The Multiple input multiple Output system (MIMO), in conjunction with the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is taken into consideration as a promising answer for improving the data rates of upcoming generation wireless communication systems, operate within the frequency selective fading atmosphere. space-time block coding is popularly recognized as the transmit diversity technique which is used to resolve the channel fading issues within the wireless communication system. A MIMO-OFDM system by using STBC for two transmit and two receive antennas has been implemented to reduce the Bit Error Rate for wireless communications. Hence we examine the effect of BER of the proposed system for numerous modulation schemes like Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK), Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK), 8-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (8-QAM), 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (16-QAM), 32-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (32-QAM), and 64-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (64-QAM) are simulated using Simulink.

This work addresses and suggests solutions to the problem of insufficient degrees of freedom in beamforming designs for single-group multicasting networks, where a group of users receives the same information. In our proposed approach we extend the known conventional rank-one, maxmin fair beamforming approach to a general rank beamforming approach. The proposed approach offers more flexibility and serves the users simultaneously with multiple beams. We broaden the concept of [1], where rank-two Alamouti space-time block coding (STBC) has been combined with beamforming by using a higher rank orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) instead. The increase of the rank is accompanied with an enhancement of the degrees of freedom and results in more optimal beamformers and an improved reliability. Simulations reveal that the proposed general rank beamforming approach provides a significant improvement in the bit error rate (BER) performance compared with the conventional state of the art approaches in large communication scenarios with many users.

The direct application of orthogonal space-time block coding (OS-TBC) for multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) systems to distributed cooperative relay networks makes the equivalent channel matrix for maximum likelihood (ML) detection lose its orthogonality. Hence, this paper proposes a new design that makes the channel matrix be orthogonally distributed (OD) for a suboptimal symbol-by-symbol detector (SBSD). Using ODSTBC, an asymptotic symbol error probability (SEP) formula with SBSD is derived, showing die optimal diversity gain function is achieved. In addition, two kinds of ODSTBC designs for the distributed relay networks are presented, which interestingly renders that SBSD is equivalent to the ML detector. Numerical results verify the diversity analysis and indicate competitive error performance to currently available orthogonal distributed STBC designs with much simpler complexity.

Utilizing multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver provides higher data rates and better reliability by exploiting spatial diversity. space-time block codes (STBCs) is a simple approach for using multiple transmit and receive antennas that has been widely employed in standards. The STBCs introduced in the literature use independent two-dimensional constellations, while the performance of orthogonal STBCs may be improved with multidimensional constellations. These constellations are transmitted by combining multiple space-time resources to form a multidimensional signal space. In this paper, we propose a method for finding optimized multidimensional constellations for orthogonal STBCs. Optimization is performed by minimizing a novel bound on the block or symbol error rate. We show that a substantial improvement in the error probability can be achieved with these novel constellations.

space-time block code (STBC) based on orthogonal design is one of the space-time coding methods to achieve multi-input multi-output (MIMO) diversity gain. STBC can provide sufficient space diversity gain, but it can not provide coding gain. Polar codes based on channel polarization are the first class of provably capacity-achieving codes with low encoding and decoding complexity. In order to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of STBC, a concatenated scheme with Polar codes and STBC, named Polar-STBC scheme, is proposed in this paper. The BER performance of Polar-STBC system is discussed by numerical simulation under different polar code length, different polar code rates, and different coding methods of STBC. The results show that the performance of Polar-STBC has a big improvement in comparison with that using STBC only. The coding gain of Polar-STBC system is about 5dB when the BER is 10~(-3). Meanwhile, the longer code length and the lower code rate Polar codes have, the better BER performance the Polar-STBC system has. In addition, the different STBC coding methods have influence on the Polar-STBC system. The Polar-STBC system with more receiving antennas has a better BER performance in comparison with those with the same sending antennas and less receiving antennas. The coding gain of Polar-STBC system with 2 receiving antenna is 6.5dB improvement to the system with 1 receiving antenna when BER is 10~(-3)and the code length is 1024.

This paper inquires into the deployment of a scalable and adaptable diversity/multiplexing trade-off in a multi-user massive MIMO context. It studies the BER of an embedded switching between the ZF spatial multiplexing and the Alamouti STBC when it is combined with three beamforming techniques: the ZF-beamforming, the STBC-adaptive beamforming, and the spatial multiplexing-adaptive beamforming. It is shown that the embedded switching technique is efficient when it is combined with the STBC-adaptive beamforming as well as the spatial multiplexing-adaptive beamforming. Besides, it offers an improvement of SNR=8db compared to when it is combined with the ZF-beamforming.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) accident notification time is often delayed in areas with sparse cellular coverage and non-periodic communication access points. It is possible to mitigate such coverage gaps using cooperative communication which, by its distributed nature, does not rely on fixed base stations in remote areas. In the event of a collision EMS notification can be relayed through surrounding cellular equipped vehicles. This paper proposes a cooperative environment using Amplify and Forward (AF) protocol to communicate with the nearest accessible base station to transmit a collision message or even video for the first responders. The intent of the paper is to analyze the performance of different modulation techniques in this dynamic surrounding using Alamouti space-time block coding (STBC) scheme for achieving spatial diversity. Use of multiple relay antennas is used to improve the diversity. Data is encoded using a space-time block code, and then split into n streams which are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. The paper examines if the cooperative relaying technique outweighs the advantages of a fixed relay system due to the dynamic nature of the highway.

Visible light communication is a new frontier of communication allowing high data-rate Internet access specially in indoor environment. One of the key challenges is the limited modulation bandwidth of sources, that is typically around several MHz. As a room or coverage space would typically be illuminated by an array of Light Emitting Diode devices, there exists the potential for parallel data transmission. In this paper we investigate the use of multiple LEDs to perform a space-time block coding. By exploiting optical MIMO techniques, jointly with Pulse Position Modulation, we can achieve data rates of the order of hundreds of Mb/s (i.e., around 600 Mb/s) in indoor VLC systems, with no reduction of link reliability. Finally, the proposed approach has been compared to similar techniques, highlighting its effectiveness and robustness.

In this paper we propose a new receiver architecture for multi-layered space-time block codes based on the QR decomposition and compare its performance to an alternative solution proposed by the authors based on MMSE. Both these algorithms use an iterative method based on soft decision statistics to cancel out interference from subsequent decoded layers and reduce the effect of error propagation (EP). We also compare the performance results with a sorted QR- method and discuss the complexity, rate and diversity tradeoffs.

In this paper, the end-to-end packet error rate (PER) performance of a space-time block code (STBC) based multi-hop cooperative relaying system is discussed. This system consists of a source, a destination, and two STBC based cooperative relays in each hop. These relays decode their received packets and forward the packets only when no error is found. In this system, there are conditions where the end-to-end PER performance improves with the number of hops. The theoretical end-to-end PER performance of this system have been derived analytically. However, in real-world wireless systems, various practical issues, e.g., timing synchronization and imperfect channel estimation, have a large impact on the performance. To confirm the end-to-end PER performance of this system in actual setup, an in-lab experiment using a fading emulator and four transceivers is performed under Rayleigh fading environment. The experimental results clarify the PER performance of the STBC based multi-hop cooperative relaying system. In addition, the theoretical PER performance is also verified from the experimental results.
