With the rapid development of license plate recognition technology, the technology has been widely used in vehicle management, highway toll system and highway automatic supervision system. And the license plate recognition algorithm based on image processing is most widely used in the license plate recognition technology. But in the existing license plate recognition algorithm, the recognition rate is low and the recognition speed is slow and so on problems. In this paper, it mainly uses the basic knowledge of image processing, improves the traditional template matching algorithm. And the improved template matching algorithm is combined with support vector machine algorithm, through the combination of the two algorithms to improve the rate of character recognition.

In this paper, we have taken Electro-Larynx (EL) speech and have improved the speech quality, electro-larynx speech was improved in terms of naturalness and intelligibility by introducing variations in the F0-contour and templatematching with correlation coefficient. Initially, we introduced two different speech signals, the first speech signal introduced was healthy speech signal and the second speech signal introduced was disordered speech signal. Here, the second speech signal, the disordered speech is taken as the EL speech. The fundamental frequency or pitch was extracted first from the two inputed speech signals, then the contour of each fundamental frequency was extracted from the two input speech signals. Using these extracted features of fundamental frequency the gender classification by K-means algorithm was instigated. The same process was implemented with F0 contour features which was extracted using K-NN algorithm. EL speech contains directly radiated electrolarynx noise (DREL). The noise was filtered out using spectral subtraction algorithm. Once DREL noise is removed from EL speech, the quality of the speech was greatly improved. Then EL enhanced speech signal is compared and mapped with healthy speech signal using template matching algorithm with the help of correlation coefficient, this improves the overall quality, that is the naturalness and intelligibity of the introduced disordered speech signal. This technique helps solve the major problem of speech faced by differently abled persons with larynx disorder.

A feature-based modulation recognition algorithm is proposed, to identify practical multilevel amplitude phase shift keying (MAPSK) signals using templatematching, which suffers from various unknown effects, including carrier frequency, time delay and phase shift. The probability distribution functions (PDFs) of the amplitudes for each modulation constellation are estimated from the corresponding analytic signal of a received intermediate frequency signal. Then, a template matching algorithm based on Kullback-Leibler divergence is used to evaluate the similarity between the PDF of the amplitude for a received signal and the PDF templates, which has been stored in advance. The simulation results show that the proposed modulation recognition algorithm performs robustly and precisely even in an extremely low signal-to-noise ratio. The performance of the proposed algorithm is not very sensitive to the number of used symbols or timing error, which means that the performance will not be seriously degraded with a less number of symbols or with a larger timing error for symbol synchronisation.

This paper investigates the influence of psychological stress due to driving in city traffic condition on beat-to-beat QT interval. Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal of 16 subjects were analyzed from Physionet "drivedb" database. Total 32 segments of ECG signal was selected from all subjects. 16 of which were recorded during "Stressed" condition and rest 16 were in "Unstressed" states. Each segment was 5 minutes long and QT intervals were extracted using Berger's template matching algorithm. Heart rate corrected QT (QTc) intervals was calculated using methods proposed by Bazett, Fridericia and Framingham. The mean and standard deviation of each QTc interval time series was calculated as a feature describing average length and variability of QTc interval. The results showed that the mean QTc was lower in "Stressed" condition than "Unstressed", however none of the differences were statistically significant. In contrast, the variability of QTc intervals were higher in "Stressed" segments than the "Unstressed" ones and the difference was statistically significant. However, such difference was not present in RR intervals. In summary, QT was not prolonged due to stress but beat-to-beat QT variability increased in "Stressed" condition and this can be an effective marker to detect psychological stress.

In this paper, a high-accuracy calibration method for angular measurement of deformed and curved Moire patterns, based on template matching algorithm, is presented. We report a feasible and accurate method, based on Talbot interferometry and Moire deflectometry, to measure long focal-length lenses. Theoretical analysis indicates that the precision of this method is mainly influenced by the angle of Moire patterns. However, it's difficult to obtain high-accuracy angle of Moire patterns, since the Moire patterns derived from experiment are constantly deformed or curved. We demonstrate a method, based on template matching algorithm, to calibrate deformed and curved Moire patterns, thus their angle can be calculated fast and accurately in sub-pixel domain. Numerical analysis and simulation prove that the method mentioned above demonstrates high precision and stability, and experiment results show that the accuracy of the long focal lengths measurement is improved obviously.

This paper aims to recognize ID numbers from three types of valid identification documents in China: the first-generation ID card, the second-generation ID card and the driver license of motor vehicle. We have proposed an approach using local similarity voting to automatically recognize ID numbers. Firstly, we extract the candidate region which contains ID numbers and then locate the numbers and characters. Secondly, we recognize the numbers by an improved templatematching method based on the local similarity voting. Finally, we verify the ID numbers and characters. We have applied the proposed approach to a set of 100 images which are shot by conventional digital cameras. The experimental results have demonstrated that this approach is efficient and is robust to the change of illumination and rotation. The recognition accuracy is up to 92%.
