We studied source code analysis techniques to predict statically how real programs work and use memory. If we can recognize problems of memory usage in the source code, we are able to prevent them and improve security in the software development phase. The problem detection techniques which are already existed can detect whether the program includes weak code such as Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures, Common Weakness Enumeration. However, these methods are not useful for finding problems in programs that do not include Opensource. because they use hash value or pattern of weak code contained in Opensource. Therefore, we propose a static prediction technique for dynamic memory usage with source code analysis without using techniques such as similarity detection. Also, we present how to calculate the values used for static prediction from the source code.

FinecodeAnalyzer: Multi-Perspective source code analysis Support for Software Developer Through Fine-Granular Level Interactive code Visualization

source code analysis is one of the important activities during the software maintenance phase that focuses on performing the tasks including bug localization, feature location, bug/feature assignment, and so on. However, handling the aforementioned tasks on a manual basis (i.e. finding the location of buggy code from a large application) is an expensive, time-consuming, tedious, and challenging task. Thus, the developers seek automated support in performing the software maintenance tasks through automated tools and techniques. However, the majority of the reported techniques are limited to textual analysis where the real developers' concerns are not properly considered. Moreover, existing solutions seem less useful for the developers. This work proposes a tool (called as FinecodeAnalyzer) that supports an interactive source code analysis grounded on structural and historical relations at fine granular-level between the source code elements. To evaluate the performance of FinecodeAnalyzer, we consider 74 developers that assess three main facets: (i) usefulness, (ii) cognitive-load, and (iii) time efficiency. For usefulness concern, the results show that FinecodeAnalyzer outperforms the developers' self-adopted strategies in locating the code elements in terms of Precision, Recall, and F1-Measure of accurately locating the code elements. Specifically, FinecodeAnalyzer outperforms the developers' strategies up to 47%, 76%, and 61% in terms of Precision, Recall, and F1-measure, respectively. Additionally, FinecodeAnalyzer takes 5% less time than developers' strategies in terms of minutes of time. For cognitive-load, the developers found FinecodeAnalyzer to be 72% less complicated than manual strategies, in terms of the NASA Tool Load Index metric. Finally, the results indicate that FinecodeAnalyzer allows effectively locating the code elements than the developer's adopted strategies.

Detecting software performance problems using source code analysis techniques

Software is evolving rapidly. Many software systems release new versions in short iterations. code changes within such versions may be enhancements, bug fixes, or new features. While preserving some of those changes, the functionality of software may accidentally degrade its performance within a new version when compared to a previous version thus introducing performance regressions. Developers suffer from finding code changes that cause performance regressions especially with a large number of code changes. The cost of detecting performance regressions increases massively as the size of the changes increases. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for automatically identifying potential code changes that cause performance regression from one system version to a subsequent one using source code analysis techniques. Such approach is realized through a prototype tool called PerfDetect. PerfDetect retrieves the changed source code across new and previous version of a specific application's source code. PerfDetect automatically: (a) identifies relevant unit test cases for the changed source code within the new version, (b) compares the execution time of these relevant test cases across the new and previous system versions using various loads to detect performance regressions, and (c) analyzes the root causes for such performance regression within the corresponding source code. In case no relevant unit tests are found as per step (a), automatically generated unit tests for the changed code are used instead within step (a). The proposed approach is evaluated on four open-source applications to assess its ability to detect performance regressions and identify their root causes. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can automatically detect the root cause of performance regression in a shorter time as compared to alternative performance detection approaches. On Accelerating source code analysis at Massive Scale

Encouraged by the success of data-driven software engineering (SE) techniques that have found numerous applications e.g., in defect prediction, specification inference, the demand for mining and analyzing source code repositories at scale has significantly increased. However, analyzing source code at scale remains expensive to the extent that data-driven solutions to certain SE problems are beyond our reach today. Extant techniques have focused on leveraging distributed computing to solve this problem, but with a concomitant increase in computational resource needs. This work proposes a technique that reduces the amount of computation performed by the ultra-large-scale source code mining task, especially those that make use of control and data flow analyses. Our key idea is to analyze the mining task to identify and remove the irrelevant portions of the source code, prior to running the mining task. We show a realization of our insight for mining and analyzing massive collections of control flow graphs of source codes. Our evaluation using 16 classical control-/data-flow analyses that are typical components of mining tasks and 7 Million CFGs shows that our technique can achieve on average a 40 percent reduction in the task computation time. Our case studies demonstrates the applicability of our technique to massive scale source code mining tasks.

Using heuristics to estimate an appropriate number of latent topics in source code analysis

Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is a data clustering algorithm that performs especially well for text documents. In natural-language applications it automatically finds groups of related words (called "latent topics") and clusters the documents into sets that are about the same "topic". LDA has also been applied to source code, where the documents are natural source code units such as methods or classes, and the words are the keywords, operators, and programmer-defined names in the code. The problem of determining a topic count that most appropriately describes a set of source code documents is an open problem. We address this empirically by constructing clusterings with different numbers of topics for a large number of software systems, and then use a pair of measures based on source code locality and topic model similarity to assess how well the topic structure identifies related source code units. Results suggest that the topic count required can be closely approximated using the number of software code fragments in the system. We extend these results to recommend appropriate topic counts for arbitrary software systems based on an analysis of a set of open source systems. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Design pattern recovery through visual language parsing and source code analysis

In this paper we propose an approach for recovering structural design patterns from object-oriented source code. The recovery process is organized in two phases. In the first phase, the design pattern instances are identified at a coarse-grained level by considering the design structure only and exploiting a parsing technique used for visual language recognition. Then, the identified candidate patterns are validated by a fine-grained source code analysis phase. The recognition process is Supported by a tool, namely design pattern recovery environment, which allowed us to assess the retrieval effectiveness of the proposed approach on six public-domain programs and libraries. Automated Game Design (AGD) empowers game designers with languages and tools that automate game design processes. Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) promise to deliver an expressive means for rapidly prototyping and fine-tuning interaction mechanisms that support rich emergent player experiences. However, despite the growing number of studies that center around languages for games and play, few prototypes are ever thoroughly validated and evaluated in practice. As a result, it is not yet well understood what the costs, benefits and limitations of DSL formalisms are. To find out, we investigate to what extent rules, affordances and play can be related by means of source code analysis. We study PuzzleScript, a language and online game engine with an active user community. We reverse engineer PuzzleScript's design and propose ScriptButler, a novel tool prototype and engine for its analysis. To validate our approach, we conduct an empirical study on the quality of the source code by performing an analysis on a curated collection of 95 games. Our results show that ScriptButler can identify bugs and helps relate PuzzleScript rules to game qualities.

Developing a software with high quality is a challenge that is continuously evolving. There are several methods to evaluate the quality in developed software products. In this paper, we evaluated the correlation between two software quality tools: source code analysis (SCA) and software metrics. While both approaches are used to assess one or more attributes of the software, each one has its own goals and characteristics. In this paper, we evaluated the relation and correlation between SCA and software metrics. We used tools to fix warning detected by SCA tools. Software metrics are measured before and after the modifications of SCA recommended changes. Results showed that some specific metrics related to structure, complexity and maintainability metrics can be significantly impacted by SCA modifications. This is expected given the nature of proposed modifications from SCA tools.

source code analysis and manipulation for multilingual types of software applications is an important research topic and its importance is continuously increasing. As utilization of multilingual source code applications is increasing, the demand of multilingual source code analysis is escalating. We discuss the widespread applications of multiple technologies and languages used for development of software systems and difficulties for analyzing the source code of these applications in this paper. We highlight the key challenges and open research problems in the field of multilingual software applications that require the attention of research community.
