The recent concept of beamspace multiple input multiple output (MEMO) can significantly reduce the number of required radio frequency (RE) chains in millimeter wave (mmWave) massive MEMO systems without obvious performance loss. However, the number of supported users cannot be larger than the number of RF chains in hybrid MEMO architectures. To break this fundamental limit, we introduce the concept of sparse code multiple access (SCMA) with beamspace MEMO, then a useful upper bound on the average symbol error probability is obtained through the union bound. The bound is tight in beamspace nunWave MEMO-SCMA systems for high SNR regions. The analytical result is compared with simulations, and the results confirm the effectiveness of the analysis for mmWave MEMO-SCMA channels.

In this paper, two low-complexity detectors for uplink sparse code multiple access (SCMA) systems are proposed. The first, called symbol flipping algorithm (SFA), is an analogy of the bit-flipping decoding algorithm in the low-density parity check code field. Specifically, the local hard-decision detection is first performed at each resource node, and the decided signal in the least reliable resource node is flipped. The second is an improved partial marginalization (PM)-based message passing algorithm (MPA). Based on the reliability definition introduced in SFA, the variable nodes to be marginalized are determined dynamically during the MPA iteration procedure, and the resulted detector is termed as dynamic PM-based MPA. Simulation results show that the proposed hard-decision SFA can achieve a numerous complexity reduction and the proposed dynamic PM-based MPA has better performance than the conventional PM-based MPA.

We propose a novel physical layer security scheme applied to SCMA communication for satellite system, called SCMA secure communication based on distance spectrum. SCMA is an important alternative of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in the fifth generation mobile communication system, due to its superior overload transmission. This paper aims at designing SCMA codebooks based on distance spectrum, which involves parameter design, phase rotation, mapping, and sparse spreading. In addition, this paper shows that, in the multi-satellite communication links, the phase of the legitimate user channel is used as the key to be integrated into the satellite SCMA secure communication codebook structure to reduce the probability of being intercepted. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively improves the safety of satellite communication links on the basis of ensuring that the overload transmission performance is not affected, and provides a valuable reference for the practical application of sparse code division multiple access.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a promising multiple access technology candidate for 5G wireless communication systems. The high detection complexity is its bottleneck. Stochastic computation is an ultra-low complexity digital signal processing technique in which probabilities are represented and processed with streams of random bits. In this paper, we propose a novel low complexity stochastic iterative detection approach for SCMA detection based on stochastic computation. We refer it as stochastic SCMA detector. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed stochastic SCMA detector has only 36% hardware complexity compared to previous state-of-the-art soft input soft output (SISO) SCMA detector with satisfied BER performance.

With the development of 5G technology and wireless networks, the limited spectrum resources and increasing number of Machine-Type Communications (MTC) devices in massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC) networks have led to the problem of Random access Channel (RACH) congestion. sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a widely used method for random access (RA), which can effectively improve spectrum utilization efficiency. However, using the SCMA method for RA can result in the codebook collision. This paper presents a SCMA-Q-learning method to deal with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication networks congestion. This method allow MTC devices to dynamically select the optimal codebook and time-slot-group based on the constantly changing environment. access Class Barring (ACB) technology is employed in overload control. When the system is overloaded, the ACB factor adjusts its size based on the number of accessed devices. Simulation results show that compared with other existing methods, our method can effectively improve the throughput of the entire system.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is an up-and-coming non-orthogonal multiple access technology. The message passing algorithm (MPA) is utilized for multi-user signal detection in the SCMA system to achieve a performance close to the maximum a posterior algorithm. However, higher iterations will lead to the higher computational complexity of the MPA. In this paper, a dynamic threshold and stability judgment based MPA scheme (DTS-MPA) is proposed to reduce the computational complexity by simplifying the factor graph and reducing the number of iterations. Firstly, an adaptive dynamic threshold is set to minimize the number of iterations in the different channel state information. Secondly, an additional iteration is proposed to determine whether the variable nodes that meet the dynamic threshold reach stable convergence to improve the decoding reliability. Variable nodes that meet the above conditions will be decoded in advance. Numerical results show that the DTS-MPA can significantly reduce the computational complexity of the MPA and achieve a significant trade-off between bit error rate performance and computational complexity.

In order to satisfy the need for high data rate and high number of users, new generation communication techniques are developed. One of the techniques that may be used in future generation communication networks is sparse code multiple access (SCMA). With this new technique, the aim is to allocate users frequency resources in a non-orthogonal way by using code books. For this new technique, which is has a potential to be used in 5G and beyond communication networks, most researches have focused on flat fading channels and related results have been provided. In this work, different from earlier studies, fast fading channels have been considered for channels varying at different rates, and bit-error performance results have been provided with computer simulations.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, we proposed a joint SCMA detection and Turbo decoding (JDD) scheme for the SCMA system. The proposed method integrates the message passing between SCMA detector and turbo decoder into the factor graph of the SCMA detector to construct a joint factor graph. Simulation results show the JDD scheme has 1.6 dB performance gain compared to the iterative detection and decoding (IDD) scheme. Moreover, it has only 0.2 dB performance loss compared to the single user QPSK system. To further reduce the computational complexity of the JDD scheme, we implement the JDD scheme in the logarithm domain (LOG-JDD) with the same performance compared with the IDD scheme. A technology that can improve the convergence is used to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Simulation results show that a suitable damping factor can obtain about 1dB performance gain compared with the IDD scheme.

Considering the performance of the sparse code multiple access (SCMA) networks at the entirely different signal to noise ratios (SNRs) of users is crucial. In this paper, a near-optimal resource allocation algorithm to maximize the average sum rate is investigated, where the users are randomly distributed in a circular cell. To obtain the factor graph matrix of uplink SCMA systems, the existing works are usually based on three steps to maximize the sum rate, i.e., choosing a random initial assignment matrix, allocating the subcarriers to the users based on channel gains, and maximizing the individual rate considering the interference of all users. Unlike the existing works, we consider a more general scenario and propose a new algorithm based on the individual rate with interference updating. After the factor graph matrix is derived, the optimal power coefficients are obtained based on the Lagrange method. The simulation results in terms of average sum rate show that our proposed method can outperform and guarantee stronger optimality compared to the existing algorithms.

In this paper, we investigated channel estimation with decision feedback for sparse code multiple access (SCMA) system with diversity. In this scheme, symbols of SCMA codeword from J users are spread over K < J orthogonal resources with uncorrelated fading. For block fading model (flat fading) in uplink channel, it is required to estimate smaller number of channel coefficients per resource block than in the scheme without diversity where fading is identical for all orthogonal resources. The minimal length of orthogonal pilot signal for system with diversity can be decreased proportionally to the sparsity factor of SCMA codewords. Furthermore, the proposed scheme allows choosing flexible pilot lengths, while in a scheme without diversity this length should be a multiple of K. Data-feedback-aided algorithm with hard decisions from SCMA detector and from decoder of turbo code is used for channel estimation. The simulation results show performance gain when turbo decoder is included in feedback loop.
