This study proposes a new topology of cascaded transformer-based multilevel inverter using single Z-source. The suggested circuit consists of only one Z network and one DC voltage source;as a result installation area is reduced. In this topology, the output voltage amplitude is not limited to DC voltage source similar to traditional cascaded transformer-based multilevel inverter and can be increased with Z network shoot-through state control flexibly. Besides, the same as traditional Z-source inverter, it is more reliable against short circuit. Also, a particular switching algorithm has been suggested for presented inverter, which can obtain total harmonic distortion (THD) of output voltage nearly constant for different boost ratio. Moreover, as compared to traditional Z-source inverter, the THD of output voltage is decreased in the suggested topology. The performance of proposed inverter and switching algorithm are validated with simulation results using MATLAB/SIMULINK software and experimental results based PCI-1716 data acquisition system.

This paper describes a new maximum power point tracking (MPPT) based on a variable structure "Automatic Systems approach" in order to modify and improve the conventional method perturb and observe. Therefore, the main contribution of this work is related to the developments in advanced control and management system applied to hybrid wind turbines (WT). The objective is to strengthen the extraction capacity of wind power in order to obtain an extended operational range "operating areas II and III." In other terms, the multi-objective optimization on hybrid WT based on sophisticate control system and robust management reliable to hybrid WTs is performed to design a perfect control system. This system requires a very complicated adaptation between the second-order sliding mode control (SOSMC)-based speed control, a novel MPPT technique modified enhanced perturb and observe "MEPO," system limitation and system energy storage. In addition, to improve the quality of the electrical energy introduced into the grid, a new efficient and robust strategy control based on direct power control-space vector modulation (DPC-SVM-SOSMC) implemented in the network side of the converter is proposed. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control system and the new switching algorithm that coordinates the control (the multi-objective optimization) are validated under entire operating range (II and III). The results have showed that, compared with the conventional control system, the proposed scheme provides higher power conversion efficiency, offers better grid power quality and has better dynamic performances as well as a very robust adaptation against the uncertainties of the parameters and external disturbances.

A 0.5 V 10-bit 3 MS/s SAR ADC With Adaptive-Reset switching Scheme and Near-Threshold Voltage-Optimized Design Technique

This brief presents a 10-bit ultra-low power energy-efficient successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). A new adaptive-reset switching scheme is proposed to reduce the switching energy of the capacitive digital-to-analog converter (CDAC). The proposed adaptive-reset switching scheme reduces the average switching energy of the CDAC by 90% compared to the conventional scheme without the common-mode voltage variation. In addition, the near-threshold voltage (NTV)-optimized digital library is adopted to alleviate the performance degradation in the ultra-low supply voltage while simultaneously increasing the energy efficiency. The NTV-optimized design technique is also introduced to the bootstrapped switch design to improve the linearity of the sample-and-hold circuit. The test chip is fabricated in a 65 nm CMOS, and its core area is 0.022 mm(2). At a supply of 0.5 V and sampling speed of 3 MS/s, the SAR ADC achieves an ENOB of 8.78 bit and consumes 3.09 mu W. The resultant Walden figure-of-merit (FoM) is 2.34 fJ/conv.-step.

Isolated high step-up switched-boost DC/DC converter with modified control method

In this study, a new isolated high-gain switched-boost DC/DC converter employing two symmetrical switched-boost networks along with a modified control algorithm based on the combination of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) and phase-shift modulation is proposed. Utilising symmetrical switched-boost networks increase the voltage gain of the proposed converter, significantly. Moreover, applying the proposed switching algorithm on the proposed isolated switched-boost DC/DC converter leads to the following advantages: (i) high-voltage gain, (ii) zero voltage switching (ZVS) turn-on of two switches, (iii) ZVS turn-off of two switches and (iv) appearing three controllable parameters (the shoot-through duty cycle, the phase shift and the transformer turns ratio) in all of the equations including the voltage gain equation, which enhances the flexibility of the converter. In this study, the steady-state analysis, design procedure of the elements, and voltage and current stress of the semiconductors are given. Then, the proposed converter and the proposed switching algorithm are compared with similar converters and modulation techniques in order to highlight their features and drawbacks. Finally, experimental results are obtained to substantiate the theoretical analysis accuracy.

The experience of development of the system for sensorless management of the process of the movement of big set ferromagnetic elements in electromechanical converters with a secondary discrete part is presented. The features of the movement of a secondary discrete part on the example of a single ferromagnetic element in traffic conditions on a circle of the working camera and through the central area are considered. The efficiency and orientation of the movement of a single ferromagnetic element was estimated by electromagnetic effort and its projections. The analysis of the electromagnetic field was carried out in a software package of FEMM 4.2. The authors propose an original algorithm of switching the inductor phases in the device providing the movements of big set of ferromagnetic elements on a trajectory of the "dead" zones of the 1st and 2nd order interfering and eliminating negative impacts.

This paper proposes a novel switching algorithm for modular multilevel converters (MMCs) that significantly reduces the switching frequency while fulfilling all control objectives required for their proper operation. Unlike in the conventional capacitor voltage-balancing strategies, in addition to submodule (SM) capacitor voltages, the proposed algorithm considers previous switching statuses during sorting. The algorithm is applied to a seven-level back-to-back MMC-HVDC system and tested under various operating conditions. Significant reduction in the switching frequency with trivial impacts on submodule capacitor voltages are observed.

Restricted versions of the cointegrated vector autoregression are usually estimated using switching algorithms. These algorithms alternate between two sets of variables but can be slow to converge. Acceleration methods are proposed that combine simplicity and effectiveness. These methods also outperform existing proposals in some applications of the expectation-maximization method and parallel factor analysis.

High-resolution positioning for maglev trains is implemented by detecting the tooth-slot structure of the long stator installed along the rail, but there are large joint gaps between long stator sections. When a positioning sensor is below a large joint gap, its positioning signal is invalidated, thus double-modular redundant positioning sensors are introduced into the system. This paper studies switching algorithms for these redundant positioning sensors. At first, adaptive prediction is applied to the sensor signals. The prediction errors are used to trigger sensor switching. In order to enhance the reliability of the switching algorithm, wavelet analysis is introduced to suppress measuring disturbances without weakening the signal characteristics reflecting the stator joint gap based on the correlation between the wavelet coefficients of adjacent scales. The time delay characteristics of the method are analyzed to guide the algorithm simplification. Finally, the effectiveness of the simplified switching algorithm is verified through experiments.

Design and implementation of two-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor fed by a matrix converter

A direct matrix converter structure and a two-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) are designed to increase the system efficiency in low-power motor drive applications. The drive system with two-phase PMSM has been proposed instead of the single-phase squirrel cage induction motor, which has low efficiency. A constant AC single-phase power supply can be directly converted to frequency and amplitude-adjustable two-phase power supply by the proposed converter structure. However, the proposed converter cannot generate the sufficient voltage level for a standard commercial motor. For this reason, a new two-phase PMSM is designed to adapt the converter output voltage amplitude with the motor-rated voltage by using Infolytica/MotorSolve software. A novel switching algorithm has been developed and analysed to show output voltage-current waveforms of the converter with their harmonic spectrum. In addition, the converter is designed compactly to be mounted to the terminal box of the designed motor. Experimental results have been obtained for speed control of the motor by using vector control at different reference speeds.
