Supported by the recent advancement of experimental test methods, numerical simulation, and high-speed communication networks, it is possible to distribute geographically the testing of structural systems using hybrid experimental-computational simulation. One of the barriers for this advanced testing is the lack of flexible software for hybrid simulation using heterogeneous experimental equipment. To address this need, an object-oriented software framework is designed, developed, implemented, and demonstrated for distributed experimental-computational simulation of structural systems. The software computes the imposed displacements for a range of test methods and co-ordinates the control of local and distributed configurations of experimental equipment. The object-oriented design of the software promotes the sharing of modules for experimental equipment, test set-ups, simulation models, and test methods. The communication model for distributed hybrid testing is similar to that used for parallel computing to solve structural simulation problems. As a demonstration, a distributed pseudodynamic test was conducted using a client-server approach, in which the server program controlled the test equipment in Japan and the client program performed the computational simulation in the United States. Developing Smart Grids (SG) requires more advanced software engineering tools to keep-up with the growing requirements. Reconfiguration, context-awareness, and security features are becoming necessary for the smart and reliable behavior of future electricity grids. Several software solutions have been proposed to improve the development of such features. However, there is still a need to a software solution that clarify the relation between reconfiguration and context as well as facilitate their development all with satisfying complex needs such the real-time, coordination, and security needs. In this paper, we propose a solution for easy implementation of reconfigurations originated by a context change. We extend an existing software framework dedicated to the development of context-aware reconfigurable applications with mechanisms that handles the contexts in the controller. This paper explores the usage of the said framework as an infrastructure for general purpose SG applications. To show the suitability of the proposed concepts, a formal case of microgrids reconfigurations is conducted.

The "Gran Telescopio de Canarias" (GTC) is an optical-infrared 10-meter segmented mirror telescope at the ORM observatory in Canary Islands (Spain). In 2009 it started its scientific operational phase. The GTC Control System (GCS) is a distributed object and component-oriented system. In the first developments, the different motion control and sensor systems were quite coupled to the technologies that were used for their implementation: PMAC controller, CANOpen protocol, Modbus protocol, specific drives such as Kollmorgen Servostar S700 or Technosoft IDM680, ESD CAN library, etc. This work has been the result of the evolution of these developments carried out in the field rotation, acquisition and guiding systems of the focal stations updated in recent years. All the knowledge acquired in this context has been reflected in a new design, generalizing concepts such as mechanism, axis, actuator, bus protocol and access library, in such a way that the components of the coordination package are completely decoupled from the technology that is used for the effective control of movement. On the one hand, this design provides simplicity, since the creation of new devices is reduced to specifying a configuration. And on the other hand, it provides stability to the system, focusing the points of variability on the simple extension of new technologies that will be incorporated into the system, such as Ethercat. One of the objectives has been to reduce development costs, going from an effort of more than a year to just a few weeks, in this way we accelerate the transfer to operation of the functionalities that we continue to incorporate into the telescope and export this solution to any other telescope. Examples of this are the future New Robotic Telescope (NRT) and the European Solar Telescope (EST), which will benefit from this new framework and the rest of our system, since they will use the GCS in their developments. With the advances of GIS (Geographical Information System), GPS (Global Positioning System) and remote sensing, spatial data has become increasingly available. A significant amount of such data is related to point localities, such as locations of landslides, species occurrences, disease cases, and transportation accidents. There is a great need to predict the potential distribution of these geographical events given their localities and influencing features. In this study, we present a framework that can integrate a range of classification algorithms to predict the geographical distribution of a specific event. The proposed framework is unique in its implementation of a number of procedures that support a variety of geographical data types such as presence-only data, two-class data, and multi-class data. The framework is developed in C++ and based on object-oriented polymorphism, which enables us to add new classifiers to the framework by implementing a number of predefined interfaces. A software framework has been developed for use in parallel boundary element method (BEM) analyses. The framework program was parallelized in a hybrid parallel programming model, and both multiple processes and threads were used. Additionally, an H-matrix library for a distributed memory parallel computer was also developed to accelerate the analysis. In this paper, we describe the basic design concept for the framework and details of its implementation. The framework program, which was written with MPI functions and OpenMP directives, is mainly intended to reduce the user's parallel programming costs. We also show the results of a sample analysis performed with approximately 60,000 unknowns. The numerical results verify the effectiveness of both the parallelization and the H-matrix method. In the test analysis, which was performed using a single core, the H-matrix version of the framework is 17-fold faster than the dense matrix version. The parallel framework program with the H-matrix attains an approximately 50-fold acceleration using 128 cores when compared with sequential computation. (C) 2017 The Authors. ALLIANCE-ROS:A software framework on ROS for Fault-Tolerant and Cooperative Mobile Robots

Programming control systems for mobile robots is complicated and time-consuming, due to three aspects, i.e., the robot behavior coordination, the distributed multi-robot cooperation and the robot software reusability. Subsumption model is a robust control architecture for mobile robots. ALLIANCE model extends it to multirobot systems, which is a fully distributed, fault-tolerant model. Robot operating system(ROS) provides a lot of reusable robot modules. By combining the above three, we propose a software framework named ALLIANCE-ROS for developing fault-tolerant cooperative multi-robot systems with abundant software resources available. We encapsulate the ROS facilities to build the framework *** also use some high-performance plugin-based mechanism to optimize the bottom of the framework. One may use the framework-provided API conveniently to construct single-robot and multi-robot applications with all ROS resources available. This work is demonstrated by three application cases including an autonomous roving robot, a security patrol robot and multiple patrol robots. They are constructed and tested in both the simulated and the real environment. The experimental results validate the usability and availability of ALLIANCE-ROS.

This paper introduces a multi-agent framework for distributed multiplayer game development and simulations. The framework allows the incorporation and experimentation with different strategies of the Players, possibly including intelligent behaviors. The framework consists of a set of generic agent types that must be specialized and configured for a specific game. The framework uses a generic agent that enforces the rules of the game, as well as generic bot-agents that represent the game Players. To support our claims of flexibility and generality we present three simple games implemented on top of our framework: football, battle and labyrinth. Game configuration details are presented as rules imposed on agent actions. We also present simple agents and their strategies to demonstrate how to use the framework in a practical setting.

This paper presents a general-purpose software framework dedicated to the design and the implementation of evolutionary multiobjective optimization techniques: ParadisEO-MOEO. A concise overview of evolutionary algorithms for multiobjective optimization is given. A substantial number of methods has been proposed so far, and an attempt of conceptually unifying existing approaches is presented here. Based on a fine-grained decomposition and following the main issues of fitness assignment, diversity preservation and elitism, a conceptual model is proposed and is validated by regarding a number of state-of-the-art algorithms as simple variants of the same structure. This model is then incorporated into the ParadisEO-MOEO software framework. This framework has proven its validity and high flexibility by enabling the resolution of many academic, real-world and hard multiobjective optimization problems. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Pipelined algorithms implemented in field programmable gate arrays are extensively used for hardware triggers in the modern experimental high energy physics field and the complexity of such algorithms increases rapidly. For development of such hardware triggers, algorithms are developed in C++, ported to hardware description language for synthesizing firmware, and then ported back to C++ for simulating the firmware response down to the single bit level. We present a C++ software framework which automatically simulates and generates hardware description language code for pipelined arithmetic algorithms. (c) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A software framework for real-time multi-modal detection of microsleeps

A software framework is described which was designed to process EEG, video of one eye, and head movement in real time, towards achieving early detection of microsleeps for prevention of fatal accidents, particularly in transport sectors. The framework is based around a pipeline structure with user-replaceable signal processing modules. This structure can encapsulate a wide variety of feature extraction and classification techniques and can be applied to detecting a variety of aspects of cognitive state. Users of the framework can implement signal processing plugins in C++ or Python. The framework also provides a graphical user interface and the ability to save and load data to and from arbitrary file formats. Two small studies are reported which demonstrate the capabilities of the framework in typical applications: monitoring eye closure and detecting simulated microsleeps. While specifically designed for microsleep detection/prediction, the software framework can be just as appropriately applied to (i) other measures of cognitive state and (ii) development of biomedical instruments for multi-modal real-time physiological monitoring and event detection in intensive care, anaesthesiology, cardiology, neurosurgery, etc. The software framework has been made freely available for researchers to use and modify under an open source licence.
