Over the last decade, e-Learning and in particular Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) needs have been evolving accordingly with more and more demanding pedagogical and technological requirements. As a result, high customization and flexibility are a must in this context, meaning that collaborative learning practices need to be continuously adapted, adjusted, and personalized to each specific target learning group. These very demanding needs of the CSCL domain represent a great challenge for the research community on software development to satisfy. This contribution presents and evaluates a previous research effort in the form of a generic software infrastructure called Collaborative Learning Purpose Library (CLPL) with the aim of meeting the current and demanding needs found in the CSCL domain. To this end, we experiment with the CLPL in order to offer an advanced reuse-based service-oriented software engineering methodology for developing CSCL applications in an effective and timely fashion. A validation process is provided by reporting on the use of the CLPL platform as the primary resource for the Master's thesis courses at the Open University of Catalonia when developing complex software applications in the CSCL domain. The ultimate aim of the whole research is to yield effective CSCL software systems capable of supporting and enhancing the current on-line collaborative learning practices. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc. The HARP experiment has successfully operated in 2001 and 2002. It has collected data for the measurement of hadron production cross section in the range 1.5 GeV/c to 15 GeV/c for incoming protons and pions. A total amount of 420 *** triggers were taken and a large fraction of this data has been analyzed and published. In this paper we will describe the full chain for data recording and analysis with emphasis on the software framework and on the methodologies adopted -to develop it. In particular detailed softwaredesign and code production in C++ were implemented. Unit testing, system testing, and release procedures have been defined. All the HARP software components(on line and offline) have been developed following these specifications including detector calibration and performance studies, data quality and production for data analysis.

Power system resiliency has become a key priority for multiple stakeholders, given an observed increase in severe weather events in recent years and impact on the power distribution grid. Distribution network operators need to assess and analyze the resiliency of the system through carefully designed visualization driven by data and model based analytics. Operators require real-time data visualization of system states and resiliency indicators to make correct operational decisions and to control actions to minimize system impact. This paper describes a resilience-driven visualization tool, the Real-Time Resilience Management System Tool (RT-RMS), developed to assist operators in decision making and resilience assessment. RT-RMS utilizes multi-dimensional resilience metrics, geospatial visualization, and data monitors assessing resilience indicators and other key data points. This paper describes the basis of design, design considerations, open-source software components, and use cases demonstrating implementation and discusses the importance of the presented tool, especially in geographically isolated communities, where resilience is valued more than economic operation. The challenge of handling large amounts of data in a web-based application is analyzed by implementing a three-layered architecture and applying RESTful APIs in the back-end. Case studies are presented to highlight key RT-RMS features.
