Channel coding with side information (CCSI) provides a powerful framework for constructing data embedding codes. As a result, there has been a considerable amount of work done in trying to apply these CCSI codes to the field of image and video watermarking. The CCSI codes that exist in the literature (see Chou, J. et al., 1999; Kesal, M. et al., 2000; Eggers, J. et al., 2001), however, are relatively far from theoretical bounds. Furthermore, these codes, by themselves, are not well-suited for dealing with geometrical distortions which often appear in watermarking attacks. We propose a CCSI code that is closer to the theoretical bounds (within 2.0 dB) than the codes that exist in the literature. In addition, we show how this code construction can be combined with a synchronization code to deal with geometrical distortions.

Understanding and maintaining source code is a critical aspect of software development. source code comments play a crucial role to increase understandability and sustainability. However, creating and maintaining comprehensive comments alongside the source code can be labour intensive and lead to inconsistencies. This study investigates the effectiveness of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques in automating the source code summarization and comment generation processes to alleviate these challenges. We propose a novel evaluation framework that assesses the sufficiency and quality of generated comments in aiding source code comprehension. Leveraging state-of-the-art NLP models, our approach aims to summarize source code functionalities and generate descriptive comments automatically. Furthermore, we introduce a new index proposal tailored to evaluate the adequacy of generated comments in capturing the essence of source code. Software projects with a high Cyclomatic Complexity value need to be explained and well documented as they are projects with high complexity. In this study, different popular repositories were analysed and comments were generated for uncommented functions using natural language processing approaches. With the proposed index, both Cyclomatic Complexity value and productivity were evaluated. The successful results obtained from this study shows that automatic comment generation approaches can be used much more successfully in the near future.

Dramatic progress in multimedia technology within the last decade has brought numerous problems and questions related to the image quality assessment and evaluation. All blocks of imaging chain have an impact on the final image quality perceived by an observer - optical imaging system, sensing, source coding and compression, channel coding and transmission, retrieving, displaying inch printing etc. Therefore the study of image qualitative parameters is crucial at the recent development period of multimedia applied systems. The paper describes and summarizes the impacts of all relevant blocks: Optical Imaging System - description, parameters, Image Sensors and Displays - 2D sampling and 2D aperture, colorimetric aspects, source Image Compression - lossless and lossy techniques, distortions and artifacts, Methodology of Subjective Quality Tests, Objective Quality Criteria, Modeling of HVS, Subjective Image Quality Enhancement. Selected experimental image quality evaluation results based upon our activities under two research projects of the Czech Grant Agency and two research projects of the Ministry of Education are finally presented.

We answer the question, what should we say about V when we want to gamble on X, and what is it worth? If V=X, we show that every bit of description at rate R is worth a bit of increase /spl Delta/(R) in the doubling rate. Thus the efficiency /spl Delta/(R)/R is equal to 1. For general V, we provide a single letter characterization for /spl Delta/(R). When applied specifically to jointly normal (V,X) with correlation /spl rho/, we find the initial efficiency /spl Delta/'(0) is /spl rho//sup 2/. If V and X are Bernoulli random variables connected by a binary symmetric channel with parameter /spl rho/, the initial efficiency is (1-2p)/sup 2/. We finally show how much increase in doubling rate is possible when the sender can provide R bits of information about V and side information S is available only to the investor.

A video transmission system based on combined source coding and multilevel modulation is proposed. For the proposed system, graceful degradation for noisy channels is obtained by finding good index maps between the quantized source coder parameters and the amplitude levels of a multilevel QAM signal constellation. The index maps are designed both for good neighbor properties and for power efficient transmission by using simulated annealing. The performance of the proposed system is comparable to a reference system based on the H.263 coder for high CSNR values, and degrades far more gracefully for low CSNR values.

We analyze the performance of low-density generator matrix (LDGM) codes for lossy source coding. We first develop a generic technique for deriving lower bounds on the effective rate-distortion functions of binary linear codes. This result provides a source coding analog of a classical result due to Gallager for channel coding over the binary symmetric channel. We illustrate this method for the ensemble of check-regular low- density generator matrix (LDGM) codes by deriving an explicit lower bound on its rate-distortion performance as a function of the check degree.

A new class of abstract sensor networks is introduced and analyzed. The object of the sensing is the inter-node channel. Examples of systems which seek to sense the channel include: underwater sonar, radar and optics based atmospheric sensor networks. In these networks, the sensing and communication tasks share the bandwidth resource in addition to the sharing of power resources as has been conventionally studied in the sensor network framework. Bounds on distortion tradeoffs are developed for various protocols, such as source coding analogues of decode-and-forward and amplify-and-forward and simple topologies such as two-hop networks (three node system)

The Arimoto-Blahut algorithm determines the capacity of a discrete memoryless channel through an iterative process in which the input probability distribution is adapted at each iteration. While it converges towards the capacity-achieving distribution for any discrete memoryless channel, the convergence can be slow when the channel has a large input alphabet. This is unfortunate when only a small number of the input letters are assigned non-zero probabilities in the capacity-achieving distribution. If we knew which input letters will end up with a probability of zero, we could eliminate these letters and operate the algorithm on a subset of the input alphabet. The algorithm would converge towards the same solution faster. We present an algorithm which makes use of this fact to speed up the convergence of the Arimoto-Blahut algorithm in such situations.

We tighten the entropy power inequality (EPI) when one of the random summands is Gaussian. Our strengthening is closely related to strong data processing for Gaussian channels and generalizes the (vector extension of) Costa's EPI. This leads to a new reverse EPI and, as a corollary, sharpens Stam's inequality relating entropy power and Fisher information. Applications to network information theory are given, including a short self-contained proof of the converse for the two-encoder quadratic Gaussian source coding problem. The proof of our main result is based on weak convergence and a doubling argument for establishing Gaussian optimality via rotational-invariance.

Parameter adaptation in differential evolution (DE) has been a well-known research topic for decades. However, the increasing complexity of expert-designed parameter adaptation schemes can be inconvenient for users. Motivated by the rapid development of large language models (LLMs), this paper proposes a novel and simple parameter adaptation scheme. Specifically, we treat the internal mechanism of parameter adaptation as a black-box problem and employ the LLM Gemini with the standard CRISPE prompt engineering framework to automatically design the parameter adaptation scheme during optimization. The proposed scheme is integrated into DE to form our proposal Gem-iniDE. To evaluate the performance of our proposed GeminiDE, we conduct comprehensive numerical experiments on IEEE-CEC2017 and CEC2022, using constant and random parameter settings in DE as competitor adaptation schemes. Experimental results and statistical analyses demonstrate that our proposed scheme significantly accelerates the optimization convergence of DE and has great potential for extending to various metaheuristic approaches.
