The problem of transmitting a remote source via multiple agents to a single destination is considered with secrecy constraints. In particular, noisy versions of a source are observed by multiple agents who then encode and transmit their observations to a decoder over dedicated noisy channel. The decoder should be able to reconstruct the remote source within a certain distortion limit. In addition, there exists an eavesdropper with correlated side information to the source who is capable of wiretapping the links from the agents to the decoder so as to extract as much information as possible about the source. Therefore, the agents should encode their observations in such a way that while as less information as possible is leaked to the eavesdropper the decoder can satisfy the distortion constraint. For this problem, we study the tradeoffs among agents' transmission rates, experienced distortion at the destination, and equivocation rates at the eavesdropper, and provide an achievable region.

We address the problem of nonparametric estimation of characteristics for stationary and ergodic time series. We consider finite-alphabet time series and the real-valued ones and the following problems: estimation of the (limiting) probability P(u 0 hellip u s ) for every s and each sequence u 0 hellip u s of letters from the process alphabet (or estimation of the density p(x 0 , hellip , x s ) for real-valued time series), so-called on-line prediction, where the conditional probability P(x t+1 /x 1 x 2 hellip x t ) (or the conditional density p(x t+1 /x 1 x 2 hellip x t )) should be estimated (in the case where x 1 x 2 hellip x t is known), regression and classification (or so-called problems with side information). We show that any universal code (or a universal data compressor) can be used as a basis for constructing asymptotically optimal methods for the above problems.

The paper addresses the fundamental information theoretic limits — in terms of achievable rates and distortions — in a broad class of multiterminal communication scenarios with general continuous-valued sources and channels. A general framework is presented which involves fine discretization of the source and channel variables followed by communication over the resulting discretized network. In order to evaluate fundamental performance limits under the proposed discretization process, convergence results for information measures are provided. The framework is used to study the distributed source coding in source coding, as well as the computation over multiple access channels in channel coding. In each case, a communication scheme is presented, the resulting achievable region is derived, and the region is evaluated for Gaussian sources and channels.

Buffer overflow is an important security issue. Many countermeasures have been proposed, e.g., DEP, shadow stack. However, existing DEP is facing the problem of being bypassed by attackers through information leakage attacks. To address the shortcomings of current backward edge pointer integrity protection in preventing buffer overflow attacks, this paper proposes a shadow stack based backward edge pointer integrity protection scheme through dynamic instrumentation, and implements a prototype system based on the DynamoRIO framework. Shadow stack mechanism can achieve effective protection for return address integrity by maintaining a one-to-one mapping relationship between the shadow stack and the program stack. Meanwhile, test cases were designed to evaluate the effectiveness, runtime performance and compatibility of the plugin. Experiment results show that the security plugin is compatible with most programs and can run with an average overhead of about 10 % to 15%. This is acceptable when comparing to stack shield with 22% overhead.

In this paper, we focus on the energy consumption issues of data transmission from correlated sensor nodes, and an optimization algorithm is proposed for minimizing the total energy consumption of the hardware and the physical link. We perform a detailed trade-off analysis of the circuit energy consumption, the transmission energy consumption, the transmission time, the QAM constellation size, and the channel coding rate over transmission distance and correlation values, thus a new optimized transmission schedule with much lower energy consumption is obtained. Compared to the optimized uncorrelated uncoded transmission scheme, the total energy consumption may be reduced by more than 83.5% for a correlation value of 0.6 and a transmission distance of 100 meters when using the results from the proposed optimization, which is significant with respect to increasing the lifetime of a wireless sensor network.

With software driving more and more of our world, dependability assurance becomes increasingly essential. While safe-by-design is desirable, there are always failure conditions that cannot be avoided and must be handled (or deemed acceptable in review). However, this requires awareness and explicitness of failure conditions as well as their impact on the overall system. Fault trees are commonly used in dependability assurance, up to the point that their creation and properties are mandated by safety standards. As of today, these documents are created manually by safety engineers—a process that lacks traceability between the software source code and associated fault *** advances in programming languages have led to stronger type systems and more modern ways to express failure conditions. One example is the Rust language, which uses monadic types to make potential failures explicit. In this paper, we present our tool craft, which uses static program analysis to generate fault trees of functions for a subset of the Rust language. We showcase both capabilities as well as limitations of our approach and give directions for future work.

In this work, we investigate an instance of the Heegard-Berger problem with two sources and arbitrarily correlated side information at two decoders, in which the reconstruction sets at the decoders are degraded. Specifically, two sources are to be encoded in a manner that one of the two is reproduced losslessly by both decoders, and the other is reproduced to within some prescribed distortion level at one of the two decoders. We establish the optimal rate-distortion function for this model. The investigation of the result in some special cases also sheds light on the utility of joint compression of the two sources.

In recent years, the increasing number of individuals diagnosed with depression and the growing awareness of its impact on modern society have highlighted the significance of accurate depression diagnosis. Microarray data has played a crucial role in uncovering the genetic mechanisms underlying depression. However, existing methods for depression prediction using microarray data often rely on the selection of differentially expressed genes. This approach disregards important information from other genes and is susceptible to batch effects, thereby limiting generalizability and model stability. To address these limitations, we propose DP-BERT, a depression prediction model based on Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT). DP-BERT follows a pre-training and fine-tuning paradigm, leveraging a large amount of unlabeled microarray data from diverse sequencing platforms for pretraining to extract comprehensive genetic-level representations of psychiatric disorders. Subsequently, supervised fine-tuning is performed for depression prediction. Experimental results demonstrate that the pre-trained model achieves superior performance in depression prediction. Recent results on source-channel coding for secure transmission show that separation holds in several cases under some less-noisy conditions. However, it has also been proved through a simple counterexample that pure analog schemes can be optimal and hence outperform digital ones. According to these observations and assuming matched-bandwidth, we present a novel hybrid digital/analog scheme that aims to gather the advantages of both digital and analog ones. In the quadratic Gaussian setup when side information is only present at the eavesdropper, this strategy is proved to be optimal. Furthermore, it outperforms both digital and analog schemes and cannot be achieved via time-sharing. An application example to binary symmetric sources with side information is also investigated.

Augmented Reality is presented as a solution to meet the needs of people who want to design and decorate their new living spaces or restore their existing ones, since they frequently struggle to see how different furniture pieces and décor items would appear when combined. Furthermore, people wanting to buy new furniture sometimes fail to assess whether a specific item will fit well in their space and match existing features. This demand is met by augmented reality, which allows users to visually integrate and personalize 3D interior models in their real-world living area. This enables improved decision-making before making physical purchases. To execute this AR technology, the Markerless Tracking algorithm is used, which allows users to virtually position things in their homes without the need for markers such as QR codes. The GLTFLoader component of *** enables users to put and interact with numerous models at the same time, allowing them to envision whole furniture sets in their desired configuration. This helps clients assess the visual harmony and aesthetic attractiveness of various furniture items when put together in the same space.
