Multimode precoder design for STBC with limited feedback in MIMO based wireless communication system

In this paper, a multimode precoder design for space-time block code (STBC) is investigated, which varies the number of streams depending on the channel condition. We develop a design criterion of minimizing the vector symbol error rate and derive an efficient offline algorithm to generate precoders. Simulation results show that the multimode precoded STBC (MM-STBC) provides substantial performance improvements compared with the single mode precoded orthogonal STBC (SM-STBC) for a fixed data-rate. It also outperforms the multimode precoded multiple-input multiple-output (MM-MIMO) system when feedback rate is very limited.

Performance Bounds for Two-way Amplify-and-Forward Relaying

In this paper, the average sum rate of two-way amplify-and-forward (AF) half-duplex relaying system is analyzed. To this end, we first derive the harmonic mean of two independent gamma distributed random variables which have the same shape parameter but different scale parameters. By deriving tight upper and lower bounds for the average sum rate of two-way relaying, we verify that two-way relaying can significantly recover the spectrum efficiency loss of one-way relaying. We also extend the two-way AF half-duplex relaying to the case where source and destination terminals both transmit Alamouti's orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) utilizing two antennas and the relay has only one antenna. By deriving both upper and lower bounds for the average sum rate as well as an upper bound for the pairwise error probability (PEP) for the proposed two-way OSTBC scheme, we show that the average sum rate is further improved compared to the single antenna case and a diversity order of two is also achieved. Furthermore, optimal power allocations under a global power constraint for two-way relaying with single antenna and the proposed two-way OSTBC scheme are derived analytically.

Focusing on space-time block code （STBC） systems with unknown co-channel interference, an oblique projection-based robust linear receiver is proposed in this *** on the oblique projection, the desired signal subspace and interference-plus-noise subspace are first identified from the received *** the matched filter receiver is used to decode the STBC encoded signals in the desired signal *** results show that the proposed linear receiver obtains significant performance improvement over conventional Capon-type receivers under finite sample-size situations and in the presence of channel estimation errors.

In this paper, we propose a novel, systematic structure for quasi-orthogonal space-time block codes (QO-STBCs) achieving full rate for even number of transmit antennas over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. Especially, the new codes are delay optimal unlike conventional QO-STBCs and thus have a great advantage in ML decoding complexity at a receiver. In order to exploit full spatial diversity, we utilize a constellation rotation method and also examine optimal rotation angles through brute-force search for some cases of modulations and transmit antennas. Computer simulation results show that the proposed codes exhibit average error performance almost the same as or better than the existing QO-STBCs.

Many space time block code (STBC) schemes have been proposed to achieve reliable communications over independent and identical distributed (i.i.d.) fading channels. However, the fading of realistic wireless channel is spatial correlated. Recently Zhou-Giannakis and Jongren-Skoglund-Ottersten proposed a new design criterion and algorithm that combined the STBC with linear beamforming assuming the transmitter had perfect or partial feedback information from the receiver. In this paper, we apply the exponential correlation model to model channel spatial correlation and provide the theoretical bit-error probabilities (BEPs) of the robust scheme combing STBC with beamforming based on this model. Analytical and simulation results are presented to verify our theoretical analysis. The results also show that the performance gain obtained by this robust scheme increases evidently as the maximum Doppler frequency becomes larger.

Channel estimation is one of the key issues in space-time systems design. In this paper we propose a blind estimation algorithm solely based on exploiting the code construction of the space-time block code. Subspace decomposition is applied to the channel output and we show that if the signal subspace is uniquely decided by the channel, then the channel parameter can be uniquely estimated up a scalar constant. The proposed algorithm is derived based on a general form of space-time block code and therefore may be applicable for any block code. Some specific codes are evaluated using computer simulations.

When receive antennas increasing the diversity gain will be increasing too.

We evaluate the bit error rate (BER) of the QOSTBC-LDPC with multiple transmit antennas in a quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel by the computer simulation. We show that the BER of the QOSTBC-LDPC is better than that of the STBC with same antennas in a quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel. When receive antennas increasing the diversity gain will be increasing too.
