tcp-Rab： a receiver advertisement based tcp protocol

With the evolution of network technologies, the deficiencies of tcp protocol are becoming more and more distinct. The new tcp implementation, called Receiver Advertisement Based tcp (tcp-Rab) proposed here to eliminate these deficiencies, adopts two basic mechanisms: (1) Bandwidth Estimation and (2) Immediate Recovery. Bandwidth estimation is carried out at the receiver, and the result is sent back to the sender via the acknowledgments. Immediate Recovery guarantees high performance even in lossy link. Rab can distinguish the reason for packet loss, and thus adopt appropriate recovery strategy. For loss by network congestion, it will back off its congestion window, and for loss by link errors, it will recover the congestion window immediately. Simulations indicated that Rab has superiority over other tcp implementations.

In this article a new modified attack using tcp protocol is described. This attack exploits some principles of SYN attack, which has been widely used in several DoS and DDoS attacks around the world. These attacks focused on both small and huge enterprises. A new modification will be described, which significantly increases overall attack effectivity even if some protecting mechanisms are implemented. In the first part of this article IP and tcp protocols are described in order to explain their role in networks. The following part includes explanation of SYN flooding attack and some basic countermeasures in order to understand necessary details regarding this attack. In the following part a new variant is introduced including some experiments and results.

This paper aims to provide an efficient segment-based model for the Transmission Control protocol (tcp) protocol to improve the transmission mechanism by enhancing both bandwidth utilization and congestion. The study puts forward a segment-based model that encompassed three phases, namely: network environment evaluation to calculate bandwidth, which is the Round Tip Time (RTT) independence, organizing packets into groups of segments, and transmission of segments within a fraction of a millisecond delay with the predefined speed. Network evaluation is done by considering the capacity of the network and the time taken for some insignificant packets to be transmitted to the server. Packet segmentation organizes several packets into a group at predefined speed, which then will be transmitted to the destination at a fraction of a millisecond. Experimental results using the segment-based model for the tcp protocol show that the proposed solution significantly improves the transmission mechanism of tcp. Further, the results of the experiment show that bandwidth is utilized to near the same value of available bandwidth. Furthermore, the transmission time is improved compared to previous models of tcp. The proposed segment-based model allows for the tcp protocol to utilize better bandwidth and avoid congestion in a network while transmitting data. The transmission time will decrease significantly, allowing more data to be transferred, resulting in the robust reliability of the tcp protocol.

In the traditional network, tcp protocol is used to realize the reliable transmission and network congest control to release the network congestion. In the wireless network, tcp Veno is better than traditional tcp. This paper proposes an improved congest control protocol based on the tcp Veno protocol to improve the network performance by means of bandwidth prediction and dynamic window size adjust(BPDW). And through the math model and simulator experiments, it proves that the BPDW improves the throughput of network and increase the network efficiency.

Distributed PEP-based tcp performance enhancing protocol for satellite networks

Based on distributed performance enhancing proxies, a new transport protocol for the satellite environment, the XP protocol is presented. It is designed and optimized to overcome the performance degradation that tcp experiences in satellite networks due to their long latency, high bit error rate, and bandwidth asymmetry characteristics. Main contributions include a reliable two-and-half-way handshake connection establishment mechanism, rate control and a measurement-based adaptive bandwidth allocation algorithm, and a delayed acknowledgements technique based on active sender-request. Interactions with the tcp connections in terrestrial segments are also considered. Emulation and real operating environment experiments show that the throughputs achieved by XP improve substantially in comparison with the regular tcp, and the fairness is also maintained perfectively when the bandwidth is shared among multi-connections.

Saliency-based bit plane detection for network applications

Transmitting image data without losing significant information is challenging for any network application especially when large color images are transmitted through tcp communication protocol. This is due to network limitations such as buffer overflow, underflow and network traffic flow etc. This paper presents a new method for image size reduction such that the network can transmit data without much loss of information, and hence, quality. The proposed method obtains bit planes for the color input images, which results in eight binary planes. Unlike the existing bit plane based image size reduction methods, which assume that the most significant plane or some other planes contain useful information, the proposed method finds the plane that contains dominant information automatically. For each plane, the proposed method explores the saliency that finds dominant information based on Markov Chain Process and similarity estimation between neighbor pixels. To reduce computational burden, we use Canny edge maps of the saliency of the planes for feature extraction. We propose to explore ring-growing concept for the edge maps to study the spatial distribution of saliency, locally. The proposed method detects the plane based on statistics of saliency distribution. To validate the step of plane detection, we estimate transmission error caused during data transmission through tcp communication protocol for the images at sending and receiving ends. Experimental results on plane detection show that the proposed method is better than the existing methods in terms of detection rate. Our experiments on image transmission through tcp communication protocol show that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods in terms of error estimation and quality analysis. Furthermore, experiments are conducted to analyze packet loss in terms of number of duplicate acknowledgements and retransmission during packets transmission for the color, edge and plane to show that transmitting pla

Anomaly detection has been an active open problem in the networks community for several years. In this brief, we aim at detecting such abnormal signals by control theory techniques. Several classes of sliding mode observers are proposed for a fluid flow model of the transmission control protocol (tcp)/internet protocol network. Comparative simulations via network simulator NS-2 show the enhancement brought by a higher order sliding mode observer. The efficiency of this observer opens the way toward observing traffics with real tcp flow characteristics. To achieve this end, trace replay techniques for tcp traffic traces are presented. Finally, experiments lead to successful anomaly estimation under real traffic conditions.

Retransmission-Based tcp Fingerprints for Fine-Grain IoV Edge Device Identification

Due to the deployment of 5G technology, the number of IoV (Internet of Vehicle) devices connected to the Internet will explosively grow. However, as a kind of edge network device, IoV devices also face some problems including weak password authentication, lack of security protection, and lagged firmware updating, which largely threaten the security and legitimacy of these devices. IoV device identification is important in discovering, monitoring, and protecting these devices. Although existing proactive identification methods based on device fingerprints can be used to identify the large-scale Internet-connected IoV devices, they can notmeet the fine-grained requirements for security risk assessment. Due to the increase in the types and brands of IoV devices, the fingerprint granularity will be insufficient. In this paper, we proposed a retransmission-based tcp fingerprints for large-scale finegrained proactive device identification. Firstly, a probing scheme was designed to obtain tcp retransmission packet and increase the granularity space of traditional tcp fingerprint by selecting the multi-group features of tcp retransmission messages. Then, according to the bagging strategy of ensemble learning, a combined classifier with five predominant machine learning algorithms was generated. The experimental results showed that the identification accuracy and recall of IoV devices respectively reached 96.7% and 95.2%.
