Fused deposition modeling (FDM), one of representative additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, has been widely used for fabricating functional parts with geometrical complexity. However, it has suffered from degraded part quality and low process reliability and controllability. Therefore, it is of much significance to develop a monitoring and diagnosis system for the FDM process to overcome such drawbacks. In this paper, a data-driven FDM process monitoring and diagnosis system is developed by using two types of sensors - an accelerometer and an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. A large number of experimental data, collected from the accelerometers and AE sensor under healthy and faulty process states, are processed to obtain a critical feature - a root mean square (RMS). The RMS values are then used for training the FDM process monitoring and diagnosis models based on a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm and a k-fold cross validation approach. In particular, the SVM-based models for the odd-and even-numbered layers of one FDM specimen are developed. For a real-time validation in a factory floor, the non-linear SVM-based models using the acceleration signals are used for the software development. The diagnosis accuracy is better than 87.5%, and an applicability of the models is verified.

Simulation of occupancy in buildings

Occupants are involved in a variety of activities in buildings, which drive them to move among rooms, enter or leave a building. In this study, occupancy is defined at four levels and varies with time: (1) the number of occupants in a building, (2) occupancy status of a space, (3) the number of occupants in a space, and (4) the space location of an occupant. Occupancy has a great influence on internal loads and ventilation requirement, thus building energy consumption. Based on a comprehensive review and comparison of literature on occupancy modeling, three representative occupancy models, corresponding to the levels 2-4, are selected and implemented in a software module. Main contributions of our study include: (1) new methods to classify occupancy models, (2) the review and selection of various levels of occupancy models, and (3) new methods to integrate these model into a tool that can be used in different ways for different applications and by different audiences. The software can simulate more detailed occupancy in buildings to improve the simulation of energy use, and better evaluate building technologies in buildings. The Expansion ☆ mod o (h⁴) and Computer-Assisted Proof Schemes in the Kontsevich Deformation Quantization

The Kontsevich deformation quantization combines Poisson dynamics, noncommutative geometry, number theory, and calculus of oriented graphs. To manage the algebra and differential calculus of series of weighted graphs, we present software modules: these allow generating the Kontsevich graphs, expanding the noncommutative & x22c6;-product by using a priori undetermined coefficients, and deriving linear relations between the weights of graphs. Throughout this text we illustrate the assembly of the Kontsevich & x22c6;-product up to order 4 in the deformation parameter Already at this stage, the & x22c6;-product involves hundreds of graphs;expressing all their coefficients via 149 weights of basic graphs (of which 67 weights are now known exactly), we express the remaining 82 weights in terms of only 10 parameters (more specifically, in terms of only 6 parameters modulo gauge-equivalence). Finally, we outline a scheme for computer-assisted proof of the associativity, modulo for the newly built & x22c6;-product expansion.

This paper describes a method of test-suite reduction for regression testing of the interaction between two software modules based on a model of module interaction on a test suite and subsequent filtering of the suite using the constructed model. The interaction model is constructed in terms of sequences of interface functions of the modules being integrated called during the software run.

Method for estimating the surface roughness of relief-phase holographic optical elements and its effect on their imaging properties

This paper describes a method for determining the short-wavelength usage limit of relief-phase holographic optical elements (HOEs), caused by their surface roughness. It essentially consists of using data obtained from an atomic-force microscope to determine the shape of the relief profile of an HOE, averaged over the base area, i.e., the scanning area;using this as a basis for determining its rms surface roughness, averaged over the same base area;and then calculating the limiting wavelength in which the HOE can be used. A Data Processing Pipeline for Mammalian Proteome Dynamics Studies Using Stable Isotope Metabolic Labeling

In a recent study, in vivo metabolic labeling using N-15 traced the rate of label incorporation among more than 1700 proteins simultaneously and enabled the determination of individual protein turnover rate constants over a dynamic range of three orders of magnitude (Price, J. C., Guan, S., Burlingame, A., Prusiner, S. B., and Ghaemmaghami, S. (2010) Analysis of proteome dynamics in the mouse brain. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. 107, 1450814513). These studies of protein dynamics provide a deeper understanding of healthy development and wellbeing of complex organisms, as well as the possible causes and progression of disease. In addition to a fully labeled food source and appropriate mass spectrometry platform, an essential and enabling component of such large scale investigations is a robust data processing and analysis pipeline, which is capable of the reduction of large sets of liquid chromatography tandem MS raw data files into the desired protein turnover rate constants. The data processing pipeline described in this contribution is comprised of a suite of software modules required for the workflow that fulfills such requirements. This software platform includes established software tools such as a mass spectrometry database search engine together with several additional, novel data processing modules specifically developed for N-15 metabolic labeling. These fulfill the following functions: (1) cross-extraction of N-15-containing ion intensities from raw data files at varying biosynthetic incorporation times, (2) computation of peptide N-15 isotopic incorporation distributions, and (3) aggregation of relative isotope abundance curves for multiple peptides into single protein curves. In addition, processing parameter optimization and noise reduction procedures were found to be necessary in the processing modules in order to reduce propagation of errors in the long chain of the processing steps of the entire workflow. The SpectrumWare approach to wireless signal processing

The SpectrumWare project is applying a software oriented approach to wireless communication and distributed signal processing. Advances in processor and analog-to-digital conversion technology have made it possible to implement virtual radios that directly sample wide bands of the RF spectrum and process these samples in application software. The elimination of dedicated hardware introduces tremendous flexibility into a wireless communication system. Our approach goes further than the software implementation of traditional signal processing functions. We use processor and network memory to temporally decouple the sample streams from the software modules so that the bulk of the processing can be realized within virtual time programming environments. Decoupling relaxes the temporal constraints on the processing algorithms and their execution. This paper describes the SpectrumWare concept, our experimental approach, and the implications that this approach has for wireless signal processing algorithms.

A procedure of mathematical forecasting of the time of executing complex sets of interrelated software modules (tasks and/or their fragments) in parallel distributed computer systems which takes into account the fact that the time of interprocessor data exchange can be commensurable with that of executing a software module was described for the first time. The times of both interprocessor data exchanges and software module executions were regarded as random variables. Both static planning and dynamic task scheduling were studied. A procedure was proposed for determining with regard for high dimensionality of the mathematical models at hand the upper bound of the number of states of the terminating Markov process describing the model that realizes each user-defined set of interrelated tasks.

The computer-aided fabrication environment (CAFE) is a software system being developed at MIT for use in the manufacture of integrated circuits. CAFE is intended to be used in all phases of process design, development, planning, and manufacturing of integrated circuit wafers. While still under active development, CAFE presently provides day-to-day support to research and production facilities at MIT with both standard and flexible product lines. CAFE provides a platform for work in several active research areas at MIT, including "technology" (process and device) computer-aided design (TCAD), process modeling, manufacturing quality control, and TCAD tool integration. The CAFE architectural framework supports a wide variety of software modules, including both development tools and on-line applications. The key components of the CAFE architecture are the data model and data base schema, the process flow and wafer representations, the user interface, and the application programming and data base interfaces. All CAFE application modules store and retrieve persistent data through a common data base interface layer. Interface "wrappers" provide seamless, transparent integration of external tools and packages which have their own internal data formats.

CAD System for Automatic Design of C1 Compressor Profile

A system for computer-aided design (CAD) for the construction of a C1 compressor profile (CAD_C1) in the integrated Mathcad package is developed. Results of the design of a symmetric initial C1 profile and a curved C1-based profile CAD-C1 are presented. CAD-C1 is constructed according to a modular principle, i.e., it constitutes a complex of information-bound computational software modules. The principal advantage of such a structure of the system is that each module is solved as an individual complete problem and, independently of the other modules, may be altered in the course of development and improvement of the system. Independent connection (complementation) of other modules and systems is also possible. Designs of two variants of curved profiles with identical (practically maximal) turning angle of the flow is implemented in corresponding software modules, using a method of growing thickness of the profile along the normal to the center line of the profile and a method based on nonlinear Hearst transformations. The geometric characteristics of the different design variants are calculated, statistical estimation of the correlation indices of the approximation results is performed, graphical construction of the variant profiles is realized, and the geometric parameters of the profiles are varied along the length of the profile chord. CAD_System C1 may be considered as an autonomous system and as a subsystem.
