLAN beamforming system with multi-element array antennas and software radio platforms, that forms a testbed for exploration of practical benefits of beamforming, and evaluation of algorithms for efficient beamforming in diverse environments. In the process of building the system, we identify and address several challenges with practical beamforming that are often ignored in theoretical works. Most importantly, channel estimation for forming the best beam to a user is hindered by oscillator drifts on the transmitter and receiver side that introduce hard-to-isolate phase and frequency offsets from the estimated channel coefficients. We describe these issues and incorporate novel solutions in our system to address them without requiring hardware modifications. We use the system to demonstrate the realizable benefits of adaptive beamforming in a typical indoor office environment.
