The phase-locked loop (PLL) based on conventional synchronous reference frame, i.e. dqPLL, is usually employed in grid-connected variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) power generation systems (PGSs). However, the voltage amplitude drop of stand-alone PGSs is often greater than that of the grid-connected PGSs when loads are added drastically, which makes the response of dqPLL deteriorated. This paper presents an improved dqPLL (IdqPLL) for stand-alone VSCF PGSs. The simulation results verify the dynamic performance of the IdqPLL.

W ith the increases in demand of energy, the non renewable energy sources have depleted and also there is a concern of global warming with the use of non renewable source of energy. So there arises a need to find new energy resources which are in bulk and also does not affect the environment. Solar is one of the best solution among all the renewable source of energy available today. Nowadays photovoltaic (PV) system are mostly recognized and widely used for different types of power system applications. Solar panels convert solar energy into electricity, if DC load is there it can be fed directly by panel through DC-DC converter and if alternating current (AC) load is there, which is mostly in residential and industrial applications, inverter is connected to DC-DC converter. As demand has rise maximum utilization of power is also a major concern, the power generated by solar should be fully utilized for the extra power generated is fed to grid by synchronizing solar inverter with grid. This paper presents simulation of Phase Lock Loop (PLL) with grid connected inverter using synchronous reference frame (SRF) method and close loop boost converter.

Synchronization with the grid voltage is critical in the control of grid-connected converters Under unbalanced grid condition, the conventional synchronous reference frame PLL (SRF-PLL) does not work well due to the effect of the fundamental negative sequence component. This paper proposes a new synchronization method, which incorporates a sinusoidal amplitude integrator (SAI) into the conventional SRF-PLL. The proposed SAI-PLL method not only eradicates the effect of the fundamental negative sequence component, but also accurately and quickly estimates the amplitude and phase angle of the fundamental components in unbalanced and distorted conditions. Moreover, the proposed SAI-PLL successfully eliminates the influence of dc offset in the grid voltage. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed PLL method can effectively extract the synchronization signal under unbalanced and distorted conditions.

Zero steady state error in the line current of a single-phase grid-connected voltage source converter is usually obtained in the synchronous reference frame with different orthogonal signal generation schemes, which may lead to slow dynamic response and stability problems. This paper analyzes a simple rotating reference frame current control of the single-phase converters using the desired steady state fictitious current as the orthogonal signal. Double line frequency components are present in the current error signals, which will be completely eliminated at the steady state condition. The control loops were tuned at the bandwidth greater than such oscillating frequency, which gave the dynamic performance even better than the ideal balance two-phase system. The generated orthogonal current was mathematically proved that no potential stability problem was found. Only two multiplications and one addition were required without stored memory for the calculation of the quadrature current Simulation and experimental results of a 1.5-kVA PWM rectifier validated the proposed control scheme.

This paper develops selective strategies for Neutral Point Clamped Multilevel Inverter (NPC) in a microgrid application with load current decomposition based on synchronous reference frame (DQ) method. The 3-level NPC inverter is investigated as widely used topology for medium and high power applications. In addition to the current injection into the grid, the 3-level NPC DG inverter is also being used to improve the power quality at point of common coupling, mitigating load current disturbances and improving power quality. For the islanded mode of operation, the control of the DG inverter involves the regulation of the instantaneous load line-to-neutral voltage magnitude, i.e. V_a, and frequency ω. Single loop and multiloop voltage control scheme based on inductor filter current feedback are developed to regulate load voltage/frequency for a varity of load conditions. The control strategies are implemented in abc-frame. The principles supporting the selective control strategies are discussed and analyzed and the effectiveness of the control metod is demonstrated through digital simulations conducted by means of PSIM.

In this paper a 3-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF) with reduced semiconductor switches based on synchronous reference frame (SRF) is introduced. The power circuit of SAPF contains only 4 switches, forming only two legs to compensate the load currents of two phases. The third leg is replaced by a split capacitor. SRF is used to calculate the reference currents, modifications are done to control the two capacitors voltages in the DC-link. The advantages of these modifications are simplifying the control circuit, reducing the total number of sensors and reducing the total cost of SAPF. Simulation studies using MATLAB/SIMULINK to verify the operation of the SAPF with the modified control circuit. Experimental setup is implanted to confirm the SAPF operation actually.

In this paper, a modified harmonic and reactive current detection method based on synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory for three-phase four-wire shunt active power filter (SAPF) is proposed under distorted supply voltages condition. The main objective of the method is to extract the fundamental positive-sequence active currents, which can compensate the fundamental positive sequence reactive components, the unbalanced components and harmonics of the load currents. A model of three-phase four-leg SAPF with LCL-filter based on the proposed SRF method has been designed and simulated on MATLAB/simulink. Simulation results indicate that not only the current total harmonic distortion (THDi) values for each phase of the supply currents are reduced from 21.71%, 22.37% and 20.82% to 4.56%, 4.67% and 4.58%, but also the supply currents are balanced and sinusoidal after compensation.

A novel simple and effective autonomous current-sharing controller for parallel three-phase inverters is proposed in this paper. The proposed controller provides faster response and better accuracy in contrast to the conventional droop control, since this novel approach does not require any active or reactive power calculations. Instead, a synchronous-reference-frame (SRF) virtual impedance loop and an SRF-based phase-locked loop are used. Stationary analysis is provided in order to identify the inherent mechanism of the direct and quadrature output currents in relation to the voltage amplitude and frequency with different line impedances by means of the system transfer functions. Comparison experiments from two parallel inverters are presented to compare the control performance of the conventional droop control and the proposed control with different line impedances. In addition, experimental results from a setup with three parallel 2.2-kW inverters verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy in different scenarios.

In order to increase the control accuracy and achieve the unit power factor of totem-pole bridgeless PFC, and get sinusoidal current waveform, the method of synchronous reference frame is applied to the control of totem-pole bridgeless PFC in this paper. First of all, the working principle of totem pole bridgeless PFC is analyzed, and the topology of totem pole bridgeless PFC is improved. Secondly, the second-order generalized integrator is applied to solve the problem of the lack of an orthogonal degree of freedom in the synchronous reference frame of the totem-pole bridgeless PFC. Finally, the harmonic problem of DC side output voltage is analyzed, and the proposed algorithm is verified in Matlab/simulink simulations software platform.

The paper discusses the problem of rotor flux magnitude estimation for the induction motor (IM) drive and presents a state observer that is constructed using the IM model in the synchronous reference frame. Generally, for IM vector control implementation, the magnitude of the rotor flux is required. If flux regulation is intended, the flux magnitude is used in feedback in order to generate the d axis reference current. Also, if synchronous current regulation with decoupling is intended;the flux magnitude is used to compute the decoupling voltages. Generally, in an IM drive, it is typical to estimate the stationary frame fluxes using an observer and to use the tan~(-1) function to calculate the field orientation angle. Then, the flux magnitude is calculated from the estimated α,β flux components. However, some observers (that use a speed estimate instead of the measured speed) do not yield α-β fluxes with accurate magnitude. As a result, the flux magnitude would need to be obtained from another source. The paper presents a state observer for the flux magnitude based on the synchronous reference frame model of the IM. This is developed assuming that the d-q axis voltages and currents are known. A speed sensored observer is developed first. The attempt to transform it into a sensorless design by feeding it with a speed estimate (assumed inaccurate) does not yield an asymptotically stable observer. The paper also studies the estimation accuracy under improper speed and with improper field orientation angle.
