Users of Internet-based services are increasingly concerned about the trustworthiness of these services (i.e., apps, software, platforms) thus slowing down their adoption. Therefore, successful software development processes have to address trust concerns from the very early stages of development using constructive and practical methods to enable the trustworthiness of software and services. Unfortunately, even well-established development methodologies do not specifically support the realization of trustworthy Internet-based services today, and trustworthiness-oriented practices do not take objective evidences into account. We propose to use controlled software life-cycle processes for trustworthy Internet-based services. development, deployment and operations processes, can be controlled by the collection of trustworthiness evidences at different stages. This can be achieved by e.g., measuring the degree of trustworthiness-related properties of the software, and documenting these evidences using digital trustworthiness certificates. This way, other stakeholders are able to verify the trustworthiness properties in a later stages, e.g., in the deployment of software on a marketplace, or the operation of the service at run-time.

Web 2.0 has become a powerful means of transmitting information in a number of fields, such as communication, e-commerce, and entertainment. Nowadays, companies and organizations transmit specific information through different mechanisms, such as Web feeds and Web services. These data sources enable third parties to incorporate data from service providers into their own applications. On the basis of this understanding, mashups have emerged as a new approach to develop applications and which combine data and resources from heterogeneous sourcessuch as internal data sources, Web feeds, screen scraping, and Web serviceswith the aim of solving specific needs. Mashup development involves activities such as accessing heterogeneous sources, combining data from different data sources, and building graphical interfaces. These activities restrict the development of these kinds of applications only to experienced computer users. Today, a number of tools and programming languages are used to help carry out some of the aforementioned activities. These tools and programming languages have features enabling the integration of different technologies in order to solve problems such as data management from different data sources and content publication. If this is taken into account, there is a growing need to learn about the features, advantages, and disadvantages of these tools and programming languages in order to select the tool or language that best fits a specific need and a specific level of knowledge and experience in terms of software development. This paper presents a systematic review and analysis of the tools, programming languages, and software development methodologies involved in mashup development in order to learn more about the features and services provided by mashups. Furthermore, this research also explains the qualitative and quantitative evaluation used for the mashup development tools. The evaluation was performed in order to measure not only the usability of

Medical devices are safety-critical systems that must comply with standards during their development process because of their intrinsic potential of producing harms. Although the existing trend of an increasing complexity of medical hardware and software components, very little has been done in order to apply more mature safety practices already present on other industrial scenarios. This paper proposes a methodology to enhance the Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) state-of-art practices from the safety perspective, encouraging the use of safety cases and providing guidance on how to show the correspondent traceability for the development artifacts. We illustrate our methodology and its usage in the context of an industrial Automated External Defibrillator (AED). We suggest that medical device industry could learn from other domains and adapt its development to take into account the hazards and risks along the development, providing more sophisticated justification, as, for example, the impact of design decisions.

Model-driven engineering (MDE) is a popular software development methodology in the software industry. Finding a predefined pattern in a domain-specific model can be requested in MDE. This technique can help in optimizing or refactoring the models or to translate from one language to another one. The goal of the current researching is to create a framework for MDE which can find patterns defined by the users. Performance is a key issue. Using heterogeneous computation system (e.g.: CPU+GPU) is a promising way to increase the performance of the calculation. Therefore, we created a solution based on the OpenCL framework which is one of the most popular heterogeneous platforms. In this paper, the new pattern matching framework and the main steps of its creation are presented. The applied conception consists of two main steps. Firstly, a simpler case study is solved and experiences are collected from the occurring challenges. Secondly, the achieved solution was extended for general pattern matching. In both steps, the core algorithms are implemented according to the test-driven development methodology. To elaborate these steps, a new technique is provided which can be useful in creating any GPU-based model transformation and thus MDE approaches are improved in general.

Situational Method Engineering (SME) is a branch of software engineering which helps develop bespoke methodologies to fit the specific characteristics of the software project at hand. As in software development, SME too involves rigorous Requirements Engineering (RE), so much so that if requirements elicitation and definition is mishandled in any way, methodology development will most likely fail as a result. In this paper, we propose a Feature-driven methodology for SME;in this SME methodology, the requirements of the target methodology are captured as Features. First introduced in the agile FDD (Feature-Driven development) methodology, Features are fully object-oriented and provide all the benefits that the object-oriented paradigm has to offer. Due to the object-oriented nature of Features and the rest of its deliverables, our proposed Feature-Driven methodology development (FDMD) process is fully seamless;this also facilitates the development of tool support for the methodology which is produced by applying FDMD.

The software has been playing an important role in our daily life. A need to come up with sound methodology for developing software becomes vital. There are two methodologies that are used nowadays: the heavy weight and the light weight methodologies. Both methodologies use development models such as waterfall, agile and spiral. The paper presents the two main methodologies used in software industries with their advantages and disadvantages. Two-thirds of the overall primary energy in the world is consumed in cities, resulting in 71 percent of all energy related greenhouse gas emissions. There are many ongoing initiatives to develop strategies to lower the high amount of emissions at the level of cities. However, energy planners face problems that are related to the complexity of the urban energy systems, encapsulating the components of the city together with their properties and interactions that are relevant to the planning process. The complexity of the problem increases given the unavailability of data and their multiple levels of detail (LOD). Therefore, there is a need for adequate tools to support the development of integrated energy strategies, defining specific quantifiable CO2 reduction measures to be implemented at the city level. In this research, we perform an analysis of urban energy planning processes. Then, we extract the general requirements of decision support in this discipline. Then, we perform a general data availability review in cities. This process results in formalizing a modular methodology for the development of urban energy planning support software. This methodology is specific to urban energy planning, it ensures the modularity of the development process, it leads to flexible software that operates under different available LODs of data, and it addresses the problem of data availability at the development stage.

The development of the new software game gave emphasis and importance to the role played by the user discussion group during the development phase;they were sometimes called upon to participate in testing and they contributed to changes that improved the overall software's. Some more concrete methods include discussion groups to stimulate the emergence of new ideas and evaluate the gamification concepts. According to this approach, the web designers of two gamification software projects in e-banking using Mutual Funds and Warrants were encouraged to build the first playable version of the gamified business software. After a live introduction to a group of users, it was requested their opinion in an open questionnaire with six questions, permitting them to identify without restrictions the needs, modifications and opinions. The method has identified a wide range of games characteristics and web design changes, as was expected by both business and customers. In conclusion, the use of the discussion group and open questionnaires were effective methods for the project team, to check preview the perceptions and customer acceptance in adopting the software gamified. In this study, we identified the users' perceptions, resumed in a diagram "the most relevant factors in an e-business game". Our practical contribution is for the web designers and project managers who with this methodology, may check if their software will have good adoption.

Novice Designer Performance Comparison Between the Entity Relationship Event Network and the Event-Based Logical Relational Design Techniques

Previous information systems (IS) research has established that novice database designers experience cognitive overload when faced with many interacting entities in modeling relationships. The authors contend that this problem occurs mainly when events are involved. Results of an initial study provide support that novice database designers indeed have difficulty recognizing and modeling events. They propose two techniques that can address the difficulties encountered by novices when modeling events using the entity-relationship model. Entity-relationship event network (EREN) is a top-down and template-driven technique. Event-based logical relational design (ELRD) is a bottom-up and heuristic-driven technique. Employing the cognitive load theory (CLT) to guide the hypotheses, the authors compare the usability of EREN and ELRD for novice designers. Results indicate that both techniques facilitate satisfactory designer performance when modeling events. Overall, the ELRD technique leads to better designer performance. There is an interaction effect between technique and task complexity as the significant performance advantage of ELRD at the lower-complexity task gets mitigated at the higher-complexity task. The two techniques do not differ significantly on the constructs of behavioral intention to use, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and self-efficacy. Overall, the ELRD technique is recommended for modeling events.
