An Open and Portable software development kit for Handheld Devices with Proprietary Operating Systems

The availability of modern handheld devices equipped with powerful CPUs, large main and secondary memory, webcam and wireless connection suggests that those devices might also be used to develop sophisticated applications based on computationally intensive algorithms, including for example face recognition, object recognition, character recognition or speech recognition applications. A wide choice of software implementations exists for each of the categories listed above, but almost all of them are designed and developed for PC platform, and porting complex software from PC to the most common handheld platforms can be very time consuming and often inefficient. In this paper we present Nanodesktop, a portable software development kit created to make easier and more efficient the development and the porting of complex software to handheld platforms, in particular those with proprietary operating systems such as the Sony Playstation Portable. Practical examples and real use cases are presented and evaluated Nanodesktop is an open source software and can be freely downloaded for testing and evaluation.

Embedded Middleware and software development kit for Area-Based Distributed Mobile Cache System

A new area-based distributed mobile cache system, a sustainable distributed Geocast technology, enables data caching temporarily in a designated local area using short-range communication technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth. This system needs no infrastructure network and servers. This caching capability and mechanisms are expected to enhance short-range communications as a time-offset communication in a physical world. For that reason, it is sure to accelerate new location-based communication services. This paper reports a developed middleware for a widespread embedded operating system, and a software development kit with an open application programming interface. This middleware is expected to spur third-party developers to produce widely various applications using this proposed platform. Some pseudo-code is provided. Procedures to use this platform are also explained using an implemented geo-location social game(1).

Standardized Telemedicine software development kit with Hybrid Cloud Support

In modern Web development, it is expected that systems operating in the same area can be easily integrated. For common integration points, it is recommended to use a standardized data model and a common interface during the development as this will facilitate further integrations. The use of the cloud infrastructure is increasingly popular in telemedicine, but taking into account the goals, the productivity of the development, the availability of the system and the various regulations, choosing the right solution is not trivial. Inclouded platform consists of numerous currently active telemedical microservices that are working with a common software development kit. This tool provides a standardized data model for document-oriented database systems, has support for public and private clouds by using the classic Data Access Object (DAO) analogy and contains a lot of convenient functions as well. Furthermore, it is found that our solutions can significantly increase development productivity and is confirmed by measurements taken which involved software developers.

In the era of big data lean optimisation, a technologically advanced tool for Gas Turbine (GT) performance analysis is necessary. This need is due to big data taken every 5 min of about 4-years, totalling about 6 million data points (1.5x4 data points) for a single unit of GE 7FA engine of 211MW capacity. The use of actual engine data to quantify degradation using a time-base is limited and challenging. This restraint is due to the influence of varying ambient conditions, compressor inlet conditions with different power settings and loads. This study presents a software development kit (SDK) for real-time processing and evaluation of engine data using different control modes with a statistical method of filtering the data using the inlet guide vane (IGV) opening. The study also examines the analysis of GT health monitoring using time-based machine-generated data. The output of this investigation includes obtaining an average degradation trend line for the power output and heat rate increase as a function of time that serves as the basis for the investigation of the economic analysis. Implementing the SDK has reduced the labour cost, enhanced the accuracy of the analysis, and improved the efficiency of service delivery. The validation of the result with the available literature indicated a fair deviation of 1.4%. The utilisation of data for fuel flow recorded for the standard and extended correction was 24.3% and 16.3% at a range of 9.06-9.43 kg/s and 8.95-9.31 kg/s, respectively. The average percentage of fouling degradation level amounted to a 7.2% reduction of power output and a 1.6% increase in heat rate for one year of operation. (C) 2021 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

End-to-End Security for Distributed Event-driven Enclave Applications on Heterogeneous TEEs

This article presents an approach to provide strong assurance of the secure execution of distributed eventdriven applications on shared infrastructures, while relying on a small Trusted Computing Base. We build upon and extend security primitives provided by Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to guarantee authenticity and integrity properties of applications, and to secure control of input and output devices. More specifically, we guarantee that if an output is produced by the application, it was allowed to be produced by the application's source code based on an authentic trace of inputs. We present an integrated open-source framework to develop, deploy, and use such applications across heterogeneous TEEs. Beyond authenticity and integrity, our framework optionally provides confidentiality and a notion of availability, and facilitates software development at a high level of abstraction over the platformspecific TEE layer. We support event-driven programming to develop distributed enclave applications in Rust and C for heterogeneous TEE, including Intel SGX, ARM TrustZone, and Sancus. In this article we discuss the workings of our approach, the extensions we made to the Sancus processor, and the integration of our development model with commercial TEEs. Our evaluation of security and performance aspects show that TEEs, together with our programming model, form a basis for powerful security architectures for dependable systems in domains such as Industrial Control Systems and the Internet of Things, illustrating our framework's unique suitability for a broad range of use cases which combine cloud processing, mobile and edge devices, and lightweight sensing and actuation.

This paper provides an overview of the Cell Broadband Engine (TM) Architecture (CBEA). The CBEA defines a revolutionary extension to a more conventional processor organization and serves as the basis for the development of microprocessors targeted at the computer entertainment, multimedia, and real-time market segments. In this paper, the organization of the architecture is described, as well as the instruction set, commands, and facilities defined in the architecture. In many cases, the motivation for these facilities is explained and examples are provided to illustrate their intended use. In addition, this paper introduces the software development kit and the software standards for a CBEA-compliant processor.

This paper describes the design and implementation of SAPPHIRE - a novel middleware and software development kit for stream programing on a heterogeneous system of multi-core multi-CPUs with optional hardware accelerators such as graphics processing unit (GPU). A stream program consists of a set of tasks where the same tasks are repeated over multiple iterations of data (e.g., video frames). Examples of such programs are video analysis applications for computer-aided diagnosis and computer-assisted surgeries. Our design goal is to reduce the implementation efforts and ease collaborative software development of stream programs while supporting efficient execution of the programs on the target hardware. To validate the toolkit, we implemented EM-Automated-RT software with the toolkit and reported our experience. EM-Automated-RT performs real-time video analysis for quality of a colonoscopy procedure and provides visual feedback to assist the endoscopist to achieve optimal inspection of the colon during the procedure. Implementation of SMPTE metadata for advanced authoring applications

Following publication of the Final Report of the EBU/SMPTE Task Force for the Harmonization of Standards for the Exchange of Program Material us Bit Streams (TFHS), standards-writing has proceeded within SMPTE W25 and other committees, producing several appl oven standards and many others in draft form. Together, this work comprises the SMPTE Data Model. and Dictionary,, a significant step forward for the industry. This paper describes an implementation of the SMPTE Data Model as a software developers' hit (SDK), discusses applications, and presents performance and scaling data. The TFHS report also identified requirements for system integration and workflow management. The paper addresses this subject by discussing some production workflow scenarios, showing how applications may be built to exploit rite portable API and deliver new levels of system integration, Performance data is presented to show how the API scales to address both small and large applications. In the last several years, it has become common for post-production software applications to make use of pluggable components, particularly Sor graphics and effects processing and in other cases for file format conversion. This is a powerful technique for managing an ever-expanding range of compression, processing and generation facilities;however;previous implementations have suffered by being tied to single application platforms. The paper shows how the facilities of the SMPTE Metadata Dictionary are used in the SDK to provide platform-independent plug-in management.

Augmented Reality (AR) has been used in different application domains. In education, it usually aims to improve the current teaching methodologies and is known as Augmented Learning. Currently, there are several software development kits (SDKs), that requires a qualitative analysis to determine which of these tools are appropriate for use as academic support in face-to-face teaching. This paper evaluates the main SDKs for the development of a marker-based AR software to use in classrooms based on a case study in a public university in Brazil. Our study evaluated the accuracy of detecting markers with different characteristics in each of the SDKs. A comparative analysis is presented. The conclusion is that Vuforia and EasyAR are the better choices among the other selected SDKs for this evaluation.
