The paper describes the software module development for the processing of the experimental data obtained during the tests of running machines with the metal-concrete basic components. To develop the software module, an integrated block algorithm based on the method of computing the machine bed oscillation decrement is proposed. The module allows computing the damping decrement and filing a report according to user-preferred testing result files. The test data for thirteen machines has been processed in the developed module. As a result, a set of report files forming a summary table has been derived. The table data are analyzed and interpreted at the end of the paper. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The article presents an algorithm, based on the method taking into account main interrelations and logic of high speed machining processes. The algorithm is implemented in source environment Microsoft Visual C#, resulting in operating software application. Addition of sustainability-related material is becoming a point of emphasis in engineering education. Freely available modular lessons are one way to quickly effect this incorporation. This research examines the effectiveness of a class format using short prerecorded software modules on lifecycle assessment (LCA) in the classroom setting with associated discussion, primarily drawing from student perspectives in a graduate-level LCA course at Washington State University. Survey results indicated that students generally agreed that the in-class module-discussion format was an effective teaching method. Advantages included that the format was organized and complete, but still concise, allowed for review of material outside of class, and that discussion components furthered understanding and stimulated further thought about the concepts. Key disadvantages included that the modules can get boring, were sometimes too fast-paced, and that questions usually were held until the end of the presentation. Students were happy with the length of modules (about 20min each), but many expressed a desire for additional discussion time. Recommendations for future versions of the course include taking additional breaks during modules for discussion, encouraging students to ask questions at any time, and suggesting that some students print slides to stay engaged with note taking. In the future it is anticipated that these types of narrated modules will make it easier for other instructors to provide more sustainability education in their classrooms.

The meta-MAC protocol is a systematic and automatic method to dynamically combine any set of existing MAC protocols into a single higher layer MAC protocol. We present a proof-of-concept implementation of the meta-MAC protocol by utilizing a programmable wireless MAC processor (WMP) on top of a commodity wireless card in combination with a host-level software module. The implementation allows us to combine, with certain constraints, a number of protocols each represented as an extended finite state machine. To illustrate the combination principle, we combine protocols of the same type but with varying parameters in a wireless mesh network. Specifically, we combine TDMA protocols with all possible slot assignments. We demonstrate that an implementation of the meta-MAC protocol over the WMP rapidly converges to non-conflicting TDMA slot assignments for the nodes.

This paper presents two software modules of the general structure and implementation features of the original software for command and control of the anthropomorphic gripper for robots. The software has three modules: RoboVISION, RoboSIM and RoboCOMMANDER. RoboVISION is a software module for tracing, visualization, shape recognition, measurement, and efficiency evaluation for 3D model generation of objects to grip by an anthropomorphic gripper. It was presented in another paper. This paper describes RoboSIM and RoboCOMMANDER. RoboSIM product is an advanced original software module that aims primarily to reduce achievement time of functional simulation of anthropomorphic grippers. RoboCOMMANDER is an original software module for controlling a three-fingered anthropomorphic robotic hand in both virtual and real environments. The approach is using a multimodal interface based on voice commands, remote manipulation, and smart, remote controlling mobile devices.

Occupants are involved in a variety of activities in buildings, which drive them to move among rooms, enter or leave a building. In this study, occupancy is defined at four levels and varies with time: (1) the number of occupants in a building, (2) occupancy status of a space, (3) the number of occupants in a space, and (4) the space location of an occupant. Occupancy has a great influence on internal loads and ventilation requirement, thus building energy consumption. Based on a comprehensive review and comparison of literature on occupancy modeling, three representative occupancy models, corresponding to the levels 2-4, are selected and implemented in a software module. Main contributions of our study include: (1) new methods to classify occupancy models, (2) the review and selection of various levels of occupancy models, and (3) new methods to integrate these model into a tool that can be used in different ways for different applications and by different audiences. The software can simulate more detailed occupancy in buildings to improve the simulation of energy use, and better evaluate building technologies in buildings. The humanoid robot iCub is a research platform of the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), spread among different institutes around the world. In the most recent version of iCub, the robot is equipped with stronger legs and bigger feet, allowing it to perform balancing and walking motions that were not possible with the first generations. Despite the new legs hardware, walking has been rarely performed on the iCub robot. In this work the objective is to implement walking motions on the robot, from which we want to analyze its walking capabilities. We developed software modules based on extensions of classic techniques such as the ZMP based pattern generator and position control to identify which are the characteristics as well as limitations of the robot against different walking tasks in order to give the users a reference of the performance of the robot. Most of the experiments have been performed with HeiCub, a reduced version of iCub without arms and head.
