A software must do what it intends to do. The quality is core factor in IT Industry and in software products. The quality of the product is main concern of the producer and the main requirement of a customer. software testing is the core activity of quality assurance and very important phase of software development life cycle. Quality of any system is known by testing that product. With the advancement of IT industry many new verification and validation technique are introduced over a time. New trends are well adopted in developed countries like USA, UK etc. But not as well in IT of developing countries like Pakistan. The need of this paper is due to a large number of outsourced projects and also multinational IT companies in Pakistan. Due to high demand of outsourced projects the software testing become an integral part of IT Industry of Pakistan. Our team has collected data about testing in IT Industry of Pakistan which will be benefit for the testers in IT Industry not just in Pakistan but worldwide. These results could be use by researchers to identify the strengths and weakness of testing in IT industry.

A preliminary survey on software testing practices in Khyber PakhtunKhwa region of Pakistan

Conducted to ensure the quality of software products, the software testing process has a great significance in the software development and is the vital step of the verification and validation process. For conforming a software feature to the end user requirements, organizations rely on extensive testing procedures. Despite being the key factor, many of the software development industries/companies do not define/follow a systematic testing process. In this paper, we analyze/learn from the conducted surveys in the past and formulate a questionnaire for a survey in the northern region of Pakistan. To the best of our knowledge, no such survey has ever been conducted in Pakistan. Thus, our work can be used as a baseline for such surveys in other regions or for a survey at the country level. This survey focuses on various aspects of testing methodologies and techniques. With the analyses of the survey findings, we conclude that a testing "maturity" model (based on the cultural/organizational/political values/constraints) should be devised for the improvement of current testing practices to ensure the production of quality software. The survey is regional but the results and knowledge obtained are in line with the related surveys conducted in other regions of the globe.

A replicated survey of software testing practices in the Canadian province of Alberta: What has changed from 2004 to 2009?

software organizations have typically de-emphasized the importance of software testing. In an earlier study in 2004, our colleagues reported the results of an Alberta-wide regional survey of software testing techniques in practice. Five years after that first study, the authors felt it is time to replicate the survey and analyze what has changed and what not from 2004 to 2009. This study was conducted during the summer of 2009 by surveying software organizations in the Canadian province of Alberta. The survey results reveal important and interesting findings about software testing practices in Alberta, and point out what has changed from 2004 to 2009 and what not. Note that although our study is conducted in the province of Alberta, we have compared the results to few international similar studies, such as the ones conducted in the US, Turkey, Hong Kong and Australia, The study should thus be of interest to all testing professionals world-wide. Among the findings are the followings: (1) almost all companies perform unit and system testing with a slight increase since 2004, (2) automation of unit, integration and systems tests has increased sharply since 2004, (3) more organization are using observations and expert opinion to conduct usability testing, (4) the choices of test-case generation mechanisms have not changed much from 2004, (5) JUnit and IBM Rational tools are the most widely used test tools, (6) Alberta companies still face approximately the same defect-related economic issues as do companies in other jurisdictions, (7) Alberta software firms have improved their test automation capability since 2004, but there is still some room for improvement, and (8) compared to 2004, more companies are spending more effort on pre-release testing. What We Know about software Test Maturity and Test Process Improvement

In many companies, software testing practices and processes are far from mature and are usually conducted in an ad hoc fashion. Such immature practices lead to negative outcomes—for example, testing that doesn’t detect all the defects or that incurs cost and schedule overruns. To conduct test maturity assessment (TMA) and test process improvement (TPI) systematically, researchers and practitioners have proposed various approaches and frameworks. Motivated by a recent industrial project in TMA and TPI and wanting to identify the state of the art and practice in this area, researchers conducted a review of both the scientific literature and practitioners’ gray literature (for example, blog posts). The review identified 58 test maturity models and many sources with varying degrees of empirical evidence. The review’s results can serve as an evidence-based overview of and index to the vast body of knowledge in this important, fast-growing area. Using this knowledge, both researchers and practitioners should be able to assess and improve the maturity of test processes.

But Google might also become a benchmark term for a new wave of improved software-testing practices. Numerous emerging elements, beyond Google's sheer size and cachet as the Web's most-used search engine, could make this possible.

[Context:] Mobile devices have become increasingly popular, and mobile applications should guarantee a very high level of reliability and quality. Mobile application testing needs to consider several unique requirements that distinguish it from conventional software testing. [Objective:] Our study aims to establish an overview of the testing practices conducted in mobile companies, to identify weaknesses that can be improved to make the testing activity more effective. [Method:] The survey questions were carefully designed using the Goal/Question/Metric method to provide relevant information to the questions raised in our study. [Results and Conclusions:] Our study outlines that native applications are more common. The testing level more performed is the system test and the positions that perform testing levels and objectives are described. practices related to testing technique selection in the context of mobile applications are highlighted. In the context of this study, Cucumber and Selenium are the testing tools most used to automate testing activity. Some mobile testing characteristics were outlined to understand how the testing in mobile applications run on different devices, how testers deal with the diversity of operating systems that are constantly updated and whether tests are unified to testing a mobile app that runs in different platforms. Furthermore, we report the main challenges faced by testers during the validation of the mobile app.
