A novel low complexity scheme based on received data symbol pair reordering and optimal selection, is proposed for space time block coded (STBC) OFDM systems to suppress co-channel interference (CCI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by time-varying channels. The proposed scheme reorders the conventional received data symbol pairs to produce extra received data symbol pairs. Then, the STBC decoding is performed on all the received data symbol pairs, and the STBC decoding output signals are used to obtain multiple combined signals. Finally, the optimal combined signal with minimum interference is selected to suppress CCI and ICI, and the system performance will be improved as long as the channels are mutually uncorrelated. Our computer simulation results verify that the proposed low complexity scheme achieves good performance for high mobility 2x2 STBC-OFDM systems in the ITU Vehicular A (VA) channels.

New design of no-zero-entry single symbol ML decodable STBCs based on group precoding

In multiple-input multiple-output （MIMO） systems, space-time block codes （STBCs） from orthogonal designs （ODs） and coordinate interleaved orthogonal designs （CLOD） have been attracting wider attention due to their amenability for fast （single symbol） maximum-likelihood （ML） decoding, and full-rate with full-rank over quasi-static fading channels. However, most of these codes, for transmitting antennas more than 4, have large number of zero entries in their codeword matrix. Due to the zero entries in the design, the transmitting antennas need to be switched on and off imposing severe hardware constraints. To solve this problem, we propose a method to generate a new class of no-zero-entry single symbol maximum likelihood decodable STBCs （NZESSDCs）, which is based on coordinate interleaving and group precoding technique. The ability of the proposed group precoding based NZESSDCs （called G-NZESSDCs） on single symbol ML Decoding and full diversity are analyzed and derived. The performance evaluation is accomplished by numerical simulation and is compared with recently reported NZESSDCs （called C-NZESSDCs）. Compared with C-NZESSDCs, the proposed G-NZESSDCs have same bit-error-rate （BER） performance and better peak-to-average ratio （PAPR） performance.

This paper proposes a dual space diversity technique using both space time block code (STBC) and mode group diversity multiplexing (MGDM) in an 10 Gbit/s 1km long optical multi-mode fiber (MMF)communication system. The simulation results demonstrate that the system based on STBC+MGDM achieves better performance than that only employing MGDM in the current system.

This letter investigates the space-time block codes from quasi-orthogonal design as a tradeoff between high transmission rate and low decoding complexity. By studying the role orthogonality plays in space-time block codes, upper bound of transmission rate and lower bound of decoding complexity for quasi-orthogonal design are claimed. From this point of view, novel algorithms are developed to construct specific quasi-orthogonal designs achieving these bounds.

AN ADAPTIVE RECEIVER FOR STBC IN FREQUENCY SELECTIVE CHANNEL WITH IMPROVED ROBUSTNESS AND PILOT REQUIREMENTS

The semi-blind recursive least squares (RLS) based adaptive receiver has been designed to perform joint interference suppression and equalization for space time block codes (STBC) in a frequency and time selective channel. In order to decrease pilot requirements in the training block, this paper introduces a linear predictor (LP) algorithm to do a forward prediction of the channel coefficients based on a smaller pilot block. We then introduce a QR-decomposition (QRD) based algorithm to improve the performance of the receiver at higher Doppler frequencies. The simulation results show that the addition of the LP does not affect the frame error rate (FER) of the overall system. Linear prediction requires a smaller number of pilot symbols in order to provide the channel estimates for a given burst. Hence the LP increases the overall throughput of the system by decreasing the pilot symbols required. The simulation results show that this is a more effective method for improving the system performance as the overall FER of the combined QRD-LP receiver is decreased significantly. Finally, by comparing the QRD based receiver and the RLS based receiver at higher Doppler frequencies, we verify that the QRD receiver has superior FER performance under these conditions.

For an n(t) transmit, n(r) receive antenna system (n(t) x n(r) system), a full-rate space time block code (STBC) transmits n(min) = min(n(t), n(r)) complex symbols per channel use and in general, has an ML-decoding complexity of the order of M-ntnmin (considering square designs), where M is the constellation size. In this paper, a scheme to obtain a full-rate STBC for 2 a transmit antennas and any n(r), with reduced ML-decoding complexity of the order of Mnt(nmin-3/4)-0.5, is presented. The well known Silver code for 2 transmit antennas is a special case of the proposed scheme. Further, it is shown that the codes constructed using the scheme have higher ergodic capacity than the well known punctured Perfect codes for n(r) < n(t). Simulation results of the symbol error rates are shown for 8 x 2 systems, where the comparison of the proposed code is with the punctured Perfect code for 8 transmit antennas. The proposed code matches the punctured Perfect code in error performance, while having reduced ML-decoding complexity and higher ergodic capacity.

STBC MIMO Network Coding for Bi-directional Multi-Hop Relay Networks

Efficient bi-directional multi-hop wireless networks based on MIMO algorithm or network coding have been proposed in recent papers. This paper proposes a new technique named as MIMO network coding, that is a combination of network coding and MIMO algorithm for multi-hop relay networks. By using MIMO network coding, co-channel interference cancellation and efficient bi-directional transmission can be realized simultaneously with lower complexity in multi-hop networks. Moreover, space time block code (STBC) MIMO transmission is also introduced to achieve higher reliability in MIMO network coding. It is confirmed from numerical analysis that the MIMO network coding with STBC achieves higher capacity and reliability than conventional schemes.

Capacity analysis of high-rank line-of-sight MIMO channels

Matrix perturbation theory is utilized to investigate high-rank line of sight multiple input multiple output channels in a microwave relay system. The upper and lower bounds of channel capacity are derived based on space time block codes technique and singular values decomposition. A useful constraint for designing LOS MIMO channels is developed by the use of the condition number of the MIMO channel matrix. The theoretical analysis of channel capacity is confirmed by the simulation. The results show that the proposed method is able to give a physical explanation of the high-rank LOS MIMO channel matrix characteristics.
