Due to China's west to east power transmission depth implementation, the long distance and large capacity power transmission solution is widely used. But the two technologies, the series capacitor compensation technology and the high voltage direct current transmission technology, which are used as the solution, will both generate sub-synchronization oscillation issues. In recent years, many power plants in China take sub-synchronous oscillation phenomenon;therefore, the research has significant engineering application value and practical significance to the suppression technology and online prediction of sub-synchronization oscillation. In this paper, by means of time domain simulation method and complex torque coefficient method and the test signal method, the three method are more comprehensive and accurate measurement the existing condition and prediction risk coefficient of the adjacent condition, timely find and take measures to eliminate power system sub-sychronization oscillation, providing technical analysis tools to ensure safe and stable operation of power system.

Based on traditional Prony algorithm(TPA) and segmentation PA(SPA), a modified SPA(MSPA) is proposed in this paper. By dividing the whole observation window into several segments according to certain rules and then utilizing data in all of the segments, the overall sample function matrix is constructed and the average error effect of the whole observation window is taken into account. Meanwhile, a new approach to extracting oscillation modes is presented by means of Kaiser window FFT analysis and a concept of energy class. The MSPA and time domain simulation method are integrated and used in analysis of subsynchronous oscillation(SSO). Their results can be confirmed and complemented by each other. simulation results show that the MSPA not only enhances SPA's computational efficiency and credibility, but also avoids the lost of oscillation modes existing in modified PA(MPA) which uses singular value decomposition to determine the rank of Prony model.

This paper presents transient stability assessment of electrical power system using least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) and principle component analysis. Transient stability of a power system is first determined based on the generator relative rotor angles obtained from timedomainsimulation outputs. simulations were carried out on the IEEE 9-bus test system considering three phase faults on the system. The data collected from the timedomainsimulations are then used as inputs to the LS-SVM in which LS-SVM is used as a classifier to determine the stability state of a power system. Principle component analysis is applied to extract useful input features to the LS-SVM so that training time of the LS-SVM can be reduced. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed LS-SVM method, its performance is compared with the multi layer perceptron neural network. Results show that the LS-SVM gives faster and more accurate transient stability assessment compared to the multi layer perceptron neural network in terms of classification results.
