The Internet of Things (IoT) has increased the connectivity of systems and fueled the digitalization. However, IoT systems are prone to various security vulnerabilities that may lead to serious incidents that can cause physical harm and financial damage. The security of IoT systems is a major challenge for the their success. If vulnerabilities remain undetected, an attacker can exploit them remotely and thus, gain full access to confidential data, control the connected IoT devices with magnitudes of consequences. This paper presents an approach that exploits information on attacks detected and recorded at runtime to facilitate the development of security patches and uses the information to detect further vulnerabilities. This paper presents work in progress from an ongoing research project.

Regression testing is an important activity that ensures a System Under Test (SUT) still works as expected after changes. Regression testing can be expensive in case of large Test Suites (TSs). Test Suite Reduction (TSR) approaches speed up regression testing by removing redundant test cases. These approaches can be classified as adequate or inadequate. Adequate approaches reduce TSs so that they completely preserve the test requirements (e.g., statement coverage) of the original TSs. Inadequate approaches produce reduced TSs that only partially preserve test requirements. An inadequate TSR approach is appealing when it leads to a higher reduction in TS size at the expense of a negligible loss in fault-detection capability. We defined an inadequate approach for TSR named GASSER (Genetic Algorithm for teSt SuitE Reduction). It is based on a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, NSGA-II (Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II). GASSER seeks to reduce TSs by maximizing both the statement coverage and diversity of test cases, and minimizing the size of the reduced TSs. We implemented GASSER in a Java prototype of a supporting tool and named it as the approach, namely GASSER. In this tooldemo paper, we present such a tool prototype as well as the results of a preliminary empirical study to assess the validity of both the approach and the tool prototype. Robotics competitions have the potential of engaging the future engineers and improving their technical and soft skills. In competitions, students are faced with unique challenges, usually not present in theoretical lectures. CMRE has been organising marine robotics competitions since 2010. Along the years, these have become more complex, including multi-domain cooperation and have become more applicative (from search and rescue to oil & gas). Similarly, there were changes in the scoring methodology and purpose of the competition. While the European Robotics League (ERL) Emergency has been running for a few years with search and rescue scenarios, recently, CMRE has been working on a new competition, the Robotics for Asset Maintenance and Inspection (RAMI), which expands the precise scientific scoring method of ERL Emergency to a metrological evaluation. RAMI competition inaugurates a new concept of having both physical and cascade (based on acquired data) competitions. This enlarges the competition to research communities typically not engaged in marine robotics such as the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. This paper reports on the latest ERL Emergency event (held in 2019) and on the ongoing implementation of the new RAMI competition.

This paper proposes a novel method for the integration of channel-based key generation in a real-time digital voice communication system. For this purpose, a specific hardware platform was developed. To obtain the keys for the cipher, channel-based key generation is used to generate identical keys on both sides of the channel, based on the unique reciprocal channel characteristics. Hamming code key reconciliation drastically reduces the probability of remaining key errors, while a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is used as a final checking mechanism. As a proof of concept, the generated key is used to encrypt as well as decrypt the audio by means of an XOR operation at both sides of the link. Several measurements were performed, showing that new keys are continuously being formed and replaced. Additional measurements also create more insight into the key update rate and key entropy for different parameter settings in the algorithm.

Diesel Generator (DG) sets are used in industries as backup power sources which will automatically start up when grid supply is lost. In order to reduce fuel consumption, DG sets are synchronized with solar power plants dually monitoring the load requirements in industries so that DG sets will work under the optimum condition of 30% load when excess solar power is available. There will be no problem when the load is higher than the solar power supply, solar power is fully consumed and the remaining power required for load is taken from DG. But, if the load is lesser than to the solar power supply after the load is fed using solar power, the remaining power left in solar will reverse back to the DG set which causes tripping and also damages the key components of the generator. To curb this problem, an electronic controller is designed to control the operation of DG and solar plants so that solar power can be used efficiently by using LabVIEW software.

The Low-Rate Denial of Service (LDoS) attack is a new type of Denial of Service attack. Because of its adequate concealment, it is not easy to detect by conventional detection methods. The detection method using a Support Vector Machine (SVM) is feasible, but it has the defect of insufficient generalization ability; consequently, this paper proposes the LDoS attack detection method based on the Two-step Self-adjusting Support Vector Machine (TS-SVM). For the network traffic data, the Discrete Wavelet Transform is used as the feature extraction tool to decompose and reconstruct the network traffic, and the time-domain features such as the mean value of the traffic subband are selected for detection. Two kinds of SVM approaches of self-adjusting are put forward in this paper: to adjust the increasing degree of data dimension, and the other is to adjust the error tolerance. Next, the Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) algorithm is used to realize the two adjustment approaches, ultimately achieving the goal of ascension generalization ability. The detection model constructed has a higher detection effect. To verify the method's feasibility, experiments are carried out in a software Defined Network (SDN) created by the Mininet simulator and Ryu controller. By comparing the proposed method with the traditional SVM method, it is shown that the performance of this method is better than that of the method based on the traditional SVM. By comparing with the traditional LDoS detection methods, it is manifested that the detection accuracy of this method is 92.36%-96.65%, which is higher than the traditional detection methods.

Over the last two decades the Geant4 object-oriented Monte Carlo (MC) simulation toolkit has expanded in its application from high energy physics to multiple additional fields. Geant4 has a number of advantages over other tools, however it requires considerable knowledge of the C++ programming language, as well as a thorough understanding of Geant4’s own libraries and internal procedures. These prerequisites make Geant4 a difficult choice for some research and educational projects. To address this issue we have developed a new tool, grasshopper, which is an open source front end for Geant4. It accepts XML input through the built-in Geant4 GDML parser, allows the user to specify source distributions, and enables rapid learning and fast setup of simulations. In this paper we describe grasshopper, and provide basic benchmarking for a number of nuclear processes as well as validation against prior experimental data. Grasshopper combines Geant4’s power with the convenience of a simple interface that requires ${\mathcal{O}}\left({{\text{hr}}}\right)$ to learn and ${\mathcal{O}}\left({10{}\min }\right)$ to setup a simulation. This would allow for a significant expansion of Geant4’s applicability in various sub-fields of nuclear science, both in research and educational settings.

The scarcity of consumables in health facilities has important implications for the quality of healthcare services, the user's well-being, and costs. The negative impacts associated with the lack of necessary products for the treatment of patients can be minimized by applying the Lean philosophy to stock management in healthcare facilities. Therefore, an easy-to-use virtual Kanban decision support system with low implementation costs was created. The quantitative model includes the calculation of maximum and minimum stocks for each item and makes it possible to determine the level of urgency for placing orders. This model presupposes the classification of items according to the level of demand, providing, depending on that classification, the quantity to be purchased. The inventory optimization system is described and then tested using the items of a first-aid kit.

In this paper, we present a novel max-flow min-cut based algorithm to solve the flow routing problem in the software Defined Network Controller. Routing using traditional shortest path first algorithms often results in bottlenecks that cause performance degradation including higher energy use, reduced throughput, and increased slowdown. Our algorithm uses the max-flow min-cut algorithm to identify potential bottlenecks in order to avoid them in the flow routing decisions. Our simulations show that our max-flow min-cut based algorithm improves the network performance by minimizing the mean wait time by 15.1%, minimizing the mean slowdown by 6.1 %, minimizing the maximum completion time by 9.6 %, and maximize the mean throughput by 18.3 % compared to the Shortest Path algorithm. Explicitly considering congestion in determining routes, such as with our Max-Flow Min-Cut algorithm, is necessary to maximize performance.

Robotic support arms (RSAs) have the potential to allow people with disabilities in both upper limbs and lower limbs greater independence, allowing them to perform the necessary physical activities every day. Disabled people usually use RSAs while sitting in an electric wheelchair (EW). This paper will present the Kinova Gen3 lite assistance robot's fuzzy control for people with personal needs mounted on an electric wheelchair. A controller based on fuzzy logic with the algorithm for formulating fuzzy rules on software and effective control for a 6-DOF robotic arm simulates the robotic arm's operation to perform the following two tasks: serving the user a glass of water and inserting a plug into the socket. The parameters that characterize the robotic arm will be used for the simulator to mimic the actual response. The fuzzy logic controller is applied to the robot arm and then executed on the entire robotic arm to control the desired tasks.
