spatio-temporal data model is a data model which completely simulates the objective world in terms of time, space and semantic features. It is an abstraction and representation of the objective real world. Urban history is a branch of world history. It draws outline for the course of urban initiation, development and maturing with the development of civilization as a clue. "Beijing Studies" is an important branch of the urban history studies and there are a large number of research results related to history, geography, culture, technology and many other aspects. This paper focuses on studying the spatio-temporal data characteristics and conceptual framework during the historical evolution of Beijing city, extracting the typical Beijing city historical events to establish a multi-dimension star snapshot data model (MDSSDM) based on historical events to present spatial characteristics and historical characteristics for urban form and urban spatial structure of Beijing city.

A spatio-temporal data model for Road Network in data Center Based on Incremental Updating in Vehicle Navigation System

The technique of incremental updating,which can better guarantee the real-time situation of navigational map,is the developing orientation of navigational road network *** data center of vehicle navigation system is in charge of storing incremental data,and the spatio-temporal data model for storing incremental data does affect the efficiency of the response of the data center to the requirements of incremental data from the vehicle *** to the analysis on the shortcomings of several typical spatio-temporal data models used in the data center and based on the base map with overlay model,the reverse map with overlay model (RMOM) was put forward for the data center to make rapid response to incremental data *** supports the data center to store not only the current complete road network data,but also the overlays of incremental data from the time when each road network changed to the current ***,the storage mechanism and index structure of the incremental data were designed,and the implementation algorithm of RMOM was *** navigational road network in Guangzhou City as an example,the simulation test was conducted to validate the efficiency of *** show that the navigation database in the data center can response to the requirements of incremental data by only one query with RMOM,and costs less *** with the base map with overlay model,the data center does not need to temporarily overlay incremental data with RMOM,so time-consuming of response is significantly *** greatly improves the efficiency of response and provides strong support for the real-time situation of navigational road network.

It is foundation and key of developing GIS platforms of new generation to study the network-oriented massive spatial and spatio-temporal data model. But the research has met many difficulties. The paper combines two models of massive spatial data and spatio-temporal data seemed to be independent to study together in theory and technique. On the base of analyzing the limitations of present geographical spatial data model and spatio-temporal data model, a new model with characteristics of new generation's GIS platform, that is, Feature-Oriented Massive spatio-temporal Object Tree (FOMSOT) with four-tier architectures is presented. The FOMSOT breaks down the constraint of map layer. It can deal with the massive spatio-temporal data better. The dynamic multi-base state with amendment (DMSA), fast index of base state with amendment in section, storage factors of variable granularity (SFVG) are used in FOMSOT which can manage the massive spatio-temporal data in high efficiency. A prototype "LyranMap" of new generation's GIS platform with the theory and technical method of FOMSOT has been realized, and it has been used in some application systems, for example, the land planning system "LandPlanner", land investigation system "LandExplorer" and land cadastral system "LandReGIS". These verify the correctness and effectiveness of the FOMSOT.

temporality is the distinct attribute of cadastral information. It is very important to scientifically and efficiently manage three kinds of data that exist in the Cadastral Information System, such as spatial data, temporal data and attributive data. Based on the research of TGIS and the advantages of existing spatio-temporal database model. This paper proposes a design of a spatio-temporal cadastral database which is divided into historical database and alterative database. This design fulfills the requirements for management of cadastral data and reduces data redundance and enhances the efficiency of database.

To build and apply temporal Geographic Information System (TGIS), to manage mining land spatio-temporal data is a key research aspect for present production administration and ecological environment protection. spatio-temporal database, whose foundation is spatio-temporal data model, is the core of TGIS. Considering the feature of land use to change, this paper builds up a model of mining land spatio-temporal data based on ground-state amended model with some improvements. This data model stores space information and time information of mining land in spatial database. From judging the spatio-temporal information in historical and current database, the land use situation at different historical period can be recurred very conveniently. At the same time, the mutual transforming situation among lands at different periods can be educed from overlaying the lands by use of the related analyzed function of GIS. Accordingly, that will give an important reference to open out the rule of mining land evolution.

We interpret the geographic world as a combination of geographic entities (such as city, road, river). Using these geographic entities as the basic granularity for description, storage and manipulation, therefore, can provide a bridge between conceptual understanding and practical application. However, the issue arises of how to design a data model that is generic enough for the geographic entities when the data can change spatially and temporally. This difficulty is compounded when there is a need for geographic inference. In this paper, we offer a feasible solution by presenting a spatio-temporal data model of Geographic Entities (STDMGE), which describes each geographic entity as geographic object part and geographic relation part, both of which are well designed to organize the multi-source data (traditional geospatial data, sensor data, relationship data among geographic entities, etc.). Spatial-temporal changes can be accurately expressed and efficiently implemented using this model. Moreover, the formal description of geographic rules and events are incorporated in the data model for the possible future requirements of geographic reasoning. We further illustrate the data model by applying it to the case study of the river data.

Place names are signs of geographic entities, and the database of which, a digital gazetteer, is an increasingly important form of geographic information. So the construction and the application of digital gazetteers are growing research areas. And significant progress has been made in the development of which, but there are still some vital issues that require further work: (1) Places and attributes related would inevitably change over time, but few gazetteer services model temporal ranges;(2) Current gazetteers do not normally hold historical information;(3) The relationships between place name entries are few considered in most existing digital gazetteers;(4) Geographic footprints currently used in gazetteers are usually confined to simple representations. In this paper, we proposed a spatio-temporal data model for administrative division place names, which are in a significant and large proportion of place names. We took Xiamen City as a case, located in coastal areas of Fujian Province, Southeast of China, to describe our model. In the model, we considered spatio-temporal changes and relationships between entries in gazetteers, and the footprints used are multi-scale patches adapting to hierarchical administrative system. Accordingly, our model could provide an important reference for digitizing gazetteers and further for implementing digital earth.

By analyzing the characteristic and limitations of several typical spatio-temporal data models, the extension methods of improvement are presented for an event-based spatio-temporal data model in the paper. This model takes the current geographic state as the base, quickly recovers the spatial data of any past time. Because recording the changes of spatial objects and cause of changes, model can query spatial objects' historical data (geometric and thematic) and reason the changes of spatial objects. Separate storage and management of spatial data, thematic data and time is effective in reducing storage space and redundancy of data, improve the efficiency of query. model can be implemented on object-relation database or extending static GIS database. An example about land subdivision is adopted to realize the data model. The instance indicates this model can quickly recover regional state, query time, space and attribute mutually.

Dynamic monitoring of land use is a perennial and persistent process now in Shanghai. Therefore, the cumulated amount of monitoring data will be very large. It is an exigent problem how to manage and use this data effectively. The key issue is finding a suitable spatio-temporal data model that must take into account space, time and attribute factor adequately. In dynamic monitoring of land use, it is change that is of direct interest. With analyzing the feature of land use dynamic monitoring and the shortage of some spatio-temporal data models when they are used in the field, this paper proposes a Hierarchical spatio-temporal data model (HSDM) that stores elements of change and makes these available for direct query and analysis.

In this study, a marine and atmospheric spatio-temporal data model (MASTDM) based on satellite remote sensing has been developed to support the global oceanic and atmospheric research and application in the Marine and Atmospheric Geographical Information System (MAGIS). MASTDM conceptualizes the spatial distribution and temporal sampling of the satellite remote sensing data. The model has provided a mechanism service to store data and some subroutines to retrieve and manipulate data. These subroutines can be classified into the fundamental functions (definition, access, inquiry, export) and the advanced functions (transform, operation, validation and mend and etc). MASTDM is not only a solid foundation of the three modules (database management, spatial-temporal analysis and visualization) of MAGIS, but also a key to integrate these three modules seamlessly. In this paper, the conceptual and logical designs of MASTDM have been presented. A prototype system based on MASTDM has been implemented in MAGIS, it is also illustrated by some case study.
