With the increases in demand of energy, the non renewable energy sources have depleted and also there is a concern of global warming with the use of non renewable source of energy. So there arises a need to find new energy resources which are in bulk and also does not affect the environment. Solar is one of the best solution among all the renewable source of energy available today. Nowadays photovoltaic (PV) system are mostly recognized and widely used for different types of power system applications. Solar panels convert solar energy into electricity, if DC load is there it can be fed directly by panel through DC-DC converter and if alternating current (AC) load is there, which is mostly in residential and industrial applications, inverter is connected to DC-DC converter. As demand has rise maximum utilization of power is also a major concern, the power generated by solar should be fully utilized for the extra power generated is fed to grid by synchronizing solar inverter with grid. This paper presents simulation of Phase Lock Loop (PLL) with grid connected inverter using synchronous reference frame (SRF) method and close loop boost converter.

In this paper a definite transfer function of the synchronous reference frame (SRF) harmonic detection method is formulated and an optimal design of low-pass filter (LPF) algorithm is given. A cascade-form exponential mean (EM) low pass filter with high sampling rate is proposed to solve the contradiction between the detection accuracy and dynamic response. Simulation and experimental results verify its validity.

In this paper, modified three-phase hysteresis current controller is proposed, which is implemented in a synchronous reference frame. By implementing the synchronous reference frame based hysteresis controller resulting hysteresis switching frequency is constrained, which is typically increased due to a phase interaction between the basic three-phase hysteresis controllers. Consequently, a modified hysteresis current controller is proposed, with a simplified structure that does not include a switching table, typical for the conventional both stationary and synchronous reference frame based hysteresis controllers. The proposed structure is examined by means of simulation runs, for the current controller implemented in a three-phase power converter with a generalized RL load.

Zero steady state error in the line current of a single-phase grid-connected voltage source converter is usually obtained in the synchronous reference frame with different orthogonal signal generation schemes, which may lead to slow dynamic response and stability problems. This paper analyzes a simple rotating reference frame current control of the single-phase converters using the desired steady state fictitious current as the orthogonal signal. Double line frequency components are present in the current error signals, which will be completely eliminated at the steady state condition. The control loops were tuned at the bandwidth greater than such oscillating frequency, which gave the dynamic performance even better than the ideal balance two-phase system. The generated orthogonal current was mathematically proved that no potential stability problem was found. Only two multiplications and one addition were required without stored memory for the calculation of the quadrature current. Simulation and experimental results of a 1.5-kVA PWM rectifier validated the proposed control scheme.

this paper presents the reduction of unbalanced load in the three-phase system using the Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) and synchronous reference frame Theory (SRFT) as a control algorithm. The D-STATCOM is an active shunt compensator and separates with an inductor or coupling transformer. The functions of D-STATCOM are improving power quality, mitigating voltage sag/swell, and reducing the percentage of unbalanced load in the electricity distribution system. SRFT or DQ0 theory is transforming the three-phase ABC components to direct and quadrature components to simplify calculations. The transformation produces a DC signal in a steady-state condition. The inverse of the DQ0 component produces ABC components and the input signal to the Voltage Source Converter (VSC). This simulation used Simulink/MATLAB with an inductive resistive load. The result is a reducing percentage of current unbalance within 5.12% to 7.386%.

Increase in renewable power generation increases the power penetration to grid. Inverter plays a major role in power penetration. In this paper transformer-less single phase grid tie inverter based on synchronous reference frame current control is proposed to supply active power (P) to grid. This current control provides infinite control gain and zero steady state error ideally. The plant transfer function of grid tie inverter is derived from the mathematical model and a proper compensator is designed to achieve a better transient response of the system. Transformer-less inverter provides high efficiency in real power transmission and low switching loss is achieved by Modified Unipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (MUSPWM).

This work presents compensation algorithm schemes used for shunt active power filters applied to three-phase four-wire systems, allowing harmonic current suppression and reactive power compensation, which results in an effective power factor correction. The strategies used to extract the three-phase reference currents are based on the synchronous reference frame method. Although this method is based on balanced three-phase loads, it can also be used for single-phase loads, allowing independent control of all three phases. Accordingly, a fictitious quadrature current needs to be generated through software implementation, and be orthogonal to the measured load current. This creates the fictitious balanced currents in the two-phase stationary reference frame system, allowing the choice of an adequate compensation strategy which will result in either balanced or unbalanced sinusoidal source currents. Three shunt APF topologies are evaluated under unbalanced load conditions: Split-Capacitor (S-C), Four-Leg (F-L) and Three Full-Bridge (3F-B). The proposed algorithms applied to the three APF topologies are evaluated and discussed. Mathematical analyses of the SRF-based algorithms are presented and simulation results are performed to validate the theoretical development and confirm the performance of the shunt APFs.

Student psychology and social group optimizations based modified synchronous reference frame control topology for PV-DSTATCOM

This paper proposes the design of a modified synchronous reference frame (SRF) (MSRF) technique while incorporating student psychology based optimization (SPBO) and social group optimization (SGO) algorithms for solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery embedded distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) for three-phase grid-tied system. For maximum power point tracking, the SPBO is used. The proposed MSRF controller pro-vides satisfactory performance under different real-time cases. In case of sudden load variation, the dc bus voltage is slightly reduced (approximately by 7.48%). MSRF may provide system stability under different faults. Due to the use of MSRF controller, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of grid current is 1.30% and the THD value is reduced by 9.72%, 23.98%, 26.14%, 66.23%, 36.59%, 38.97%, 56.38%, 30.85%, 41.44%, 75.05%, 77%, and 95.29%, respectively, as compared to the other techniques surfaced in the recent state-of-the-art literature such as (a) IT-2 fuzzy logic control (FLC), (b) type-I FLC, (c) PI control, (d) sliding mode control (SMC), (e) fuzzy and SMC, (f) indirect current control (ICC), (g) modified ICC, (h) SRF with teaching learning based optimization and SGO combination, (i) SRF with firefly and SGO combination, (j) SRF with particle swarm optimization and SGO combination, and (k) SRF control and without DSTATCOM.

Algorithms for harmonic detection and compensation are important guarantees for an active power filter (APF) to achieve the harmonic control function and directly determine the overall performance. Existing algorithms usually need a large amount of computation, and the compensation effect of specified order harmonic is also limited. DC side capacitor voltage at sudden change of load is affected by the algorithm as well. This paper proposes a new algorithm for harmonic detection and compensation based on synchronous reference frame (SRF), in which a band-pass filter with center frequency of 6kth harmonic is designed in fundamental frequency SRF to extract random harmonic current with two different frequencies of (6k +/- 1) th harmonic in stationary reference frame. This new algorithm can rapidly detect any specified harmonic, and it can adjust the power factor to compensate reactive power. Meanwhile, it has few impacts on DC side capacitor voltage under complicated operating conditions such as sudden change of load. The correctness and effectiveness of this new algorithm are verified by simulation and experiment.

The paper discusses the problem of rotor flux magnitude estimation for the induction motor (IM) drive and presents a sliding mode (SM) observer that is constructed based on the model of the motor in the synchronous reference frame. To implement the IM control scheme, generally, the magnitude of the rotor flux is needed. If flux regulation is intended, the flux is used in the controller and this generates the d axis reference current. Also, the rotor flux is required if a synchronous current regulation with decoupling compensation is adopted - the flux magnitude is needed to compute the decoupling voltages. Generally, in an IM drive, it is typical to estimate the motor fluxes in the stationary reference frame using an observer and use them for field orientation;then, the flux magnitude can be calculated from the α,β flux components. However, some recently developed observers (that use a speed estimate as an input in the estimation process) do not exactly yield α,β fluxes with accurate magnitude (their phase is accurate though and this allows to obtain the correct field orientation angle). Therefore, in such a case, the flux magnitude needs to be obtained from another source. The paper presents a SM observer for the flux magnitude based on the synchronous reference frame model of the IM. This is developed assuming that the dq axis voltages and currents are available. A speed sensored observer is developed first. Then, this is transformed into a sensorless design by feeding the observer with a speed estimate (which is assumed inaccurate). The paper shows how to design the gains of the observer such that the flux estimation process is insensitive to the speed inaccuracy.
